Background: High-temperature requirement serine protease A 2 (HtrA2) is known to be involved in growth, unfolded protein response to stress, apoptosis, and autophagy. However, whether HtrA2 controls inflammation and immune response remains elusive.
Methods: Expression of HtrA2 in the synovial tissue of patients was examined using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining.

Aims: Steatosis reducing effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has been consistently reported in humans, but their mechanism remains uncertain. In this study, we examined the expression of SGLT2 in human livers and investigated the crosstalk between SGLT2 inhibition and hepatic glucose uptake, intracellular O-GlcNAcylation, and autophagic regulation in NASH.
Materials And Methods: Human liver samples obtained from subjects with/without NASH were analyzed.

Background: Enterotoxigenic (ETEC) is a major cause of diarrhea through two enterotoxins, a heat-labile toxin and a heat-stable toxin. These toxins alter the cellular signaling pathways, ultimately triggering an increase in chloride secretion and watery diarrhea.
Objective: For the development of an ETEC vaccine, we attempted to construct a peptide-specific monoclonal antibody library against heat-labile enterotoxin A subunit (LT-A) by epitope mapping using synthetic peptides.

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is caused by X-linked recessive disorderliness. It induces severe anemia when a patient with G6PD deficiency is exposed to oxidative stress that occurs with administration of an antimalarial drug, primaquine. The distribution of G6PD deficiency remains unknown while primaquine has been used for malaria treatment in Myanmar.

Background: Immune-evading severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants are emerging continuously. The clinical effectiveness of monoclonal antibody agents that exhibit decreased activity against SARS-CoV-2 variants needs to be elucidated.
Methods: A nationwide, multicenter, retrospective cohort study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of regdanvimab, an anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibody agent.

A control group is defined as a group of people used for comparison. Depending on the type of study, it can be a group of healthy people or a group not exposed to risk factors. It is important to allow researchers to select the appropriate control participants.

Currently, there are three major assaying methods used to validate in vitro whitening activity from natural products: methods using mushroom tyrosinase, human tyrosinase, and dopachrome tautomerase (or tyrosinase-related protein-2, TRP-2). Whitening agent development consists of two ways, melanin synthesis inhibition in melanocytes and downregulation of melanocyte stimulation. For melanin levels, the melanocyte cell line has been used to examine melanin synthesis with the expression levels of TRP-1 and TRP-2.

Platelet-derived growth factor type BB (PDGF-BB) regulates vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) migration and proliferation, which play critical roles in the development of vascular conditions. p90 ribosomal S6 kinase (p90RSK) can regulate various cellular processes through many different target substrates in several cell types, but the regulatory function of p90RSK on PDGF-BB-mediated cell migration and proliferation and subsequent vascular neointima formation has not yet been extensively examined. In this study, we investigated whether p90RSK inhibition protects VSMCs against PDGF-BB-induced cellular phenotypic changes and the molecular mechanisms underlying the effect of p90RSK inhibition on neointimal hyperplasia in vivo.

Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (PfEMP1), encoded by the polymorphic var multigene family, is a highly polymorphic antigen that plays a crucial role in the pathology of malaria. The contribution of the genetic diversity of var toward the immune escape of P. falciparum has not yet been fully elucidated.

Patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza A virus (FLUAV) coinfections were associated with severe respiratory failure and more deaths. Here, we developed a model for studying SARS-CoV-2 and FLUAV coinfection using human pluripotent stem cell-induced alveolar type II organoids (hiAT2). hiAT2 organoids were susceptible to infection by both viruses and had features of severe lung damage.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of dysmenorrhea and to investigate the effect of weight changes or unhealthy weight control behaviors on dysmenorrhea in young Korean women.
Methods: We used large-scale data of women, aged 14 to 44 years, who participated in the Korean Study of Women's Health-Related Issues. Dysmenorrhea was measured using a visual analog scale and was categorized as none, mild, moderate, and severe according to the severity.

Cultured human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) grow as colonies that require breakdown into small clumps for further propagation. Although cell death mechanism by single-cell dissociation of hPSCs has been well defined, how hPSCs respond to the deadly stimulus and recover the original status remains unclear. Here we show that dissociation of hPSCs immediately activates ERK, which subsequently activates RSK and induces DUSP6, an ERK-specific phosphatase.

The beginning of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection treatment depends on various factors, which are significantly correlated with the initial CD4 cell number. However, a covariate correlation between these factors may not reflect the correct outcome variable. Thus, we evaluated the effects of a combination of fixed factors (reduced dimensions), which determine when to start treatment for the first time, on short-term outcome, long-term outcome, and survival, considering correlations between factors.
