Primary mediastinal non-seminomatous germ cell tumors (PMNSGCT) are rare but life-threatening thoracic cancers. We report our experience from eight patients with peri-treatment adverse events. By analyzing changes in tumor extent, serum tumor markers, and pathologies between diagnosis and transfer, those events could be attributed to postbiopsy respiratory insufficiency, growing teratoma syndrome, secondary histiocytic malignancy, and PMNSGCT progression.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a B-cell lymphoma featuring an aggressive course and a progressive relapsing pattern. International guidelines recommend early consolidative autologous stem cell transplant (auto-SCT) for eligible patients while reserving allogeneic SCT (allo-SCT) as therapy for refractory cases. Since data describing the implementation of transplants in the Asian population with MCL are limited, we aimed to analyze post-SCT outcomes of 99 MCL patients from the Taiwan Bone Marrow Transplant Registry database.

Background: Trastuzumab emtansine is the current standard treatment for patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive metastatic breast cancer whose disease progresses after treatment with a combination of anti-HER2 antibodies and a taxane.
Methods: We conducted a phase 3, multicenter, open-label, randomized trial to compare the efficacy and safety of trastuzumab deruxtecan (a HER2 antibody-drug conjugate) with those of trastuzumab emtansine in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer previously treated with trastuzumab and a taxane. The primary end point was progression-free survival (as determined by blinded independent central review); secondary end points included overall survival, objective response, and safety.

Purpose: A clinical-genomic prognostic multigene panel (RI-DR assay, RecurIndex), predicting the risk level of distant recurrence (DR) in early-stage breast cancer (EBC) patients with an Asian background, has been validated as a valuable tool for identifying high-risk patients to develop distant recurrence (metastasis). Although the clinical benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy from the assay's prediction is already proved, its affordability remains uncertain. This study is the first time in which the long-term cost-effectiveness of the RI-DR assay is evaluated.

Background: This study aims to rigorously compare the effectiveness of the educational programs of a new integrated clinical clerkship in medicine (3 months) and surgery (3 months) at a cancer center with the conventional subspecialty-based rotations at a tertiary teaching hospital, by this prospective, pre-post comparative method.
Methods: Between 2013-2016, we compared 69 students who had selected the integrated clerkship that emphasized clinical competency and medical humanities training with 138 matched peers who had completed conventional clerkships during the same period. Outcome measures for medical humanities included empathy, patient-centeredness, and other values and skills related to holistic health care professionalism by introducing prospective propensity score matching (PSM).

Introduction: Evidence from previous studies and treatment guidelines suggested that breast-conserving therapy (BCT) is the treatment of choice for early-stage breast cancer. However, in the last decades, surgeons have noticed a high percentage of mastectomies done in this population. The aim of this study is to explore the factors associated with not choosing BCT among eligible patients with early-stage breast cancer.

As most erb-b2 receptor tyrosine kinase 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer (BC) patients currently receive dual HER2-targeting added to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, improved methods for identifying individual response, and assisting postsurgical salvage therapy, are needed. Herein, we evaluated the 41-gene classifier trastuzumab advantage risk model (TRAR) as a predictive marker for patients enrolled in the NeoSphere trial. TRAR scores were computed from RNA of 350 pre- and 166 post-treatment tumor specimens.
