Trauma in elderly patients evaluated in a hospital emergency department in Konya, Turkey: a retrospective study.

Purpose: Trauma is a common cause of admission to the hospital emergency department. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cause of admission, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of patients aged ≥65 years admitted to an emergency department in Turkey because of blunt trauma.

Materials And Methods: Medical records were retrospectively reviewed for 568 patients (314 women and 254 men) aged ≥65 years who were admitted to an emergency department of a tertiary care hospital.

Comparing the effectiveness of intranasal desmopressin and doxazosin in men with nocturia: a pilot randomized clinical trial.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the effectiveness of intranasal desmopressin and doxazosin treatments in patients with nocturia and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Material And Methods: Thirty one men with BPH and three or more episodes of nocturia were randomized to receive 2 mg doxazosin at night for two weeks increasing to 4 mg for a further two weeks versus 20 μg intranasal desmopressin at night. For all patients, number of nocturia, urinary flow rate, residual urine volume and quality of life score were checked.

Sleep quality in lung cancer patients.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine factors affecting sleep quality of 100 patients with advanced stage lung cancer.

Methods And Results: it was a descriptive study. A variety of assessment tools were used to provide sleep scores to examine the relation between adverse effects caused by the treatment (nausea, vomiting, fatigue) and sleep quality.

The importance of prostate volume in prostate needle biopsy.

Objective: Although ultrasound-guided prostate needle biopsy is the gold standard method in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, biopsy schemes and the number of repeated biopsies are still controversial today. It is known that the rate of prostate cancer decreases with increasing prostate volume. In this study, we evaluated the effects of prostate volume on cancer detection in our patient series.

The effects of selenium and vitamin E on lung tissue in rats with sepsis.

Purpose: In this study we examined the ability of selenium and vitamin E to prevent sepsis-induced changes in lung tissue.

Methods: Fifty rats were divided into five groups: Group 1: Control group; Group 2: Sepsis group. In this group only cecal ligation and perforation (CLP) was performed.
