Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how different irrigation techniques affect the amount of debris expelled from curved root canals in extracted mandibular molars.
  • It tested four methods: passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), EDDY, photon-initiated photoacoustic streaming (PIPS), and manual irrigation (MI), using 60 teeth and measuring debris weight before and after irrigation.
  • Results showed that EDDY caused significantly more debris extrusion than the other methods, while PUI produced less, with no significant differences among PUI, PIPS, and MI.

Article Synopsis
  • Several markers of systemic inflammation, such as C-reactive protein (CRP), platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), have been identified as important indicators for prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • The study examined how these markers relate to key tumour characteristics like maximum tumour diameter, multifocality, portal vein thrombosis, and alpha-fetoprotein levels through statistical analysis.
  • Results indicated that CRP and PLR showed significant relationships with various tumour parameters, suggesting that the prognostic value of CRP and PLR may indicate tumour growth and invasiveness, while NLR did not show such significance.

The hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumor marker alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is only elevated in about half of the HCC patients, limiting its usefulness in following the effects of therapy or screening. New markers are needed. It has been previously noted that the inflammation markers C-reactive protein (CRP) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are prognostically important and may reflect HCC aggressiveness.
