The impact of surgery with general anesthesia on cognitive function and putamen volume: a cross-sectional study among older adults.

Background: Previous studies have shown that surgery under general anesthesia may diminish cognitive function; however, the proposed mechanisms need further elucidation. The purpose of the current study was twofold: (1) to compare overall and domain-specific differences in cognitive function between the surgery under general anesthesia group and the control group, and (2) to investigate the possible mechanisms of surgery under general anesthesia affecting cognitive function, using T1-structural magnetic resonance imaging.

Methods: A total of 194 older adults were included in this study.

Endocrine factors, particularly sex hormones and their binding proteins, play a critical role in AD pathophysiology. Understanding the relationship between these factors and AD is essential for developing targeted interventions.

Clinical Value of Urinary Wilms' Tumour-1 and Mu-Glutathione S-Transferase Gene Expression in Kidney Injury in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of urinary Wilms' tumour-1 (WT-1) and mu-glutathione S-transferase (Mu-GST) gene expression for detecting kidney injury in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: Patients treated between October 2022 and June 2023 were divided into two groups: a diabetic nephropathy (DN) group (105 patients) and a diabetes mellitus (DM) group (100 patients). Additionally, 100 healthy individuals undergoing routine medical check-ups were selected as the control group.

Role of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in development of cancer-associated venous thromboembolism in lung cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy.

Background: The role of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF), especially the long-acting factor in the development of cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) in lung cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy has been understudied, although the use of rhG-CSF has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of VTE.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 1,673 lung cancer patients who underwent hospitalized chemotherapy. We performed propensity score matching to offset confounding factors related to cancer-associated VTE development and classified the patients into short-acting (N = 273), long-acting (N = 273), and no rhG-CSF (N = 273) groups.

Long Non-Coding RNA FLG-AS1 Inhibits Cervical Cancer Progression through Negatively Modulating miR-147b.

Objective: The study investigated the association between FLG-AS1 and cervical cancer prognosis and the interaction mechanism between FLG-AS1 and miR-147b in order to identify potential therapeutic targets for cervical cancer.

Methods: In this study, tissue samples and clinicopathological characteristics were obtained from 125 cervical cancer patients. FLG-AS1 expression levels in the samples were detected by polymerase chain reaction assay.

The predictive efficiency of INR for VTE recurrence and bleeding were analyzed in a retrospective cohort with VTE patients who underwent DOACs treatment.

Correlation analysis of serum miR-145 and miR-210 with carotid artery stenosis and their predictive value for cerebral ischemic events.

Objective: To analyze the significance of serum miR-145 and miR-210 expression levels in the diagnosis of carotid artery stenosis.

Methods: During the same period, 55 healthy individuals who received physical examination in the same hospital were recruited as controls and assigned to a non-stenosis group. Among the included patients, there were 45 cases of mild stenosis, 14 cases of moderate stenosis, and 6 cases of severe stenosis after carotid color Doppler ultrasonography.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a highly aggressive form of bone cancer that predominantly affects adolescents and young adults. In this study, we have undertaken an investigation into the potential anti-OS cell activity of IMT1 (inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription 1), a first-in-class inhibitor of RNA polymerase mitochondrial (POLRMT). IMT1 exhibited a profound inhibitory effect on cell survival, proliferation, cell cycle progression, and migration in primary and immortalized OS cells.

The current data was obtained from the China Longitudinal Aging Study (cohort 1) and Shanghai Brain Aging study (cohort 2).

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are produced by glycosylation or oxidation of proteins and lipids and are tightly involved in the chronic kidney disease (CKD) process. Calpain 6 (CAPN6) is a non-classical calpain that has been reported to be overexpressed in CKD. This study aimed to explore the effects of AGEs in CKD progress and their correlation with CAPN6.
