Schizophrenia (SZ) is a complex, chronic mental disorder characterized by positive symptoms (such as delusions and hallucinations), negative symptoms (including anhedonia, alogia, avolition, and social withdrawal), and cognitive deficits (affecting attention, processing speed, verbal and visuospatial learning, problem-solving, working memory, and mental flexibility). Extensive animal and clinical studies have emphasized the NMDAR hypofunction hypothesis of SZ. Glycine plays a crucial role as an agonist of NMDAR, enhancing the receptor's affinity for glutamate and supporting normal synaptic function and plasticity, that is, signal transmission between neurons.

Background: Globally, diarrhoeagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) has been implicated in the spread of waterborne diseases and abattoir wastewater has played a role in its dissemination into watersheds. This study isolated and characterised DEC from the abattoir wastewater-impacted Iyi-Etu River and other water sources at the Amansea livestock market settlement.
Methods: A total of 96 water samples comprising river water (upstream, downstream 1, downstream 2), borehole, well, sachet and abattoir wastewater samples were tested for DEC.

This study investigated how human dissection affects students' spiritual beliefs, and how their existing spiritual beliefs influence their perceptions of human dissection. This cross-sectional study assessed 760 medical students with human dissection experience using an online questionnaire developed from interviews and the Spirituality Orientation Inventory, including questions on dissection experience, spirituality, spiritual perceptions about dissection, and the impact of dissection on spirituality. Descriptive analysis and Chi-squared tests were used to determine proportions and relationships between variables, with statistical significance at p < 0.

Background: The global rise in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in children and adolescents is partly linked to the increasing rates of childhood obesity and physical inactivity.
Aim: To explore the independent relationships of visceral adiposity index (VAI) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) with fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in adolescents.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study included 403 adolescents (202 boys and 201 girls) aged 11-19 years.

The bound-state solution of the radial Klein-Gordon equation has been obtained under the interaction of an exponential-type and Yukawa potential functions. The Greene-Aldrich approximation has been used to overcome the centrifugal barrier and enable the analytical solutions of the energy and wave functions in closed form. The momentum space wave function in D dimensions has been constructed using the Fourier transform.

The demand for sustainable development goals and the absence of systematic development and organised exploration for gold has prompted this study to integrate magnetic and radiometric datasets with lithology to evaluate the gold mineralisation potential in the Ilesha schist belt. This study considers 3168.72 km of the Ilesha schist belt in southwestern Nigeria, a frontier belt for gold deposits.

Background: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a significant global public health concern in Malaysia. It is a potentially life-threatening liver disease caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV), which can lead to long-term complications such as cirrhosis, liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma. In managing CHB, nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) have become the preferred treatment due to their ability to suppress viral replication and prevent disease progression.

The study focused on the extraction of free erythromycin from commercially manufactured tablets and the use of metal salts to synthesize erythromycin-metal complexes, specifically involving silver (Ag), nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), and copper (Cu). The synthesis was confirmed through various methods, including elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), and UV-visible spectroscopy. The microbiological investigation involved and as test organisms.

Noroviruses constitute a significant aetiology of sporadic and epidemic gastroenteritis in human hosts worldwide, especially among young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised patients. The low infectious dose of the virus, protracted shedding in faeces, and the ability to persist in the environment promote viral transmission in different socioeconomic settings. Considering the substantial disease burden across healthcare and community settings and the difficulty in controlling the disease, we review aspects related to current knowledge about norovirus biology, mechanisms driving the evolutionary trends, epidemiology and molecular diversity, pathogenic mechanism, and immunity to viral infection.

Soil contamination due to industrial activity in ceramics production is of concern because of the risk of heavy metal pollution. Successive extraction was used to measure and identify the concentrations of Cd, Mn, Ni, and Pb in farming soils near a ceramics company in Nigeria. Furthermore, soil pH and particle size analyses were determined.

The approximate solutions of the Dirac equation for spin symmetry and pseudospin symmetry are studied with a coshine Yukawa potential model via the traditional supersymmetric approach (SUSY). To remove the degeneracies in both the spin and pseudospin symmetries, a coshine Yukawa tensor potential is proposed and applied to both the spin symmetry and the pseudospin symmetry. The proposed coshine tensor potential removes the energy degenerate doublets in both the spin symmetry and pseudospin symmetry for a very small value of the tensor strength (H = 0.

Selenosalicylic acid (-HSeCHCOH), the heavy element congener of the widely studied thiosalicylic acid, was prepared by reaction of 2-carboxybenzenediazonium chloride (HOCCHNCl) with NaSe, followed by reduction of the resulting diselenide (SeCHCOH) with zinc and acetic acid. The coordination chemistry of the selenosalicylate ligand towards a variety of platinum(ii), palladium(ii), nickel(ii), gold(iii), gold(i), rhodium(iii), iridium(iii) and ruthenium(ii) centres was explored. X-ray crystal structure determinations were carried out on the complexes [Pt(SeCHCO)(PPh)], [{(-cym)Ru(SeCHCO)}] (-cym = η--cymene, CHCHCH(CH)), [{Cp*Rh(SeCHCO)}] (Cp* = η-CMe) and [Cp*Ir(SeCHCO)(PPh)], and comparisons are made with corresponding thiosalicylate complexes.

Context: In this paper, the approximate analytical energy equations for the deformed hyperbolic potential have been obtained for arbitrary parameters of the potential. The potential function was transformed to a molecular potential by subjecting it to the Varshni conditions which allows for the determination of the energy levels of diatomic molecules. The molecular vibrational energy spectra for [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] diatomic molecules were obtained and found to match with the results obtained with another analytical approach, potential functions, and experimental data.

In this study, a diatomic molecule interacting potential such as the deformed Schiöberg oscillator (DSO) have been applied to diatomic systems. By solving the Schrödinger equation with the DSO, analytical equations for energy eigenvalues, molar entropy, molar enthalpy, molar Gibbs free energy and constant pressure molar heat capacity are obtained. The obtained equations were used to analyze the physical properties of diatomic molecules.
