The incorporation of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycle 1,2,5-oxadiazinane into small molecules represents a compelling avenue in drug discovery due to its unexplored behavior within biological systems and incomplete protocols for synthesis. In this study, we present 1,2,5-oxadiazinane, an innovative heterocyclic bioisostere of piperizin-2-one and novel chemotype of the -schistosomal drug praziquantel (PZQ), which has been the only clinical drug available for three decades. PZQ is associated with significant drawbacks, including poor solubility, a bitter taste, and low metabolic stability.

All-solid-state Na polymer batteries are desired as the next generation of high-capacity batteries owing to their high safety and abundant resources. However, the degradation of the positive electrode/electrolyte interface with cycling leads to a decrease in capacity and a significant increase in interfacial resistance. In this study, to suppress the interfacial degradation, we prepared positive electrode sheets through a combination of simple mixing and pasting with the addition of binders and conductive additives, using NaCoO coated with two types of inorganic oxides as the active material.

Microphone array based on tangent line method.

J Acoust Soc Am

January 2024

Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Kogakuin University 2665-1 Nakano-machi, Hachioji-shi, Tokyo 192-0015, Japan.

The tangent line method (TLM) was originally proposed for loudspeaker arrays to generate curvilinear acoustic beams. In this study, the TLM was applied to a microphone array. Based on reciprocity, the TLM-based microphone array can be used to form curvilinear beams.

Sound delivery to listening point using tangent line method.

JASA Express Lett

September 2023

Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Kogakuin University 2665-1 Nakano-machi, Hachioji-shi, Tokyo 192-0015,

In personal audio systems, sounds should propagate toward the listening point and attenuate beyond the listening point. This study deals with controlling directivity and distance attenuation using loudspeaker arrays. The array signal processing is based on tangent line method (TLM), which can generate acoustic beams following arbitrary convex trajectories.

To precisely evaluate the electrochemical properties of a battery of active material, we proposed a "concentration shift experiment" using single-particle electrochemical measurement (SPEM) and a diluted electrode sheet (DES). SPEM can be used for information, such as the charge-discharge and resistance properties of only the active material (extremely dilute condition: ≈0). DES consists of concentrations varying from 1% to 100% of the active material (LiCoO) and inactive material (α-AlO), electrically conductive additive and binder polymer onto an Al current collector.

Biomass discharged from primary industries can be converted into methane by fermentation. This methane is used for generating electricity with solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). This methane fermentation provides HS, which reduces the efficiency of SOFCs even at a level as low as a few parts per million.

Although changing the size of metal nanoparticles (NPs) is a reasonable way to tune and/or enhance their catalytic activity, size-selective preparation of NPs possessing random-alloy morphology has been challenging because of the differences in the ionization potential of each metal ion. This study demonstrates a time-controlled aggregation-stabilization method for the size-selective preparation of random alloy NPs composed of Au and Pd, which are stabilized by poly(-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP). By adjusting the mixing time in the presence of a small amount of PVP, aggregation was induced to produce AuPd:PVP with sizes ranging between 1.

The effect of the addition of alcohol to a NaPO-based electrolyte on plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of AZ31B magnesium alloy was investigated. Anodization with spark discharge was conducted in NaPO-based electrolyte containing various alcohols (, ethanol, ethylene glycol, and glycerol) at a constant current density of 200 A m and a constant temperature of 25 °C. Voltage-time curves during the PEO process, the film structure, surface roughness, crystallographic structure, composition, corrosion resistance, and withstand voltage were investigated using various analytical equipment and electrochemical measurements.

High ionic carrier mobilities are important for the electrolyte solutions used in high-performance batteries. Based on the functional sharing concept, we fabricated mixed electrolytes consisting of solvate ionic liquids (SIL), which are highly concentrated solution electrolyte, and the non-coordinating low-viscosity dilution solvent 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether (HFE). We investigated the thermal, transport, and static properties of electrolytes with different ratios of SIL to HFE.

Article Synopsis
  • The study presents a new asymmetric photodimerization reaction using coumarin derivatives with a specific auxiliary, resulting in mainly head-to-tail dimers.
  • The reaction showed a moderate level of diastereoselectivity, achieving a ratio of 75 : 25 for the products.
  • The proposed mechanism for this selectivity involves density functional theory (DFT) calculations, suggesting that the benzyl group of the auxiliary, paired with a Lewis acid, influences the reaction site's shielding and selectivity.
