Purpose: To identify long-term changes in individual retinal layer thickness using automated retinal layer segmentation analysis on high-resolution spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) scans of eyes with macula-off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) treated with vitreoretinal surgery (VRS) and gas or silicone oil tamponade and having single-operation success.

Methods: A total of 58 patients operated on by VRS for RRD and followed up for 12 months were imaged by SD-OCT. The patients with retinal diseases such as an epiretinal membrane or cystic macular edema in the operated and fellow eyes were excluded.

Purpose: To analyze long-term changes in individual retinal layers (RLs) after intravitreal injections of ranibizumab (IVRs) in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (n-AMD).

Methods: The patients were treated with 0.5-mg IVRs based on an as-needed protocol after the first three monthly doses over a 12-month follow-up period.

PurposeTo evaluate surgical intervention with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for correction of optic disc pit maculopathy (ODP-M).Patients and methodsRetrospective chart review from 13 centres of 51 eyes of 50 patients with ODP-M who underwent PPV between 2002-2014. Anatomic and final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) outcomes were evaluated for all cases with different adjuvant techniques.

Objective: Breast arterial calcification (BAC), medial calcific sclerosis of small to medium-sized muscular arteries, is a benign finding of mammographic evaluation. Previous studies have shown the relationships between BAC and systemic disorders such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The aim of this study was to determine the association between reduced bone mineral density and BAC.

This article is an eventual consensus of experts from the European Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Study Group (EURO-MUSCULUS) and the Ultrasound Study Group in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (USPRM) pertaining to the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound in physical and rehabilitation medicine. Nineteen important reasons (as regards general advantages, specific conditions in physical and rehabilitation medicine, as well as comparisons with other imaging tools) have been highlighted to consolidate the scenario of how/why the probe of ultrasound needs to become the stethoscope, the extended hand, and the pen of physiatrists.

Background And Objectives: Measurement of the femoral cartilage thickness by using in-vivo musculoskeletal ultrasonography (MSUS) has been previously shown to be a valid and reliable method in previous studies; however, to our best notice, normative data has not been provided before in the healthy population. The aim of our study was to provide normative data regarding femoral cartilage thicknesses of healthy individuals with collaborative use of MSUS.

Methods: This is across-sectional study run at Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Departments of 18 Secondary and Tertiary Centers in Turkey.

Purpose: To evaluate the results of surgical treatment of maculopathy secondary to congenital optic pit anomaly with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), endolaser to the temporal edge of the optic disc and C3F8 tamponade without internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling.

Patients And Methods: Thirteen eyes of 12 patients with serous macular detachment and/or macular retinoschisis secondary to congenital optic disc pit (ODP) were included in the study. All eyes underwent PPV, posterior hyaloid removal, endolaser photocoagulation on the temporal margin of the optic disc and 12% C3F8 gas tamponade.

Phospholipids located in the cellular membrane play a critical role in the fluid-mosaic model of membrane structure and membrane function. Evidence is mounting for the role of abnormal phospholipid metabolism in some neuropsychiatric disorders including schizophrenia. As an important essential fatty acid (EFA), omega-3 (omega-3) fatty acid series are found in large amounts in fish oil.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the effectiveness of marginal toenail ablation for treating ingrowing toenails and identified factors that contribute to recurrence of symptoms.
  • Among the patients, 10.7% experienced a recurrence, indicating a failure of the operation based on specific criteria.
  • The findings suggested that using local anesthesia and addressing previously treated patients influenced recurrence rates, with full exposure and excision of the nail matrix being crucial for successful outcomes.
