Previous hepatitis E virus (HEV) seroprevalence studies in Turkey have shown high variabilities, leading to conflicting results. We aimed to re-evaluate HEV seroprevalence among blood donors in Turkey using the Wantai (Beijing, China) and the Dia.Pro (Milan, Italy) total anti-HEV antibody (Ab) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits and compare their performances and to investigate the presence of HEV RNA in blood donors.

Can Rotational Thromboelastometry be a New Predictive Tool for Retinal Vein Occlusion Development?

Purpose: To evaluate clotting dynamics by a new tool called rotational tromboelastometry (ROTEM) in retinal vein occlusion.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-six patients who were diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion and 43 age and sex matched healthy controls were included in this study. Diabetes and use of anticoagulant therapy were exclusion criteria.

Does plateletpheresis induce a hypercoagulable state? A global assessment of donor's hemostatic system by ROTEM.

Since there is still debate on the effects of plateletpheresis on coagulation system, we aimed to perform a global assessment of donor's hemostatic function undergoing plateletpheresis by rotation thromboelastometry (ROTEM) analysis and to clarify if plateletpheresis procedure induces a hypercoagulable state. Thirty male plateletpheresis donors were included in the study. Four blood samples were drawn at different time intervals: before the beginning of the apheresis procedure; immediately after the completion of the apheresis procedure; 24 h and 7 days after the apheresis procedure.

Initial and Long-Term Outcomes of Complex Bifurcation Aneurysms Treated by Y-Stent-Assisted Coiling with Low-Profile Braided Stents.

Background And Purpose: Coiling complex intracranial bifurcation aneurysms often necessitates the implantation of double stents in various configurations, such as Y-stent placement. Low-profile braided stents have been introduced recently to facilitate the endovascular treatment of wide-neck aneurysms. We aimed to investigate the feasibility, safety, efficacy, and durability of Y-stent-assisted coiling with double low-profile braided stents for the treatment of complex bifurcation aneurysms.

Adjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer in elderly patients has same benefits as in younger patients.

Objective: The age-adjusted mortality rate due to gastric cancer was reported to increase with age. This study aims to investigate the results of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients aged 65 years or older comparing with younger patients and focusing on its impact on survival.

Materials And Methods: A total of 406 patients with nonmetastatic gastric cancer that consisted of 283 patients younger than 65 years (range: 23-64 years) and 123 patients 65 years of age or older (range: 65-75 years) were retrospectively evaluated.

Influence of lipopolysaccharide on proinflammatory gene expression in human corneal, conjunctival and meibomian gland epithelial cells.

Purpose: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a bacterial endotoxin, is known to stimulate leuokotriene B4 (LTB4) secretion by human corneal (HCECs), conjunctival (HConjECs) and meibomian gland (HMGECs) epithelial cells. We hypothesize that this LTB4 effect represents an overall induction of proinflammatory gene expression in these cells. Our objective was to test this hypothesis.

The Double Hazard of Bleeding and Thrombosis in Hemostasis From a Clinical Point of View: A Global Assessment by Rotational Thromboelastometry (ROTEM).

Hemostasis is a complex dynamic process involving bleeding and thrombosis as two end-points. Conventional coagulation tests which are measured in plasma examine only isolated portions of the coagulation cascade, thereby giving no information on important interactions essential to the clinical evaluation of hemostatic function. Thromboelastography (TEG), originally described in 1948 has improved over the decades and become a valuable tool of coagulation testing because of the limitations of standard coagulation tests.

Purpose: To analyze the changes in anterior and posterior corneal surfaces and aberrations in patients who underwent intracorneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation for the treatment of keratoconus.

Methods: Eighty-nine eyes of 59 patients with keratoconus who underwent ICRS implantation were analyzed. All eyes were evaluated using a tomography system combining a Placido disc and Scheimpflug photography before and at least 6 months after surgery.

Materials And Methods: This is a prospective, cross-sectional, controlled, single-center study. Twenty-four eyes of 24 HZO patients and their contralateral clinically unaffected eyes and normal controls (n = 24) were included.

A rare cause of root-compression: Subaxial cervical synovial cyst in association with congenital fusion.

Electrophysiological assessment of the effects of obstructive sleep apnea on cognition.

We used electrophysiological measures to investigate the effects of obstructive sleep apnea on attention, learning, and memory. Thirty subjects (OSA group, n = 15, control group n = 15) participated in n-back tests, accompanied by P300 recordings, to investigate working memory and attention. The mirror-drawing test was used to study procedural memory, and the trail-making test (TMT) was used to evaluate divided attention and executive function.
