Background: The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected migrant populations in Japan, including Vietnamese migrants, who faced distinct challenges in accessing healthcare compared to native Japanese citizens. These challenges, exacerbated by the structural complexities of Japan's healthcare system during the pandemic, likely influenced their subjective health perceptions. Nevertheless, studies on Vietnamese migrants' difficulties in healthcare access during the pandemic and their perceived health perceptions are lacking.

The mechanisms underlying individual differences in core body temperature (T) are unexplained by genetic factors and poorly understood. Here, we investigated whether the environmental temperature during early development affects postnatal T. Mouse embryos were cultured from pronuclear to blastocyst stage in either standard (37 °C) or high (38 °C) temperature, and the T of each grown-up adult was measured.

Objectives: Studies on the relationship between serum sclerostin, a Wnt/β-catenin pathway inhibitor, and atherosclerosis have yielded inconsistent results. We aim to longitudinally investigate the relationship between serum sclerostin levels and the risk of increased arterial stiffness in Japanese community-dwelling women.
Methods: Of 1044 women aged ≥50 years whose brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) value was available in a baseline survey in 2011-2012, we excluded 374 whose baPWVs were ≥1800 cm/s, set as the cutoff for increased arterial stiffness, and eight with missing data.

This mixed method study evaluated caregiver burden and psychological status and their associations with objective sleep quality among seven pairs of older people with dementia (PWD) and their family caregivers (FCs). The Barthel index, the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), and conversations data with a virtual agent were used to assess caregiver burden, the Profile of Mood States (POMS) to assess the FCs' psychological status, and Nemuri SCAN to measure sleep quality. As a result, sleep duration was negatively correlated with POMS Confusion-Bewilderment and Vigor-Activity (VA), sleep efficiency was positively correlated with ZBI and negatively correlated with POMS-VA, sleep latency was positively correlated with POMS Tension-Anxiety, and wake after sleep onset was negatively correlated with ZBI and positively correlated with POMS Depression-Dejection and VA.

Discrepancies between sleep timing on work/school and free days, also known as social jetlag (SJL), can cause health problems. These issues occur most often in individuals from adolescence to the early 20s, which is equivalent to the age of university students. This study was designed to explore the recommended level of physical activity required to minimize SJL and to examine the relationship between SJL and objective physical activity among female university students.

Expert Committee on Support Activities for Disaster Nursing for FY 2021-2022, Japan Academy of Nursing Science, Tokyo, Japan.
Aim: We investigated the levels of anxiety and the factors influencing it among Japanese nursing researchers before and after engaging in dispatch support activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study also tested the relationships between pre- and post-relief anxiety and their enhancing and buffering factors.
Methods: A web-based survey was conducted with 9832 members from the Japan Academy of Nursing Science, covering 15 items related to participant attributes such as age and disaster relief qualifications, factors affecting anxiety about support activities such as the content and duration of one activity, and the level of anxiety before and after activities.
Aims: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between changes in glucose metabolism and body composition in patients with diabetes.
Methods: We included 380 patients with type 2 diabetes, who underwent bioelectrical impedance analysis, in this longitudinal study. Changes in HbA1c (ΔHbA1c) levels and body composition indices were compared between baseline and 6 months.

Migrants in Japan often face difficulties accessing healthcare due to language barriers, lack of information, shortage of interpreters, amongst other barriers. With an increase in the number of foreigners in Japan, it is also expected that health and safety concerns for migrants will rise during times of crisis or disaster. The purpose of this article is to present recommendations from Nepali migrants themselves about various actions that stakeholders or policymakers could take to improve healthcare access during future disasters, emergencies, or crises in Japan.

Objective: To assess the associations of baseline skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) with adverse events and rehabilitation outcomes in patients admitted for rehabilitation.
Design: A retrospective cohort study.
Participants: The subjects were 409 patients (mean age, 79 years; men, 167 [41%]) undergoing rehabilitation because of neurologic disease, musculoskeletal disorders, or hospital-associated deconditioning.
Objectives: In Japan, secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure in children has changed with increased heated tobacco products (HTPs) and electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) use. We clarified the status of home-based SHS exposure among children, including HTPs and e-cigs, as well as maternal perceptions on SHS avoidance and examined its association with health risks.
Methods: This cross-sectional questionnaire-survey-based study included 379 mothers who were raising children aged < 5 years.
Background: Many countries are experiencing rapid population aging, and the provision of support for older adults with diseases or disabilities to continue living in their communities is a major global challenge. Japan has established multifunctional long-term care in small group homes and home-visit nursing (MLSH) as a service category that integrates medical and care services. These services focus on nursing functions to support continuous, long-term home, and end-of-life care for older adults with high levels of medical care dependency.

Unlabelled: WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Children and adolescents' mental health problems, such as autism spectrum disorder, anxiety disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, are a global public health concern, and nurses require advanced expertise and skills to properly care for this population. There is a gap between the required competencies and the actual skills and knowledge of CAMHN practitioners. Previous studies suggest that educational interventions for nurses are necessary to enhance the quality of care for children and adolescents with mental health problems.
