Purpose: To present a case of high-impact perforating eye injury by knife throwing witnessed during a public performance and initially classified as penetrating eye injury.

Observations: During the second reconstructive procedure an exit wound was identified, which had been missed during primary wound repair due to extensive swelling of adjacent soft tissue. The occult exit wound could be sealed and the retina attached under silicone oil.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate differences between phakic, pseudophakic, and scarred stromal donor tissue for their influence on complication rates during preparation or implantation and on the postoperative outcome of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK).

Objectives: Numerous laser and light therapies have been developed to induce regenerative processes in the choroid/retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)/photoreceptor complex, leaving the neuroretina undamaged. These therapies are applied to the macula for the treatment of various diseases, most prominently diabetic maculopathy, retinal vein occlusion, central serous chorioretinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. However, the abundance of technologies, treatment patterns, and dosimetry protocols has made understanding these therapies and comparing different approaches increasingly complex and challenging.

Purpose: Hydrogel-based vitreous substitutes have the potential to overcome the limitations of current clinically used endotamponades. With the goal of entering clinical trials, the present study aimed to (I) transfer the material synthesis of hyaluronic acid-based hydrogels into a routine, pharmaceutical-appropriate production and (II) evaluate the properties of the vitreous substitutes in terms of the current regulations for medical devices (MDR/ISO standards).

Purpose: Presenting a simple technique using an inversely implanted contact lens to create a temporary diaphragm to assist DMEK surgery in aphakic, partially aniridic and vitrectomized eyes.

Observations: The postoperative course was without pressure abnormalities and the anterior chamber remained deep. The cornea completely cleared within 3 weeks and remained clear after removal of the contact lens showing a corneal thickness of 544 μm and an intact endothelial cell pattern on endothelial cell microscopy after 3 months.
