The incidence of cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)-CUP is increasing, with a significant proportion being HPV-associated. In this 10-year retrospective study, we analyzed clinical and therapeutic parameters of patients with cervical SCC-CUP. Primary tumor detection rates in patients with initial SCC-CUP (SCC-CUP) were assessed and mean overall survival and disease-free survival of patients without primary tumor detection after an extended diagnostic workup, i.

Background: Against the background of inadequate healthcare provision for children and adolescents with post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS), a model project was initiated in Bavaria (PoCoKiBa: Post-COVID Kids Bavaria), offering specialized diagnostics and care. The aim of this study was to explore and describe the experiences and satisfaction of children and adolescents with PCS, as well as their parents, with the healthcare provided in the model project.
Methods: From October to December 2022, seven focus group discussions were conducted via video conference or in person with a total of 32 participants (19 children/adolescents, twelve mothers, one father).

Klinik und Poliklinik für Plastische Chirurgie und Handchirurgie, Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München, München, Germany.
Background: Liposuction for stage III lipoedema is a guideline-based but also time-consuming treatment, which can be carried out under specific conditions at the expense of the German statutory health insurance companies (SHI) based on a decision made by the German Federal Joint Committee ("Gemeinsamer Bundesausschuss", G-BA), the highest decision-making body in the German healthcare system, in 09/2019. We postulate that the treatment is not reflected in a cost-covering manner in the university cost system.
Methods: This monocentric, retrospective study examined the economic aspects of 92 cases in 48 lipoedema patients treated during the period from 09/2019 to 08/2023 at the expense of the SHI.

Introduction: Although DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) is the gold standard for breast reconstruction, long-term results with a view to postoperative hairiness and flap skin colouration have rarely been described in the literature.
Methods: Patients who underwent DIEP flap breast reconstruction followed by NAC reconstruction between 2010 and 2019 were invited to our clinic for a survey and a clinical examination. A total of 781 patients were invited.

Objective: There is evidence suggesting that climate change, coupled with an increase in the frequency and severity of heatwaves, affects mental health. The aim of this study was to investigate potential associations between high temperature and the utilization of an emergency department (ED) by individuals with psychiatric disorders.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of all psychiatric emergency patients from 2015 to 2022 (N=15478) was conducted and compared with local temperature data.

Background: Although the number of places at medical schools and physicians in Germany has increased continuously over the past 25 years, there is a threat of a shortage of physicians. Based on data from the Bavarian Medical Association (BLÄK) and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Bavaria (KVB), an analysis of the number of physicians in Bavaria over a longer period of time was carried out in order to understand current developments and possible starting points for the future organization of medical care. The figures were analyzed with regard to the distribution of physicians by outpatient and inpatient sector as well as with regard to the development of the number of employees, the scope of employment and the gender distribution in the outpatient sector.

Considering polygenic risk scores (PRSs) in individual risk prediction is increasingly implemented in genetic testing for hereditary breast cancer (BC) based on next-generation sequencing (NGS). To calculate individual BC risks, the Breast and Ovarian Analysis of Disease Incidence and Carrier Estimation Algorithm (BOADICEA) with the inclusion of the BCAC 313 or the BRIDGES 306 BC PRS is commonly used. The PRS calculation depends on accurately reproducing the variant allele frequencies (AFs) and, consequently, the distribution of PRS values anticipated by the algorithm.

Background: The treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains challenging and survival rates have not been improved significantly over the past decades. Integrins have been recognized driving the cancer progression and high expression levels cause poor outcomes in patients afflicted with OSCC. Integrin αvβ6 and its subunit integrin beta 6 (ITGB6) were discovered to enhance the invasiveness by providing beneficial effects on downstream pathways promoting the cancer progression.

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is becoming an increasingly popular way to perform laboratory tests closer to the patient. This option has several recognized advantages, such as accessibility, portability, speed, convenience, ease of use, ever-growing test panels, lower cumulative healthcare costs when used within appropriate clinical pathways, better patient empowerment and engagement, and reduction of certain pre-analytical errors, especially those related to specimen transportation. On the other hand, POCT also poses some limitations and risks, namely the risk of lower accuracy and reliability compared to traditional laboratory tests, quality control and connectivity issues, high dependence on operators (with varying levels of expertise or training), challenges related to patient data management, higher costs per individual test, regulatory and compliance issues such as the need for appropriate validation prior to clinical use (especially for rapid diagnostic tests; RDTs), as well as additional preanalytical sources of error that may remain undetected in this type of testing, which is usually based on whole blood samples (i.

Background: Due to heterogeneous data, the indication for elective neck dissection (END) in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx and oropharynx (HPSCC and OPSCC) in stages T1/2N0 is somewhat unclear. Therefore, in this multicenter study, we performed detailed analysis of the metastatic behavior of HPSCC and OPSCC.
Material And Methods: The nodal metastatic patterns of 262 HPSCC and OPSCC patients who had undergone surgery was retrospectively investigated.

Increasing appreciation of the phenotypic and biological overlap between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia, alongside evolving biomarker evidence for a pre-symptomatic stage of disease and observations that this stage of disease might not always be clinically silent, is challenging traditional views of these disorders. These advances have highlighted the need to adapt ingrained notions of these clinical syndromes to include both the full phenotypic continuum - from clinically silent, to prodromal, to clinically manifest - and the expanded phenotypic spectrum that includes ALS, frontotemporal dementia and some movement disorders. The updated clinical paradigms should also align with our understanding of the biology of these disorders, reflected in measurable biomarkers.

Background And Objectives: Previous studies have shown an association between environmental exposure to heavy metals and hearing loss. However, the findings regarding the relationship between exposure to different metals and hearing loss development are inconsistent. To address this, we conducted a meta-analysis to explore the link between common heavy metal exposures and hearing loss.
