We report a rare case of a smooth muscle tumor of uncertain malignant potential arising in the inguinal soft tissue, requiring differential diagnosis from metastatic lymphadenopathy. The patient was a 74-year-old male. On the initial examination, a painless, elastic-firm mass measuring approximately 25 × 15 mm was palpated slightly cephalad and medial to the left inguinal region.

Head and neck cancer (HNC) frequently presents in the advanced stage, which necessitates treatments such as chemoradiotherapy and pharyngolaryngoesophagectomy. These treatments can impair functions including swallowing, speech, and saliva production, and diminish the quality of life (QOL). Key risk factors for HNC include alcohol consumption, smoking, and genetic polymorphisms in aldehyde dehydrogenase 2, which increase the susceptibility to carcinogenesis through the 'field cancerization phenomenon.

Influence of previous health guidance history: impact and limitations of a single health guidance session.

We report a case of acute type A aortic dissection where postoperative graft kinking led to acute liver failure, kidney injury and lower limb ischaemia corrected by thoracic endovascular aortic repair.

Both thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and malignant hypertension (MHT) present with thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). Combination therapy with caplacizumab, anti-von Willebrand factor (VWF) A1 domain antibody, and plasma exchange (PE) has recently been highlighted as a novel therapeutic option for TTP. We treated a 51-year-old woman who showed severe hypertension, retinopathy, and acute kidney injury.

The Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock 2024.

The 2024 revised edition of the Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock (J-SSCG 2024) is published by the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine. This is the fourth revision since the first edition was published in 2012. The purpose of the guidelines is to assist healthcare providers in making appropriate decisions in the treatment of sepsis and septic shock, leading to improved patient outcomes.

Background/aim: We previously developed A1-R, which selectively targets and kills tumors. In the present study, we established recombinant methioninase (rMETase)-producing A1-R (A1-R-rMETase), by transfer of the gene, to target methionine addiction of syngeneic-cancer mouse models.

Materials And Methods: A plasmid containing the gene was extracted from METase-producing recombinant and inserted into A1-R using electroporation.

Ezrin-radixin-moesin (ERM)-binding phosphoprotein 50 (EBP50) is a multifunctional scaffold protein that is highly expressed in polarized epithelial cells. Here, we focused on the functional roles of EBP50 in endometrial carcinoma (Em Ca). We analyzed immunohistochemical sections from 121 Em Ca and 30 normal samples.

Purpose: Ageing, long illness duration, and poor preoperative Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score were reported to be risk factors for residual pain after cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (cOPLL). In this study, we focused on residual neuropathic pain (NeP) and aimed to elucidate risk factors for residual NeP after cOPLL.

Methods: Total of 234 patients who underwent cOPLL surgery were included.

Methods: Patients admitted to the emergency department for trauma, excluding those with brain damage or serious psychiatric disorders, were enrolled. Blood samples were collected on admission, and PTSD symptoms were assessed using a questionnaire 1 and 3 months after the injury.
