Cellular temperature affects every biochemical reaction, underscoring its critical role in cellular functions. In neurons, temperature not only modulates neurotransmission but is also a key determinant of neurodegenerative diseases. Considering that the brain consumes a disproportionately high amount of energy relative to its weight, neural circuits likely generate a lot of heat, which can increase cytosolic temperature.

This study investigated the potential of using SARS-CoV-2 viral concentrations in dust as an additional surveillance tool for early detection and monitoring of COVID-19 transmission. Dust samples were collected from 8 public locations in 16 districts of Bangkok, Thailand, from June to August 2021. SARS-CoV-2 RNA concentrations in dust were quantified, and their correlation with community case incidence was assessed.

Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) significantly improves the sensitivity of magnetic resonance imaging, and its most important medical application is cancer diagnosis hyperpolarized C-labeled pyruvate. Unlike cryogenic DNP, triplet-DNP uses photoexcited triplet electrons under mild conditions. However, triplet-DNP of pyruvate has not been observed because of incompatibility of the hydrophobic polarizing agent with hydrophilic pyruvate.

Tumor sensitivity to platinum (Pt)-based chemotherapy and poly(adenosine diphosphate ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors is increased by homologous recombination deficiency-causing mutations; in particular, reversion mutations cause drug resistance by restoring protein function. Treatment response is predicted by breast cancer susceptibility gene 1/2 (BRCA1/2) mutations; however, BRCA1/2 reversion mutations have not been comprehensively studied in pan-cancer cohorts. We aimed to characterize BRCA1/2 reversion mutations in a large pan-cancer cohort of Japanese patients by retrospectively analyzing sequencing data for BRCA1/2 pathogenic/likely pathogenic mutations in 3738 patients with 32 cancer types.

The structural diversity of chemical libraries, which are systematic collections of compounds that have potential to bind to biomolecules, can be represented by chemical latent space. A chemical latent space is a projection of a compound structure into a mathematical space based on several molecular features, and it can express structural diversity within a compound library in order to explore a broader chemical space and generate novel compound structures for drug candidates. In this study, we developed a deep-learning method, called NP-VAE (Natural Product-oriented Variational Autoencoder), based on variational autoencoder for managing hard-to-analyze datasets from DrugBank and large molecular structures such as natural compounds with chirality, an essential factor in the 3D complexity of compounds.

Divalent metal cations such as calcium ion (Ca) and magnesium ion (Mg) are indispensable to the regulation of various cellular activities. In this research, we developed the KLCA series utilizing -aminophenol--diacetate--methylene-methylphosphinate (APDAP) as a target binding site, which was reported recently as a highly free Mg-selective ligand. with orange fluorescence based on a rhodamine fluorophore and with near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence based on a Si-rhodamine fluorophore were synthesized, intended for application to multicolor imaging.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are harmful for the human body, and exposure to ultraviolet irradiation triggers ROS generation. Previous studies have demonstrated that ROS decrease mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and that Mg protects mitochondria from oxidative stress. Therefore, we visualized the spatio-temporal dynamics of Mg in keratinocytes (a skin component) in response to HO (a type of ROS) and found that it increased cytosolic Mg levels.

Equitable SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in low-resource communities lacking centralized sewers is critical as wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) progresses. However, large-scale studies on SARS-CoV-2 detection in wastewater from low-and middle-income countries is limited because of economic and technical reasons. In this study, wastewater samples were collected twice a month from 186 urban and rural subdistricts in nine provinces of Thailand mostly having decentralized and non-sewered sanitation infrastructure and analyzed for SARS-CoV-2 RNA variants using allele-specific RT-qPCR.

Compost is used worldwide as a soil conditioner for crops, but its functions have still been explored. Here, the omics profiles of carrots were investigated, as a root vegetable plant model, in a field amended with compost fermented with thermophilic Bacillaceae for growth and quality indices. Exposure to compost significantly increased the productivity, antioxidant activity, color, and taste of the carrot root and altered the soil bacterial composition with the levels of characteristic metabolites of the leaf, root, and soil.
