Cellular temperature affects every biochemical reaction, underscoring its critical role in cellular functions. Tumor sensitivity to platinum (Pt)-based chemotherapy and poly(adenosine diphosphate ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors is increased by homologous recombination deficiency-causing mutations; in particular, reversion mutations cause drug resistance by restoring protein function. Treatment response is predicted by breast cancer susceptibility gene 1/2 (BRCA1/2) mutations; however, BRCA1/2 reversion mutations have not been comprehensively studied in pan-cancer cohorts. The structural diversity of chemical libraries, which are systematic collections of compounds that have potential to bind to biomolecules, can be represented by chemical latent space. A chemical latent space is a projection of a compound structure into a mathematical space based on several molecular features, and it can express structural diversity within a compound library in order to explore a broader chemical space and generate novel compound structures for drug candidates. In this study, we developed a deep-learning method, called NP-VAE (Natural Product-oriented Variational Autoencoder), based on variational autoencoder for managing hard-to-analyze datasets from DrugBank and large molecular structures such as natural compounds with chirality, an essential factor in the 3D complexity of compounds.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are harmful for the human body, and exposure to ultraviolet irradiation triggers ROS generation. Previous studies have demonstrated that ROS decrease mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and that Mg protects mitochondria from oxidative stress. Therefore, we visualized the spatio-temporal dynamics of Mg in keratinocytes (a skin component) in response to HO (a type of ROS) and found that it increased cytosolic Mg levels.

Compost is used worldwide as a soil conditioner for crops, but its functions have still been explored. Here, the omics profiles of carrots were investigated, as a root vegetable plant model, in a field amended with compost fermented with thermophilic Bacillaceae for growth and quality indices. Exposure to compost significantly increased the productivity, antioxidant activity, color, and taste of the carrot root and altered the soil bacterial composition with the levels of characteristic metabolites of the leaf, root, and soil.
