Disease-related cells differentiated from patient-derived iPSCs are useful for elucidating the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying these diseases. In this study, four iPSC lines were established from independent patients with sensorineural hearing loss and a mutation in EYA4. These iPSCs showed pluripotency, the capacity to differentiate into three germ layers, and normal karyotypes, suggesting that these lines are useful for the pathological study of sensorineural hearing loss and drug screening for ear disorders.

We report the establishment of a human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line from a 54-year-old male patient with an A1555G mutation in the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal RNA gene (MTRNR1), associated with sensorineural hearing loss. The established iPSC line expressed stemness markers or undifferentiated state markers. We also demonstrated the capacity of the cells to differentiate into the three germ layers, suggesting its pluripotency and utility in the pathological study of sensorineural hearing loss and drug screening for ear disorders.

The major clinical signs of coccidiosis in chickens due to Eimeria parasite are diarrhea and bloody feces. We hypothesized that DSP-6952, a partial agonist of the 5-hydroxytryptamine type-4 receptor and a gastrointestinal prokinetic agent, can induce natural bowel movements by enhancing gastrointestinal motility and colonic transit in patients with chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. This 3-part phase 1 study evaluated the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles of DSP-6952. In patients with lepromatous leprosy, Mycobacterium leprae is often observed inside the human microvascular endothelial cells (HMVEC) surrounding Schwann cells (SC) at the site of lesions in the peripheral nerves. Based on this observation, it is considered that the nasal mucous may be the invasion pathway for M. leprae and HMVEC serve as an important reservoir for the bacteria before they invade SC.

We examined the pathogenesis of glomerular damage in Th2 type-dependent GATA-3 transgenic (GATA-3 Tg) mice with IgA nephropathy (IgAN). GATA-3 Tg mice were immunized orally using OVA plus cholera toxin B (CTB), and measurement of the serum IgA antibody level and histopathological examination were performed. Marked increases in the serum levels of OVA-specific IgA antibody, IgA and IgG, C3 deposits analogous to those seen in IgAN, and expansion of the matrix in association with mesangial cell proliferation were observed.

Oncocytic L-type amino acid transporter (LAT) 1 may be a prognostic indicator and target of new molecular therapeutic agents against malignancies. To investigate whether LAT1 expression influence the outcomes of patients with bile duct cancer, the expression of LAT1, LAT2, CD98, and Ki-67 was investigated immunohistochemically in 134 surgically resected bile duct adenocarcinomas, including 84 distal extrahepatic bile duct adenocarcinomas, 21 hilar cholangiocarcinomas, 15 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas, and 14 ampullary adenocarcinomas. LAT1 expression was weakly correlated with CD98 expression and Ki-67 labeling index (LI).

Background: Several lines of evidence suggest that dysfunction of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) contributes to the pathophysiology of pervasive developmental disorders (PDD). The purpose of this study was to investigate neuropsychological dysfunctions in both the DLPFC and OFC of children and adolescents with high-functioning PDD.

Internal tibial rotation with the knee close to full extension combined with valgus collapse during drop landing generally results in non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between internal rotation of the knee and muscle activity from internal and external rotator muscles, and between the internal rotation of knee and externally applied loads on the knee during landing in collegiate basketball players. Our hypothesis was that the activity of biceps femoris muscle would be an important factor reducing internal knee rotation during landing.

CD3 is a complex of polypeptides which form part of the T cell receptor. Normal human peripheral pan T cells, express not only CD3, but the mRNA for myosin regulatory light chains MYL9, MYL12A, and MYL12B are also significantly expressed. In the Jurkat wild strain, an acute T cell leukemia cell line, CD3 on the surface and MYL9 mRNA are not expressed, while both MYL12A mRNA and MYL12B mRNA are expressed.

The helper T cell paradigm, divided into two distinct subsets, Th1 and Th2 cells, characterized by distinct cytokine and functions, has been expanded to IL-17-producing Th17 cells. Th1 cells producing IFN-γ are involved in delayed-type hypersensitivity, effective in intracellular pathogens defense, while Th2 cells secrete IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and IL-25 and has a central role in IgE production, eosinophilic inflammation, and the protection for helminthic parasite infection. Th17 cell lineages, expressing IL-17 family of cytokines and IL-23-mediated functions on T cells, plays a role in immune response to fungi and extracellular pathogens and autoimmune inflammatory disorders.
