While low dietary quality has been linked to poor mental health, evidence on more direct relations of specific dietary quality indicators, namely degrees of food processing, with mental health disorders remains limited. This study aims to investigate the association between food groups' intakes, defined based on their degree of food processing, with depression and anxiety symptoms in a sample of Lebanese adults. We hypothesized that higher intakes of ultra-processed foods (UPF) will be related to higher risk of depression and anxiety while an opposite association will be observed for unprocessed or minimally processed foods (MPF).

No evidence that breast cancer occurs at higher rates among young Arab women.

East Mediterr Health J

December 2024

Department of Radiology, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates breast cancer incidence rates among Arab women compared to women from high- and middle-income countries, focusing on age-specific data.
  • Findings reveal that young Arab women have breast cancer rates that are comparable to or lower than those in selected high- and middle-income countries, contradicting the perception of higher risk in this demographic.
  • The results suggest that the higher number of cases in Arab countries may be attributed to a younger population structure, emphasizing the need for updated breast cancer screening policies in the region.

Using -rhizobia- interaction networks, we address first the soil invasion success of , and second, we report either -rhizobia partnership should form an isolated module within the symbiosis interaction network. Different indexes were used to determine model invasion success and the network topology. Our results indicated that invasion decreased soil microbial biomass, basal respiration, and enzymatic activities.

Laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) is a minimally invasive surgical approach. Initially utilized for low-risk procedures, such as the resection of benign lesions, now LLR has evolved to include more complex operations such as metastatic lesions. We present in this article two cases with liver metastasis who underwent a successful two-stage total LLR: a 57-year-old man diagnosed with sigmoid cancer and liver metastasis and a 36-year-old man diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor and liver metastasis.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the possible impacts of fasting on physical activity and weight loss in adult users of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists, specifically semaglutide and tirzepatide, using qualitative methods to gain in-depth insights into participants' experiences and perceptions.

Patients And Methods: A qualitative study was conducted at the Polyclinic at King Faisal University, Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, during and after Ramadan in 2024, along with the completion of International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQs). The semi-structured interviews and the IPAQ were used to assess physical activity levels.

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy is a significant microvascular disorder and the leading cause of vision impairment in working-age individuals. Hyperglycemia triggers retinal damage through mechanisms such as the polyol pathway and the accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Inhibiting key enzymes in this pathway, aldose reductase (AR) and sorbitol dehydrogenase (SD), alongside preventing AGE formation, may offer therapeutic strategies for diabetic retinopathy and other vascular complications.

Homeostasis of tissues requires a complex balance between cell proliferation and cell death. The disruption of this balance leads to tumors. Cancer is a mortal disease that spreads all over the body, it is an irregular cell growth.

Background Cancer is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is anticipated that the number of new cases in Saudi Arabia will increase yearly as a result of significant changes in lifestyle and population development. There is little to no information or studies concerning cancer awareness or knowledge among the residents of Bisha Province.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: In Moroccan traditional medicine, plants from the Apiaceae family are widely utilized in folk medicine to treat various diseases associated with the digestive system. plays an important role as an antispasmodic that has been traditionally used, especially to treat digestive tract diseases in children.

Aim Of The Study: The aim of this research was to verify the traditional use by assessing the relaxant and spasmolytic activities of essential oil (ALEO) and then comparing them to the effects and potency of the major constituent of ALEO, which is perillaldehyde.

Background: The study aimed to detect the association between insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) polymorphisms among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Materials And Methods: This study involved 500 individuals; 250 obese DM cases and 250 healthy controls. The polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism was used to identify the genotype of the IGF2BP2 gene for the small nucleoproteins rs4402960 (G>T) and small nucleoproteins rs800795 (G>C).

Introduction: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disorder marked by Q10 hyperglycemia that can negatively affect both mothers and newborns. The increasing prevalence of GDM and the limitations associated with the standard diagnostic test highlight the urgent need for early screening strategies that promote timely interventions.

Methods: This study aims to investigate the metabolic profile associated with GDM through an untargeted metabolomic analysis using mass spectrometry (MS)- based omics.

This review article studies the complex field of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) in cancer biology, focusing on their potential use as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. NcRNAs include circular RNAs (circRNAs), long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), and microRNAs (miRNAs). We discuss how ncRNAs affect gene expression in cancerous cells, the spread of cancer, and metastasis.

Background: Pathogenic variants in are associated with pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy (PDE), a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by epileptic seizures, unresponsiveness to standard antiseizure medications (ASM), and a response only to pyridoxine. Here, we report two patients (from a consanguineous family) with neonatal seizures and developmental delay.

Case Presentation: Patient 1 (a 13-year-old girl) was born normally at term.

The search for effective anti-cancer therapies has led to the exploration of dual inhibition strategies targeting multiple key molecular pathways. In this study, we aimed to design a novel candidate capable of dual inhibition targeting both EGFR (Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor) and PARP-1 (poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase-1), two crucial proteins implicated in cancer progression and resistance mechanisms. Through molecular hybridization and structure-based drug design approaches, we synthesized a series of compounds based on spirooxindole with triazole scaffolds with the potential for dual EGFR and PARP-1 inhibition.

In this study, we investigate the thermoelectric properties of functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (F-MWCNTs) dispersed over a flexible substrate through a facile vacuum filtration route. To improve their interfacial adhesion and dispersion, F-MWCNTs underwent hot-pressing. The heat-treatment has improved the nanotubes' connections and subsequently reduced porosity as well, which results in an increasing electrical conductivity upon increasing temperature of hot-pressing.

This study introduces a novel synchronous spectrofluorimetry coupled with chemometric tools for the determination of tenofovir and dolutegravir antiretroviral drugs. Utilizing partial least squares regression (PLS) fine-tuned by genetic algorithm as variable selection tool, the developed models demonstrate greater sensitivity, cost-effectiveness, and reduced environmental impact compared to traditional HPLC methods. The model's validation was further confirmed using external validation in addition to QC samples as per ICH M10 guidelines, which yielded high accuracy ranged between 94.
