Developing cost-effective and efficient adsorbents for heavy metals in multicomponent systems is a challenge that needs to be resolved to meet the challenges of wastewater treatment technology. Two adsorbents were synthesized, characterized, and investigated for the removal of Cd and Cr as model heavy metals in their single and binary solutions. The first adsorbent (ACZ) was a nanocomposite formed of O-Carboxymethyl chitosan, sodium alginate, and zeolite.

The study characterized the transcriptionally regulatory mechanism and functions of three zinc (Zn) transporters (znt4, znt5 and znt10) in Zn metabolism in yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco), commonly freshwater fish in China and other countries. We cloned the sequences of znt4 promoter, spanning from -1217 bp to +80 bp relative to TSS (1297 bp); znt5, spanning from -1783 bp to +49 bp relative to TSS (1832 bp) and znt10, spanning from -1923 bp to +190 bp relative to TSS (2113 bp). In addition, after conducting the experiments of sequential deletion of promoter region and mutation of potential binding site, we found that the Nrf2 binding site (-607/-621 bp) and Klf4 binding site (-5/-14 bp) were required on znt4 promoter, the Mtf-1 binding site (-1674/-1687 bp) and Atf4 binding site (-444/-456 bp) were required on znt5 promoter and the Atf4 binding site (-905/-918 bp) was required on znt10 promoter.

A new series of benzene-sulfonamide derivatives 3a-i was designed and synthesized via the reaction of N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)cyanamides 1a-i with sulfamethazine sodium salt 2 as dual Src/Abl inhibitors. Spectral data IR, H-, C- NMR and elemental analyses were used to confirm the structures of all the newly synthesized compounds 3a-i and 4a-i. Crucially, we screened all the synthesized compounds 3a-i against NCI 60 cancer cell lines.

In aquaculture, fluctuating water temperatures can act as a potent stressor, influencing the virulence and transmission dynamics of pathogenic bacteria, potentially triggering outbreaks and impacting fish health. The purpose of this work was to examine the impact of Shewanella spp. infection on hematological, biochemical, and antioxidant-immune parameters of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) under different water temperatures.

There is still a great global need for efficient treatments for the management of SARS-CoV-2 illness notwithstanding the availability and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccinations. Olive leaf is an herbal remedy with a potential antiviral activity that could improve the recovery of COVID-19 patients. In this work, the olive leaves major metabolites were screened in silico for their activity against SARS-CoV-2 by molecular docking on several viral targets such as methyl transferase, helicase, Plpro, Mpro, and RdRp.

For the first time, it has been found that the electrochemical performance of the Al-Mg alloy as an anode in alkaline batteries has been markedly enhanced in the presence of CO and LiOH as an electrolyte. This work compares the electrochemical performance of an Al-Mg alloy used as an anode in Al-air batteries in KOH and LiOH solutions, both with and without CO. Potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel), charging-discharging (galvanostatic) experiments, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) are used.

Background: In the population of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), most studies compared the use of atypical antipsychotics, such as quetiapine, with the use of traditional haloperidol in patients with delirium of various forms and etiologies. The role of such agents in patients with hyperactive delirium is not fully understood. This study compares the effectiveness of quetiapine with haloperidol in treating the hyperactive form of delirium in terms of their effects on the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (DRS-R-98), length of stay in the ICU, and mortality in critically ill patients.

Background: Autophagy is a well-preserved mechanism essential in minimizing endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER)-related cell death. Defects in β-cell autophagy have been linked to type 1 diabetes, particularly deficits in the secretion of insulin, boosting ER stress sensitivity and possibly promoting pancreatic β-cell death. Quercetin (QU) is a potent antioxidant and anti-diabetic flavonoid with low bioavailability, and the precise mechanism of its anti-diabetic activity is still unknown.

The development of effective drugs targeting the K-Ras oncogene product is a significant focus in anticancer drug development. Despite the lack of successful Ras signaling inhibitors, recent research has identified PDEδ, a KRAS transporter, as a potential target for inhibiting the oncogenic KRAS signaling pathway. This study aims to investigate the interactions between eight K-Ras inhibitors (deltarazine, deltaflexin 1 and 2, and its analogues) and PDEδ to understand their binding modes.
