Sacral chordoma, an invasive tumor, necessitates surgical removal of the tumor and the affected region of the sacrum, disrupting the spinopelvic connection. Conventional reconstruction methods, relying on rod and screw systems, often face challenges such as rod failure, sub-optimal stability, and limited osseointegration. This study proposes a novel design for a porous-based sacral reconstruction prosthesis.

Mycelium-based composites (MBCs) are eco-friendly materials made by combining mushroom mycelia with lignocellulosic biomass, offering diverse applications such as packaging and construction. The specific characteristics of MBCs can be significantly influenced by the choice of substrates and reinforcing materials during myco-fabrication. This study aims to improve MBCs sourced from (oyster mushroom) using spent coffee grounds (SCGs) as the main substrate, combined with natural pineapple fibres (NPFs).

A novel triphenylamine-based dicyano fluorophore (compound 2) was successfully synthesized using a Suzuki cross-coupling reaction, followed by a Knoevenagel condensation catalyzed with baker's yeast. Later, compound 2 was combined with the hydrazine vapor of an electrospun nanofiber sheet, depending on its solid condition. In addition, the electrospinning technique was used to create a nanofiber sheet made of cellulose acetate (CA) combined with compound 2.

E50-52, a class IIa-peptidic bacteriocin produced by a strain of , has broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against various foodborne pathogens. However, effective utilization of the E50-52 has been limited by low production yields and challenges associated with separation and purification of this 39-amino acid antimicrobial peptide. In this study, we have successfully produced a biologically active recombinant form of E50-52 by fusing it with the 16-kDa catalytic domain of lysostaphin-class III bacteriocin (LssCAT), which resulted in high-yield production.

The rapid advancement in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data has developed significance in the water sector, particularly in hydrological time-series predictions. Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks have become research focal points due to their effectiveness in modeling non-linear, time-variant hydrological systems. This review explores the different architectures of RNNs, LSTMs, and Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs) and their efficacy in predicting hydrological time-series data.

The material properties of individual micro-struts are critical to the overall success of lattice structures. These properties can be significantly compromised by defects inherited from powder bed fusion processes. Among these defects, porous inclusions are well understood to have a detrimental effect on mechanical properties; posing a high risk to the implant under loading.

This article explores the novel use of natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES) in real food by incorporating them into mayonnaise, either alone or with pigmented rice bran (RB). Results showed that NaDES-fortified mayonnaises could prevent lipid oxidation. Notably, mayonnaises with NaDES2 (betaine:sucrose:water) significantly reduced the production of lipid hydroperoxides, which was maintained to an average of 2.

Blue energy generation in nanochannels based on salinity gradients is currently the most promising method in the area of nonconventional energy production. We used a semidiluted pure sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC)-KCl aqueous solution to study the characteristics of blue energy generation within a charged nanochannel. We solve the corresponding equations for ionic transport using a numerical technique based on the finite element method.

To investigate the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) at 660 and 810 nm on amyloid-beta (Aβ)42-induced toxicity in differentiated SH-SY5Y cells and to assess its impact on Aβ42 accumulation and cholinergic neurotransmission. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the accumulation of Aβ peptides, leading to neurodegeneration, cholinergic deficit, and cognitive decline. PBMT has emerged as a potential therapeutic approach to mitigate Aβ-induced toxicity and enhance cholinergic function.

The objective of this paper is to present new heat transfer enhancement approaches in plate-fin heat sinks (PFHS) using copper foam and twisted tapes. The motivation behind these concepts is to reduce pressure drop while enhancing heat transfer compared to PFHSs fully inserted with copper foam. The impact of twisted tape type, twist ratio, and Reynolds number () on the heat and flow behaviors inside the PFHS equipped with copper foam (PFHSCF) is investigated.

Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling serves as a valuable tool for determining the distribution and disposition of substances in the body of an organism. It involves a mathematical representation of the interrelationships among crucial physiological, biochemical, and physicochemical parameters. A lack of the values of pharmacokinetic parameters can be challenging in constructing a PBPK model.

In primates, foveal and peripheral vision have distinct neural architectures and functions. However, it has been debated if selective attention operates via the same or different neural mechanisms across eccentricities. We tested these alternative accounts by examining the effects of selective attention on the steady-state visually evoked potential (SSVEP) and the fronto-parietal signal measured via EEG from human subjects performing a sustained visuospatial attention task.

Several conjugate gradient (CG) parameters resulted in promising methods for optimization problems. However, it turns out that some of these parameters, for example, 'PRP,' 'HS,' and 'DL,' do not guarantee sufficient descent of the search direction. In this work, we introduce new spectral-like CG methods that achieve sufficient descent property independently of any line search (LSE) and for arbitrary nonnegative CG parameters.

In a rapidly urbanizing world, heavy air pollution and increasing surface temperature pose significant threats to human health and lives, especially in densely populated cities. In this study, we took an information theory perspective to investigate the causal relationship between diel land surface temperature (LST) and transboundary air pollution (TAP) from 2003 to 2020 in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR), which includes Bangkok Metropolis and its five adjacent provinces. We found an overall increasing trend of LST over the study region, with the mean daytime LST rising faster than nighttime LST.

Herein, we investigate the effect of tilt mismatch on the quantum oscillations of spin transport properties in two-dimensional asymmetrically tilted Dirac cone systems. This study involves the examination of conductance oscillation in two distinct junction types: transverse- and longitudinal-tilted Dirac cones (TTDCs and LTDCs). Our findings reveal an unusual quantum oscillation of spin-polarized conductance within the TTDC system, characterized by two distinct anomaly patterns within a single period, labeled as the linear conductance phase and the oscillatory conductance phase.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia, affecting over 50 million people worldwide. Currently, most approved medications for AD inhibit the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), but these treatments often come with harmful side effects. There is growing interest in the use of natural compounds for disease prevention, alleviation, and treatment.
