Lead (Pb) is found in almost all phases in environment and biological systems. Pb stimulated oxidative stress is a state that involves the generation of free radicals beyond the permissible limits, which can deplete the antioxidant reserves and can result in oxidative stress, thus hampering the ability of the biological system to reverse the result. Exposure of rats to Pb (25 mg/kg body weight) for 8 weeks caused an increase in Pb levels in blood and brain.

The COVID-19 infections have posed an unprecedented global health emergency, with nearly three million deaths to date, and have caused substantial economic loss globally. Hence, an urgent exploration of effective and safe diagnostic/therapeutic approaches for minimizing the threat of this highly pathogenic coronavirus infection is needed. As an alternative to conventional diagnosis and antiviral agents, nanomaterials have a great potential to cope with the current or even future health emergency situation with a wide range of applications.

Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the stress pattern in cortical and cancellous bones, periodontal ligament, and in the implant itself when a mini-implant (MI) is inserted in the inter-radicular space between mandibular first molar and second premolar at various angulations and different retraction forces.
Methods: Finite element study was conducted with MI insertion at 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, and 90° angulations in the mandibular posterior region (between second premolar and first molar). At these angulations, horizontal forces of 150, 200, and 250 g were applied to the middle of the MI head.

This causes arrest of alveolarization, affecting lung development with hypoplasia of the ipsilateral pulmonary artery and results in a characteristic radiological pattern, such as a unilateral hyperlucent lung with expiratory air-trapping and pruned-tree appearance on pulmonary angiogram. The clinical presentation is either recurrent chest infections, exertional dyspnoea or it may be an incidental finding.

Aims/introduction: Diabetes has profound consequences on the cardiovascular system leading to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. Blood pressure (BP) has a characteristic and reproducible circadian pattern, with high values during the day and low values at night. A 7-day timed analysis of BP through ambulatory blood pressure monitoring has been used not only to diagnose day and night dipping patterns of blood pressure, but also to measure day-to-day variability and the circadian hyper-amplitude-tension, a condition in which excessive circadian BP amplitude precedes the chronic established hypertension.

Objectives: Patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) often experience problems such as poor quality of life (QoL), loss of self-efficacy (SE), inappropriate coping behavior, and chronic widespread pain along with other symptoms. Recent studies have indicated that sense of SE and effective coping strategies (CSs) are the crux on which the management of chronic pain and enrichment of QoL of FMS patients depend. Realizing the importance of this subject for the rehabilitation of the people with FMS, this study aimed at analyzing the correlation between severity of FMS, and QoL, SE, and CSs among the patients of FMS.

Chyluria is the passage of milky urine due to a lymphourinary fistula secondary to lymphatic stasis caused by obstruction of the lymphatic flow. This can be caused by parasitic or non-parasitic infections. Though chyluria is a commonly encountered entity in clinical practice particularly in developing countries like India, it is rarely discussed in English literature.

Primary renal aspergillosis is a rare urological entity and immune-compromised persons are commonly prone to it. The clinical presentation resembles that of usual bacterial pyelonephritis. We report a case of localised unilateral renal aspergillosis with obstructive uropathy (hypoplastic contralateral kidney) in a young man, occurring after the endoscopic removal of impacted right upper ureteric calculus in a non-immunocompromised patient.

Background: To investigate the nuclear matrix protein NMP22 in voided urine for detection of malignancy in patients with risk factors of symptoms of bladder cancer.
Methods: January 2009 to December 2012, participants included 1,331 patients at elevated risk for bladder cancer due to factors such as history of smoking or symptoms including hematuria and dysuria, patients at risk for malignancy of the urinary tract provided a voided urine sample for analysis of NMP22 protein and cytology prior to cystoscopy. The diagnosis of bladder cancer, based on cystoscopy with biopsy, was accepted as the reference standard.

Background: Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) are frequently hospitalized with an acute exacerbation. Patients with COPD often lose weight. Consequently, deterioration in nutritional status (loss of lean body mass) is a likely repercussion of acute exacerbation in hospitalized COPD patients.

Sepsis--a state of systemic bacterial infection--often leads to multiorgan failure and is associated with high mortality despite the recent advances achieved in intensive care treatment. Many of the ill effects of sepsis are attributed to an abnormally enhanced host inflammatory response that leads to neutrophil recruitment and activation involving selectins, a class of adhesion molecules, in the initial stages. Nitric oxide and its various isoforms have also been implicated in various vascular alterations and directly participate in the cellular toxicity in sepsis.
