Cervicofacial necrotizing fasciitis (CNF) can occur as a dental complication in young, healthy individuals. Early diagnosis, treatment, and awareness of severe acute cervicofacial pain, rapid swelling, and radiological gas formation are crucial. Broad molecular profiling is recommended for understanding the organisms involved in such infections in future research.

Coronary artery aneurysms and ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction are rare in clinical practice, presenting a management challenge. To the best of our knowledge, this case appears to be the first successful percutaneous treatment of a completely obstructed aneurysmal left main coronary artery.

Bioresorbable stents represent a revolutionary treatment for coronary artery disease. Such a device offers the prospect for complete naturalization of artery lumen after strut resorption and restoration of vasomotion while curtailing the duration of dual anti-platelet therapy. The prototype bioresorbable scaffold (BRS-ABSORB GT1) demonstrated good feasibility and safety in the initial studies compared to metallic drug eluting stent but later fell out of favor due to multiple report of stent thrombosis and target lesion failure.

Objectives: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related death among women. An Estrogen Receptor (ER) antagonist called tamoxifen is used as an adjuvant therapy for ER-positive breast cancers. Approximately 40% of patients develop tamoxifen resistance (TAMR) while receiving treatment.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder with a varying range of organs involved leading to adverse outcomes. However, very little is known, with conflicting results about the association between RA and atrial fibrillation (AF). We aim to evaluate the association between RA and AF, and other clinical outcomes.

Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis (CVST) is a subtype of venous thromboembolism, which occurs in the dural venous sinuses. Blockage of the venous drainage of the brain leads to the development of hemorrhages. Strokes can hence develop in any individual, irrespective of age or sex.

Background: Immunotherapy currently stands as a novel treatment option, specifically in cases of advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Expression of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) in tumor cells forms the mainstay for the use of anti-PD-L1 monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of NSCLC.

Aims: The objectives of the study were to assess utility of cell blocks for testing of PD-L1 in adenocarcinoma lung and to compare the expression of PD-L1 in cell blocks and the corresponding biopsy specimens.

Key Clinical Message: The morphology of in-stent restenosis (ISR) in drug eluting stents varies greatly from that of bare metal stents. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a useful aid for identifying the nature of ISR and planning the treatment accordingly, which may be by intravascular lithotripsy, cutting balloon or Rotablator, which can be used upfront if OCT shows calcified neoatherosclerosis.

Abstract: Restenosis is the decrease in the diameter of the vessel lumen after the performance of percutaneous intervention (PCI), which may or may not involve the implantation of a stent.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study analyzed urine samples from 36 severe OSA patients and 36 healthy individuals using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), identifying 142 significant metabolites that could serve as potential biomarkers for OSA.
  • * Key metabolites like GABA and malic acid were highlighted, showing high accuracy in screening for OSA, while pathway analysis suggested that specific metabolic pathways could be crucial in understanding the disorder's underlying mechanisms.

This article highlights the discovery of a new virus lurking in bats in Yunnan province of China. The virus shows phylogenetic and genomic similarity to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus, which was the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic. The virus, named Bat SARS-like virus BtSY2, along with four other viruses, has been named a "virus of concern.

Key Clinical Message: Primary intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH) is a rare condition in pediatric patients, presenting with headache, vomiting, and altered mental status. Surgical interventions, such as external ventricular drain placement, followed by ventriculoperitoneal shunting, show promising outcomes. Further research is needed to enhance understanding and optimize management strategies for pediatric PIVH.

Unlabelled: Background Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with many diseases, but evidence indicating that OSA is a risk factor for dyslipidemia is lacking. Aim This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence of lipid abnormalities in patients with OSA and its association with OSA severity.

Material And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 102 patients with suspected OSA underwent standard polysomnography.

Objectives: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) imposes an enormous burden all over the world in both developed and developing countries. Inter-individual differences are attributed to polymorphisms in candidate genes resulting in altered absorption, transportation, distribution, and metabolism of oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs). Hence, the present study was undertaken to evaluate the pharmacogenetic impact of SLC22A1 gene variant rs628031 (G/A) on metformin monotherapy in newly diagnosed untreated T2D patients.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by the complete or partial blockage of the upper airway passage during sleep which causes repetitive breaks in sleep and may result in excessive daytime sleepiness. OSA has been linked to various metabolic disorders and chronic health conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and depression. Profiling of alterations in metabolites and their regulation in OSA has been hypothesized to be an effective approach for early diagnosis and prognosis of OSA.

Background: Conventional optimization techniques are based on the planning approach in which positions and weights are varied to generate the desired dose distribution. Inverse planning simulated annealing (IPSA) is an advanced optimization method developed to automatically determine a suitable combination of positions to design an acceptable plan.

Objective: In this study, three optimization techniques namely IPSA, graphical optimization (GROPT), and geometrical optimization (GOPT) methods are compared in high-dose-rate interstitial brachytherapy of cervical carcinoma.

Objective: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a heterogeneous disorder with a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Over the years, with advancement in genotyping and sequencing techniques, various loci have shown an association with OSA. It is pertinent to understand the status of these associated variants in different ethnic groups.

We report an interesting case of a young man who revealed extensive spontaneous dissection of the RCA in diagnostic angiography. It was surprising that despite an extensive dissection, the patient remained hemodynamically stable on medical management throughout the procedure and during the post-procedure hospital stay.

We have assessed the impact of three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of Forkhead Box O1 () and their interaction on susceptibility of type 2 diabetes mellitus in geriatric population from northern India. We genotyped three SNPs (rs2721068, rs17446614, and rs4581585) of gene in 190 elderly individuals with diabetes and 182 unrelated healthy controls of similar ethnicity by using TaqMan SNP assays. SNP-SNP and SNP-environment interactions among polymorphic loci were studied by the multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) method.
