Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on primary lymphoid neoplasms in the urinary tract and male genital organs, which are rare and make up less than 5% of extranodal lymphomas.
  • Researchers analyzed cases diagnosed from 2005 to 2020, examining pathology slides from 11 patients, predominantly middle-aged, finding a female predominance in urinary bladder and ureter lymphomas.
  • The findings confirm that diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype, but emphasize the importance of thorough classification and diagnosis using techniques like immunohistochemistry to accurately identify various lymphoma types.

Background: Understanding the role and function of genetic variants is extremely important when analyzing and interpreting a myriad of human disease processes. For cancer in general, cell-specific genetic variants are ubiquitous and distinct tissues have significantly heterogenic genetic profiles. In clinical practice, only a few genetic variants have identifiable clinical utility.

Introduction: Permanent arteriovenous fistula and graft are considered the best options for hemodialysis in end-stage renal disease patients. Temporary access using the internal jugular or femoral veins is the feasible option in acute cases of dialysis and if permanent access is unavailable. Occasionally, however, these access sites are unusable after consecutive blockage of the upper and lower extremities veins.

Opening hysterectomy specimens for pathological assessment can be performed before or after formalin fixation. The former method, preferred by most pathologists, limits the autolytic changes of the endometrium, but it may result in a distortion of the uterine wall as a result of the contraction of the myometrium. This may interfere with the assessment of the degree of tumor extension to the uterine wall.

The phenotype of p-AMPK has been suggested as a possible marker for diagnosis and/or prognosis in tumors located in different organs. Nonetheless, there are conflicts among the outcomes found in several tumors, and little is proven concerning the correlation between the phenotype of p-AMPK and its clinical significance in urinary bladder carcinomas. Therefore, this research will define the p-AMPK expression patterns, and study the relationship between this pattern of expression, in a panel of urinary bladder carcinomas compared to normal tissues, and clinicopathological features to determine the clinical relevance and the function of p-AMPK in the evolution of bladder cancer.
