Neoadjuvant pemigatinib as a bridge to living donor liver transplantation for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with FGFR2 gene rearrangement.

We report a case of a 55-year-old male with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) who underwent living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) after complete radiographic response on second-line pemigatinib. LDLT for iCCA is controversial, but recent reports have cited the potential benefit for patients with unresectable disease, especially those with disease stability after 6 months of systemic therapy. Concomitantly, genomic profiling has identified potentially treatable oncologic targets in iCCA.

The South African guidelines on enuresis: 2024 update.

Background: Enuresis, also referred to as nocturnal enuresis, is characterised by discrete episodes of urinary incontinence during sleep in children aged ≥5 years in the absence of congenital or acquired neurological disorders. This guideline is an update of the 2017 version.

Recommendations: The guideline provides recommendations and suggestions for various therapeutic options for enuresis available in South Africa (SA).

However, in the vast majority of cases, the etiology of HTX remains elusive.

Accuracy of imaging of BI-RADS 4 subcategorizations in breast lesion diagnosis: Radiologic-pathologic correlation.

Objectives: To correlate breast imaging-reporting and data system (BI-RADS) category 4 lesions with histopathology results to assess the accuracy of subcategorization.

Methods: A retrospective study was carried out from September 2021 to June 2022. A total of 247 breast lesions were reviewed categorized as BI-RADS 4 using ultrasound (US) and digital mammography.

Combination of Methotrexate and Resveratrol Reduces Pro-Inflammatory Chemokines in Human THP-1 Cells.

Introduction: Methotrexate (MTX) is a widely used anti-metabolite drug in cancer therapy, but its efficacy is often hindered by reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced cellular toxicity. Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, possesses antioxidant and anticancer properties. Therefore, this in vitro study aimed to investigate the synergistic anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory effects of MTX and resveratrol in human THP-1 cells.

Inter-reader agreement of the BI-RADS CEM lexicon.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the inter-reader agreement of the breast imaging reporting and data system (BI-RADS) contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) lexicon.

Materials And Methods: In this IRB-approved, single-center, retrospective study, three breast radiologists, each with different levels of experience, reviewed 462 lesions in 421 routine clinical CEM according to the fifth edition of the BI-RADS lexicon for mammography and to the first version of the BI-RADS lexicon for CEM. Readers were blinded to patient outcomes and evaluated breast and lesion features on low-energy (LE) images (breast density, type of lesion, associated architectural distortion), lesion features on recombined (RC) images (type of enhancement, characteristic of mass enhancement, non-mass enhancement or enhancing asymmetry), and provided a final BI-RADS assessment.

Arab founder variants: Contributions to clinical genomics and precision medicine.

Background: Founder variants are ancestral variants shared by individuals who are not closely related. The large effect size of some of these variants in the context of Mendelian disorders offers numerous precision medicine opportunities.

Methods: Using one of the largest datasets on Mendelian disorders in the Middle East, we identified 2,908 medically relevant founder variants derived from 18,360 exomes and genomes and investigated their contribution to the clinical annotation of the human genome.

Abnormal transcriptomic profiles of coagulation genes have been linked to coagulopathies in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The objective of the present study was to explore the frequency of genotypes and potential association of polymorphisms in genes encoding coagulation factors with the disease severity in COVID-19 patients.The patients were clinically categorized into four groups of COVID-19 disease severity (asymptomatic, mild, moderate, and severe).

Internal hernia following laparoendoscopic single site surgery: a case report.

Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy was introduced in 1995 as a means of minimally invasive surgeries that entail kidney extraction from healthy individuals. Since then, it has widely overtaken the traditional open surgical approaches, especially in live donor nephrectomy procedures worldwide. Laparoendoscopic single-site surgery is considered a more optimized surgical approach utilizing a single incision instead of four.

Synthesis and Evaluation of 3,5-Disubstituted-1,2,4-Oxadiazolyl Benzamides as Potential Anti-Breast Cancer Agents: In Vitro and In Silico Studies.

Herein, the synthesis, anti-cancer evaluation, and in silico studies of a series of 1,2,4-oxadiazole compounds (8-15) are disclosed. The synthesized molecules were tested in vitro for anti-cancer activity against MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, HeLa, Ishikawa cell lines and human embryonic kidney (HEK-293) cell lines. Among the synthesized compounds, 9 and 15 exhibited significant cytotoxicity, with IC values of 7.

Visual Outcome and Patient Satisfaction with Implantation of Trifocal Intraocular Lens After Radial Keratotomy.

Objective: To investigate the visual outcomes and patient satisfaction following trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation after radial keratotomy (RK).

Methods: This was a retrospective chart review wherein we studied 14 eyes from 7 patients who had undergone cataract surgery and had trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implanted in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia's King Fahd University Hospital and Kahhal private centre. Data such as demographic characteristics, the time between RK and cataract removal, intraoperative and postoperative complications, preoperative and postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), and refraction were evaluated.

Vulvar leiomyoma mimicking Bartholin's gland cyst: A case report.

Vulvar leiomyomas are rare benign tumors originating from smooth muscle cells of the vulvar tissue. This report concerns a 31-year-old woman who presented with a painless vulvar mass measuring 5 × 4 cm. The mass was clinically diagnosed as a Bartholin cyst due to its non-tender and soft nature, and as a result the patient underwent wide local excision of the vulvar mass.

Report of DeSanto-Shinawi Syndrome in Three Boys With Two Novel Variants in the WAC Gene and Expansion of the Phenotype.

Desanto-Shinawi syndrome (DESSHS) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by a loss of function variant or deletion of the WAC gene. DESSHS is characterized by dysmorphic features and global developmental delay. In this report, we discuss three boys with DESSHS.

Background: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) regulate cell metabolism and various biological processes by delivering specific proteins and nucleic acids to surrounding cells. We aimed to investigate the effects of the cargo contained in EVs derived from adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) on the porcine embryonic development.

Methods: ASCs were isolated from porcine adipose tissue and characterized using ASC-specific markers via flow cytometry.
