Biomass-derived activated carbons have gained significant attention as electrode materials for supercapacitors (SCs) due to their renewability, low-cost, and ready availability. In this work, we have derived physically activated carbon from date seed biomass as symmetric electrodes and PVA/KOH has been used as a gel polymer electrolyte for all-solid-state SCs. Initially, the date seed biomass was carbonized at 600 °C (C-600) and then it was used to obtain physically activated carbon through CO activation at 850 °C (C-850).

The power performance of the bio-electrochemical fuel cells (BEFCs) depends mainly on the energy harvesting ability of the anode material. The anode materials with low bandgap energy and high electrochemical stability are highly desirable in the BEFCs. To address this issue, a novel anode is designed using indium tin oxide (ITO) modified by chromium oxide quantum dots (CQDs).

Various strategies have been adapted to fabricate stable organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite (PVT) solar cells (PSCs). The triple-cation (CHNH (MA), CH(NH) (FA), and Cs) along with dual-anion (I and Br)-based PVT (TC-PVT) layer offers better stability than single cation-based PVTs. The deprivation of the PVT absorber is also influenced by the interface of the absorber with the charge transport layer (electron transport layer (ETL) and hole transport layer (HTL)).

Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are increasingly gaining attention in many application fields due to their outstanding porosity and thermal stability, among other exceptional characteristics. However, in the domain of water purification via adsorption, scientists have mainly focused on ZIF-8 and, to a lesser extent, ZIF-67. The performance of other ZIFs as water decontaminants is yet to be explored.

Titanium alloys have gained popularity as a bioimplant material due to their biocompatibility, low modulus of elasticity, and increased strength. However, other issues, such as corrosion resistance, and infections can reduce the implant's lifespan. This paper aims to fabricate a new Ti-30Nb-3Ag at% alloy with enhanced in vitro corrosion and antibacterial properties by mechanical alloying (MA) followed by powder consolidation.

A catalytic system for selective transformation of furfural into biofuel is highly desirable. However, selective hydrogenation of the C=O group over the furan ring of furfural to produce ether in one step is challenging. Here, we report the preparation of a series of magnetically recoverable FeCo@GC nano-alloys (37-40 nm).

Recently, halide perovskites have attracted a substantial attention. Although the focus was mostly on hybrid ones with organic polyatomic cations and with inadequate stability, there is a sizable inorganic halide space that is not well explored and may be more stable than hybrid perovskites. In this work, a robust automated framework is used to calculate the essential properties of the highly stable phases of 168 inorganic halide perovskites.

The realization of solar-light-driven CO  reduction reactions (CO RR) is essential for the commercial development of renewable energy modules and the reduction of global CO emissions. Combining experimental measurements and theoretical calculations, to introduce boron dopants and nitrogen defects in graphitic carbon nitride (g-C N ), sodium borohydride is simply calcined with the mixture of g-C N (CN), followed by the introduction of ultrathin Co phthalocyanine through phosphate groups. By strengthening H-bonding interactions, the resultant CoPc/P-BNDCN nanocomposite showed excellent photocatalytic CO reduction activity, releasing 197.

Horizontal wells are geometrically shaped differently and projected to different flow regimes than vertical wells. Therefore, the existing laws that govern flow and productivity in vertical wells are not applicable to horizontal wells directly. The objective of this paper is to develop machine learning models that predict well productivity index using several reservoir and well inputs.

The electrochemical conversion of CO into value-added chemicals is a promising approach for addressing environmental and energy supply problems. In this study, electrochemical CO catalysis to ethanol is achieved using incorporated Cu/CuO nanoparticles into nitrogenous porous carbon cuboids. Pyrolysis of the coordinated Cu cations with nitrogen heterocycles allowed Cu nanoparticles to detach from the coordination complex but remain dispersed throughout the porous carbon cuboids.

Electrochemical Reduction of CO to C1 and C2 Liquid Products on Copper-Decorated Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Nanosheets.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2022

Interdisciplinary Research Center for Hydrogen and Energy Storage (IRC-HES), King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran 31261, Saudi Arabia.

Due to the significant rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO) concentration and its detrimental environmental effects, the electrochemical CO conversion to valuable liquid products has received great interest. In this work, the copper-melamine complex was used to synthesize copper-based electrocatalysts comprising copper nanoparticles decorating thin layers of nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheets (Cu/NC). The as-prepared electrocatalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, and TEM and investigated in the electrochemical CO reduction reaction (ECORR) to useful liquid products.

Silver-Decorated Silicon Nanostructures: Fabrication and Characterization of Nanoscale Terraces as an Efficient SERS-Active Substrate.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2022

Interdisciplinary Research Center for Renewable Energy and Power Systems (IRC-REPS), Research Institute, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran 31261, Saudi Arabia.

Rich and highly dense surface-enhanced Raman (SERS) hotspots available in the SERS-active platform are highly anticipated in SERS measurements. In this work, conventional silicon wafer was treated to have wide exposure to terraces available within the silicon nanostructures (Si-NSs). High-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) investigations confirmed that the terraces were several microns wide and spread over different steps.

Herein, hydrothermal fabrication of CdO-g-CN photocatalyst for a substantially better photocatalytic recital in water splitting is presented. The XRD analysis confirms the cubic phase of CdO-g-CN, whereas FTIR and UV-VIS studies revealed the presence of respective groups and a median band gap energy (2.55 eV) of the photocatalyst, respectively, which further enhanced its photo-electrochemical (PEC) properties.
