Prescription opioids, particularly for treating musculoskeletal pain, are a significant contributor to the opioid epidemic in North America. There is also evidence to suggest that chronic use of opioids is associated with poor outcomes after orthopedic surgery. However, whether this association is relevant in foot and ankle surgery is still unclear.

The Successful Management of Primary Amenorrhea in Woodhouse-Sakati Syndrome: A Case Report and a Literature Review.

Background: Woodhouse-Sakati syndrome (WSS) is a rare multisystemic disease resulting from an autosomal recessive gene mutation characterized by distinctive facial appearance, alopecia, impaired HbA1c, and hypogonadism.

Purpose: To present the successful management of primary amenorrhea in a WSS patient.

Case Presentation: We report a 19-year-old Saudi female referred to the gynecology clinic at the age of 16 as a case of primary amenorrhea.

Physical activity assessment among patients with multiple sclerosis in Saudi Arabia.

Objectives: To measure and assess the physical activity (PA) of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and its association with the quality of life (QoL).

Methods: This cross-sectional study included patients with MS in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from August, 2022 to November, 2022. Data were collected via social media platforms using a questionnaire that included 3 sections: sociodemographic data, International PA Questionnaire (IPAQ), and the Health Status Questionnaire Short Form-36 (SF-36).

An updated review on pathogenic coronaviruses (CoVs) amid the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants: A look into the repercussions and possible solutions.

SARS-CoV-2, responsible for COVID-19, shares 79% and 50% of its identity with SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV, respectively. Background: Late detection of ocular diseases negatively affects patients' quality of life (QoL), encompassing health status, psychological, financial, and social aspects. However, the early detection of eye conditions leads to rapid intervention and avoiding complications, thus preserving the QoL. This study assessed the impact of ocular diseases late detection on patients' QoL at multi-eye clinics based on questionnaire responses.

Conservative Management of Giant Pyogenic Granuloma Post Strabismus Surgery: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Treatment options for pyogenic conjunctival granulomas include topical steroids, topical timolol, surgery, cryotherapy, and electrocautery. Patients with giant pyogenic granulomas are usually treated with surgical intervention.

Ophthalmic Complications of Periorbital and Facial Aesthetic Procedures: A Literature Review.

The emergence and popularity of cosmetic facial procedures may lead to significant ophthalmic complications such as ocular motility dysfunction and visual disability. Here, we present a scoping review to identify common ophthalmic complications in some facial plastic surgeries and cosmetic injections, and to develop clinical approaches for prophylaxis and management in terms of direct attention and awareness of non-ophthalmologists toward such scenarios and appropriate intervention. This review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

Loss to follow-up in a newborn hearing screening program in Saudi Arabia.

Objectives: Newborn hearing screening (NHS) program was officially initiated in Saudi Arabia in 2016. Although the rate of follow-up default is considered one of the major challenges to the NHS program, no studies have investigated the NHS rate of follow-up default and its reasons in Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to investigate the rate of follow-up default in a hospital-based NHS program and the possible reasons for it.

The Perspective of the General Population in Saudi Arabia towards Do-Not-Resuscitate (DNR) Orders: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Objectives: In the event of cardiac arrest, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure used to maintain the heart and lungs functional simultaneously. The do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order prohibits CPR and is therefore legally required. Despite this, a DNR remains a delicate and contentious issue that places physicians in morally ambiguous situations.

Effectiveness of intra-thecal methotrexate in refractory Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor encephalitis.

Background: Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate "anti-NMDA" receptor encephalitis is one of the most common autoimmune encephalitis for which first- and second-line therapies have been recommended following international consensus. However, some refractory cases do not respond to the first- and second-line therapy and require further immune-modulatory therapies such as intra-thecal methotrexate. In this study, we reviewed six confirmed cases of refractory anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis from two tertiary centers in Saudi Arabia that required escalation of treatment and received a six-month course of intra-thecal methotrexate.

Hemiepiphysiodesis for juvenile hallux valgus deformity: A systematic review.

Background: Among the numerous surgical interventions for correcting hallux valgus deformity in skeletally immature patients, hemiepiphysiodesis is a simple technique with a low complication rate yet its effectiveness remains unclear. This systematic review evaluates hemiepiphysiodesis of the first metatarsal for treating juvenile hallux valgus (JHV) deformities with respect to radiological outcomes, postoperative clinical outcomes, and postoperative complications.

Methods: EMBASE, MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) database were searched from inception to September 15th, 2022, for studies investigating hemiepephysiodesis for JHV and its effect on clinical and radiological outcomes.

Evaluation of risk factors for recurrent renal stone formation among Saudi Arabian patients: Comparison with first renal stone episode.

Objectives: We evaluated the baseline characteristics, and risk factors of renal stone recurrence among Saudi Arabian patients after successful primary stone treatment.

Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional comparative study, we reviewed the medical records of patients who presented consecutively with a first renal stone episode from 2015 to 2021 and were followed-up by mail questionnaire, telephone interviews, and/or outpatient clinic visit. We included patients who achieved stone-free status after primary treatment.

COVID-19 Vaccine Acceptance and Hesitancy among Migrants, Refugees, and Foreign Workers: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Despite the effectiveness of current vaccines in reducing the spread and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infections, many people, including migrants, refugees, and foreign workers, are hesitant to be vaccinated. This systematic review and meta-analysis (SRMA) was conducted to determine the pooled prevalence estimate of the acceptance and hesitancy rates of the COVID-19 vaccine among these populations. A comprehensive search of the peer-reviewed literature indexed in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases was conducted.

Preferred surgical techniques for secondary intraocular lens implantation in adults with aphakia.
