This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the effect of the antioxidant alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) on various cardiometabolic risk factors and hormonal parameters in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We searched PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases without language restrictions until May 2023 to find randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that assessed the impact of ALA supplementation on anthropometric, glycemic, lipid, oxidative stress, and hormonal parameters in women with PCOS. Outcomes were summarized using the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) in a random-effects model.

Data on the role of CYP2D6 and CYP3A4/5 polymorphisms in relation to risperidone (RIS) pharmacokinetics (PK) in children are relatively limited and inconsistent. This is partially attributable to the limited coverage of CYP2D6 and CYP3A4/5 metabolizer phenotypes, particularly those of poor and ultrarapid metabolizers (PMs and UMs), which has led to calls for studies of populations with a non-European background that may carry variants that are less frequent in Europeans. Children ≤ 18 years old with at least 8 weeks of a RIS-based regimen were recruited from three autism centers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Prescription opioids, particularly for treating musculoskeletal pain, are a significant contributor to the opioid epidemic in North America. There is also evidence to suggest that chronic use of opioids is associated with poor outcomes after orthopedic surgery. However, whether this association is relevant in foot and ankle surgery is still unclear.
