Background: The Page kidney phenomenon, whilst a known condition, is in itself a rare entity. This report illustrates a case following partial nephrectomy which presented as post-operative renal failure.
Case Presentation: The authors present a case of renal cell carcinoma in a solitary kidney that after partial nephrectomy resulted in a subcapsular haematoma formation and acute renal failure.

Objectives: A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the gene encoding protein tyrosine phosphatase type 22 (PTPN22 620W) has recently been described as a strong common genetic risk factor for human autoimmune disease. We have analysed the association of PTPN22 620W in patients with Behçet's disease (BD).
Methods: Genomic DNA was obtained from 270 patients with BD from the UK and the Middle East.

Purpose: To investigate whether polymorphisms in the gene encoding the chemokine receptor CX3CR1, which has been linked to changes in functional ligand-binding activity, are associated with retinal vasculitis (RV) in a cohort of patients in the United Kingdom.
Methods: DNA was prepared from whole blood of 126 patients with RV and 95 healthy individuals by a standard salting-out procedure. Two polymorphisms, V249I and T280M, were analyzed by multiplex polymerase chain reaction-sequence-specific primers (PCR-SSPs).

Guy's 13 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes the major cell-surface adhesion protein SA I/II of Streptococcus mutans, one of the major causative agents of dental caries. Passive immunization with Guy's 13 prevents bacterial colonization in humans. To help elucidate the mechanism of prevention of colonization conferred by this antibody, the SA I/II epitope recognized by Guy's 13 was investigated.

This study examines the relative effectiveness of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) (ten sessions), fluoxetine (20 mg daily) and combined therapy (CBT plus fluoxetine) in women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). This was a randomized pragmatic treatment trial with three treatment cells. Treatment lasted for 6 months; a naturalistic follow-up was undertaken 1 year post-treatment.

As a consequence of the 1991 Gulf War and the ensuing UN sanctions, not only was the Iraqi government destroyed, but also the general infrastructure of the country was disrupted, with the civilian population and public services bearing much of the aftermath. Ten years after the war, the health system in Iraq is still in a perilous situation. The effects of sanctions have affected almost every aspect of medical care.

The capacity of CD8+ and CD4+ T cells and CD14+ monocytes to generate the CC chemokines, RANTES, MIP-1alpha and MIP-1beta, and SIV suppressor factors were studied using cells separated from PBMC of macaques immunized with the 70-kDa heat shock protein (HSP70). Unimmunized macaques showed low levels of the three CC chemokines and SIV-SF, and they showed little variation between PBMC and the two subsets of T cells stimulated with PHA. Immunization with HSP70 elicited an increase in the in vitro concentration of each of the three CC chemokines and SF.
