Unraveling the complexities of psoriatic arthritis by the use of -Omics and their relevance for clinical care.

Autoimmun Rev

November 2021

National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Faculty of medicine, Athens, Greece; Inflammation & Autoimmunity Lab, Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA), Athens, Greece.

-Omic technologies represent a novel approach to unravel ill-defined aspects of psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Large-scale information can be acquired from analysis of affected tissues in PsA via high-throughput studies in the domains of genomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, proteomics and metabolomics. This is a critical overview of the current knowledge of -omics in PsA, with emphasis on the pathophysiological insights of diagnostic and therapeutic relevance, the advent of novel biomarkers and their potential use for precision medicine in PsA.

Aortic involvement is relatively common in the context of IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD). It includes IgG4-aortitis, and IgG4-(chronic) periaortitis (IgG4-CP). The latter overlaps with IgG4-retroperitoneal fibrosis (IgG4-RPF).

Chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapies have now entered mainstream clinical practice with two approved autologous CAR-T products targeting CD19 and numerous other products in early and late phase clinical trials. This has led to a demand for highly sensitive, specific, and easily reproducible methods to monitor CAR-T cells in patients. Here we describe a flow cytometry based protocol for detection of allogeneic CAR-T cells and for monitoring their phenotype and numbers in blood and bone marrow of patients following CAR-T treatment.

Background: Enzalutamide and abiraterone acetate plus prednisone, which target the androgen receptor axis, have expanded the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Retrospective analyses suggest some cross-resistance between these two drugs when used sequentially, but robust, prospective studies have not yet been reported.

Objective: To fulfil a regulatory postregistration commitment by evaluating the efficacy and safety of enzalutamide in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) who progressed following abiraterone acetate plus prednisone treatment.

Background: Identifying and tackling the social determinants of infectious diseases has become a public health priority following the recognition that individuals with lower socioeconomic status are disproportionately affected by infectious diseases. In many parts of the world, epidemiologically and genotypically defined community-associated (CA) methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains have emerged to become frequent causes of hospital infection. The aim of this study was to use spatial models with adjustment for area-level hospital attendance to determine the transmission niche of genotypically defined CA- and health-care-associated (HA)-MRSA strains across a diverse region of South East London and to explore a potential link between MRSA carriage and markers of social and material deprivation.

"What Are You Thinking When You Look at Me?" A Pilot Study of the Use of Virtual Reality in Body Image.

Cyberpsychol Behav Soc Netw

February 2016

1 Psychological Medicine, Institute of Psychiatry , Psychology, & Neuroscience, King's College London, London, United Kingdom .

Body image disturbance (BID) is implicated in the etiology, maintenance, and relapse of the eating disorders, and remains challenging to treat. New paradigms such as virtual reality (VR) may offer an ecologically viable method to assess and treat BID. This pilot study aimed to determine if a VR environment could elicit increased BID in a nonclinical group of women who were dieting due to body image concerns or nonclinical women who were not dieting.

Osteo-cementum Producing Odontogenic Myxomas. A Literature Review of a Distinctive Variant.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Exeter, UK ; Flat 11, Gorse House, Medley Court, EX4 2QJ Exeter, UK.

Introduction: Odontogenic myxoma (OM) is a benign neoplasm of mesenchymal origin with growth characteristics, clinical behaviour and radiographic presentation similar to those of ameloblastoma. It is an intraosseous neoplasm characterized by stellate and spindleshaped cells embedded in loose myxoid or mucoid extracellular matrix. Although sometimes bony islands that represent residual trabeculae are found throughout the lesion, the formation of osteocement-like calcified spherules within the tumour is an extremely rare phenomenon.

Background: Gastroschisis (GS) is a congenital full-thickness defect of the anterior abdominal wall, whose incidence is increasing. Traditional postnatal management options include primary reduction and closure under general anaesthetic or operative silo construction for defects judged to be unsuitable for immediate repair. The cot-side application of the preformed silo (PFS) with delayed abdominal wall closure has recently been advocated as the management method of choice for infants with GS.

Objective: To investigate how dental implants impact on the oral health quality of life of people with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Background: PD is a progressive neurological disorder that can result in a number of oral health care challenges, including denture difficulties. Lack of evidence related to use of implants in PD prompted this study to investigate their use in this group of people.

Ultra-localization of Foxp3+ T cells within renal allografts shows infiltration of tubules mimicking rejection.

Am J Pathol

Department of Nephrology and Transplantation, King's College London School of Medicine at Guy's, King's Hospital, London SE1 9RT, UK.

Kidney transplant recipients are monitored for rejection by measurement of serum creatinine and graft biopsies. Biopsy samples are evaluated according to the Banff classification, which states that infiltration of tubules by mononuclear cells is an indicator of acute rejection. However, regulatory T cells play a crucial role in the overall immune response and are also present within transplanted tissue.
