Background: Tooth wear is a multifactorial condition, leading to the irreversible loss of dental hard tissues. The availability of an unambiguous, universally applicable assessment protocol remains lacking.
Objectives: The goal of the authors is to develop a set of diagnostic criteria for the assessment of tooth wear (DC-TW).

Statement Of Problem: Long-term clinical data are lacking on the comparison of the incidence of endodontic therapy in adhesively luted complete and partial coverage glass-ceramic restorations, as well as on the effect of technique and clinical variables.
Purpose: The purpose of this prospective clinical study was to assess the long-term incidence of teeth requiring endodontic therapy after receiving either complete or partial coverage glass-ceramic restorations.
Material And Methods: Participants requiring single anterior complete, posterior complete, or posterior partial (inlay or onlay) coverage restoration, or a combination of these on a vital tooth were recruited from a clinical private practice.

Objectives: To determine if superimposition of sequential scans can discriminate between different fluorides at step heights less than 5 μm on natural human enamel surfaces.
Materials And Methods: Natural, unpolished, human enamel specimens (n = 60) were randomly assigned to one of three pre-treatment toothpaste slurries with a calcium silicate/fluoride, fluoride-only and a control. Baseline and post treatment scans, from a non-contacting profilometer with a 0.

Within the mouth bacteria are starved of saccharides as their main nutrient source between meals and it is unclear what drives their metabolism. Previously oral biofilms grown in saliva have shown proteolytic degradation of salivary proteins and increased extracellular proline. Although arginine and glucose have been shown before to have an effect on oral biofilm growth and activity, there is limited evidence for proline.

Background: The Tooth Wear Evaluation System (TWES) is a type of tooth wear index. To date, there is the lack of data comparing the reliability of the application of this index on gypsum cast records and digital greyscale intra-oral scan records.
Objectives: A comparative evaluation between the use of gypsum cast records and digital greyscale intra-oral scan records with the reliability of tooth wear scoring using the TWES amongst a group of patients with tooth wear.

Statement Of Problem: Long-term clinical data on the survival of pressed lithium disilicate glass-ceramic when used with partial coverage restorations and the effect that different technical and clinical variables have on survival are sparse.
Purpose: The purpose of this clinical study was to determine the 10.9-year survival of pressed lithium disilicate glass-ceramic partial coverage restorations and associated clinical parameters on outcomes.

Objective: To investigate the impact of an e-training resource with the consistency of tooth wear scoring using the Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE).
Methods: Gold standard (GS) BEWE scores were attained from a trained examiner using the photographic and dental cast records for three conveniently selected cases representing low, medium and severe tooth wear. Four successive cohorts of first year post-graduate students, (n = 76, mean age, 35.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between levels of tooth wear scored using the Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE) and the impact on the quality of life of adult dental patients.
Methods: BEWE assessments were performed on 319 new dentate adult patients attending the practices of 5 trained recruiters based in primary care in Malta (120), Australia (118) or the UK (81). Oral impacts on the quality of life were measured using a shortened form of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-26).

Objectives: Controversy exists about whether the elastic modulus (E) mismatch between the loading indenter and ceramic materials influences fatigue testing results. The research hypotheses were that for porcelain veneered Y-TZP crowns 1) A low modulus Steatite indenter (SB) leads to higher fatigue reliability compared to a high modulus tungsten carbide indenter (WC); 2) Different surface damage patterns are expected between low and high modulus indenters after sliding contact fatigue testing. All ceramic crowns will exhibit similar step-stress accelerated life testing (SSALT) contact fatigue reliability (hypothesis 1) and failure characteristics (hypothesis 2) when using high stiffness tungsten carbide (WC, E = 600 GPa) vs.

Introduction And Objectives: Very little is known about the role of socioeconomic and psychosocial factors in predicting orthodontic treatment duration. Thus, this study aimed to test whether socioeconomic position (SEP) and psychosocial factors, namely, family environment and resiliency can predict orthodontic treatment duration.
Methods: Data were analysed from a hospital-based, prospective, longitudinal study that recruited 145 consecutively selected 12- to 16-year-old male and female adolescents.

Background: Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a rare autoimmune bullous disease predominantly affecting the oral mucosa. Optimal management relies upon thorough clinical assessment and documentation at each visit.
Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to validate the Oral Disease Severity Score (ODSS) for the assessment of oral involvement in MMP.

Oral biofilms have not been studied using both metabolome and protein profiling concurrently. Bacteria produce proteases that lead to degradation of functional salivary proteins. The novel protocol described here allows for complete characterisation of oral biofilms, including proteolytic, metabolic, and microbiome analysis.

Objectives: To determine the detection threshold of non-contacting laser profilometry (NCLP) measuring surface form and surface roughness change in natural human enamel in vitro, characterise how ambient scanning thermal variation affects NCLP measurement, and calculate bulk enamel loss in natural human enamel.
Methods: NCLP repeatability and reproducibility accuracy was determined by consecutively scanning natural human enamel samples with/without sample repositioning. Ambient thermal variation and NCLP sensor displacement over short (30 s), medium (20 min), and long (2 h) scanning periods were evaluated for their standard deviation.
