Introduction: Physician engagement is crucial for furthering patient safety and quality improvement within healthcare organizations. Medical Safety Huddles, which are physician-specific huddles, is a novel way to engage physicians with patient safety and may reduce adverse events experienced by patients. We plan to conduct a multi-center quality improvement (QI) initiative to implement and evaluate Medical Safety Huddles.

Institute of Developmental Neurophysiology, Center for Molecular Neurobiology, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, 20251, Hamburg, Germany.

The precise development of the neocortex is a prerequisite for higher cognitive and associative functions. Despite numerous advances that have been made in understanding neuronal differentiation and cortex development, our knowledge regarding the impact of specific genes associated with neurodevelopmental disorders on these processes is still limited. Here, we show that Taok2, which is encoded in humans within the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) susceptibility locus 16p11.

(1) Sleep disorders are prevalent in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients and predict cardiac events and prognosis. While increased oxidative stress (OS) has been associated with sleep disorders, less is known about its relationship with sleep quality. Similarly, little is known of how this relationship might change with exercise, which can improve sleep quality.

Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Shared or Unique Neurocognitive Profiles?

Res Child Adolesc Psychopathol

January 2023

Department of Psychiatry, The Hospital for Sick Children, Neurosciences and Mental Health, 555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON, M5G 1X8, Canada.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated neurocognitive performance differences in ADHD and ASD through comparisons of clinically and community-ascertained samples, revealing that both disorders exhibit impairments in response inhibition and sustained attention.
  • - When comparing clinical cases, ADHD and ASD showed longer stop-signal reaction times and reaction time variability than controls, but did not significantly differ from each other.
  • - Findings indicated that ADHD traits largely explained the neurocognitive impairments observed in individuals with ASD, suggesting that ADHD may account for the cognitive challenges faced by those with comorbid conditions, with results consistent across both clinical and community samples.

The purpose of this systematic review was to identify necessary key components of existing models of geriatric care serving rural or remote populations.

Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using MEDLINE, CINAHL and EMBASE databases to identify articles that described models of geriatric care serving rural or remote populations.

Here, we used observational data to search for differences in smoking cessation treatment outcomes associated with interactions between participant characteristics and different types and doses of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

Methods: We analyzed 33,077 enrollments in a large primary care smoking cessation program in Ontario, Canada.

Uveal melanoma is the most common intraocular malignancy and has a poor prognosis compared to other melanoma subtypes with a median overall survival of 6-10 months. With immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy, either PD-1 inhibitor alone or combination ipilimumab/nivolumab (anti-CTLA-4/anti-PD-1), responses are rare and often not durable. We present a case report of a now 66-year-old woman with diffuse metastatic uveal melanoma previously treated with a combination of ipilimumab/nivolumab, followed by maintenance nivolumab.

Background: The initiation of Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) results in rapid and profound hypogonadism, resulting in significant bone and muscle loss, increasing the risk for osteoporosis (OP), falls, and fractures. Despite this, there exist very low rates of guideline adherent care regarding bone health in this population. We developed and implemented a healthy bone prescription tool entitled BoneRx to facilitate the uptake of guideline-concordant bone health care into practice and increase patient awareness and promote the uptake of health bone behaviours (HBBs).

Centronuclear myopathy (CNM) is a congenital neuromuscular disorder caused by pathogenic variation in genes associated with membrane trafficking and excitation-contraction coupling (ECC). Bi-allelic autosomal-recessive mutations in striated muscle enriched protein kinase (SPEG) account for a subset of CNM patients. Previous research has been limited by the perinatal lethality of constitutive Speg knockout mice.

Frequency analysis of symptomatic worsening following ketamine infusions for treatment resistant depression in a real-world sample: Results from the canadian rapid treatment center of excellence.

Antidepressants are associated with symptomatic worsening in a subgroup of patients. Replicated evidence has demonstrated rapid and robust antidepressant effects with intravenous (IV) ketamine in treatment resistant depression (TRD); however, the risk of ketamine worsening depressive symptoms in a subgroup of patients remains unknown. Herein we report a retrospective analysis on the rates of symptomatic worsening during an acute course of IV ketamine in individuals with unipolar (n = 142) and bipolar (n = 22) TRD.
