Thermal ocular burns and evaluation of associated limbal stem cell deficiency in the light of global consensus.

Purpose: The aim of the present study is to examine the demographic data and clinical features of ocular surface injuries due to thermal burns and to evaluate LSCD in the light of global consensus.

Methods: Thirty-three eyes of 20 cases with ocular surface injury due to thermal burn who attended to the clinic between 2012 and 2023 were included in the study. LSCD severity was staged according to the global consensus which was published in 2019.

In an 81-year-old man, brain diffusion-weighted MRI revealed punctate high-intensity lesions in the bilateral frontal cortex. Three months later, these lesions had extended into the cerebral cortices. Six months after the original MRI, the patient developed cognitive decline.

Descriptive retrospective cross-sectional study of rehabilitation care for poststroke users in Québec during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: During the COVID-19 pandemic, designated rehabilitation centres were established in the province of Québec, where strict sociosanitary measures such as isolation and mandatory personal protection equipment requirements were followed. This study aimed to describe the impact of the pandemic on rehabilitation care indicators for poststroke users with (COV+) and without (COV-) COVID-19 infection in designated rehabilitation centres compared with those admitted in the previous year (pre-COV).

Method: A retrospective analysis of 292 medical files was performed in 3 rehabilitation centres.

Characterization of children with early onset pediatric multiple sclerosis.

Background: Early onset pediatric multiple sclerosis (EOPMS) provides an early window of opportunity to understand the mechanisms leading to MS.

Objective: To investigate clinical, laboratory and imaging differences between children with early onset pediatric MS (<11 years, EOPMS) and late onset pediatric MS (≥11 years, LOPMS).

Methods: Mostly prospectively collected data of children with MS including clinical presentation, MRI at onset, time to second relapse, relapse rate, treatment history, and CSF markers were eligible.

This study was conducted at 112 government and Juntendo University hospitals in February 2021 for the primary series of SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations. We compared the timing of solicited adverse event (AE) onset and prevalence of unsolicited AEs for Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca vaccines in a nationwide, large-scale prospective cohort study. The Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines were associated with a higher frequency of fever after the second dose than after the first dose.

Pancreatectomies with vein resection: Two large institutions' experience of East and West.

Background: The effectiveness and preferred reconstruction methods of pancreatectomy associated with vein resection (PAVR) for pancreatic cancer, especially for the extensive portal vein/superior mesenteric vein (PV/SMV) resections (more than 4 cm), are still subjects of debate. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and feasibility of PAVR by analyzing data from two large institutions from different regions.

Methods: From 2008 to 2018, we identified consecutive series of patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent PAVR at Karolinska University Hospital (KUH), Sweden, and Cancer Institute Hospital, Japanese Foundation of Cancer Research (JFCR), Japan.

[Measurement of Airborne Radioactivity in the Inpatient Room after Administering [Cu]Cu-ATSM to Patients].

Objective: [Cu]Cu-ATSM is a radiotherapeutics under clinical trials. It is necessary to take appropriate measures to limit its exposure and ensures its airborne concentrations do not exceed legally permitted levels. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to measure the airborne radioactivity concentration in the inpatient room after administering [Cu]Cu-ATSM to patients.

Silencing of O-GlcNAc transferase attenuated O-GlcNAcylation and metastatic potentials of melanoma cells through suppression of Akt-NFkB signaling pathway.

O-GlcNAcylation is an important biological process in regulating the function of many nucleocytoplasmic proteins in cells.  Enhancement of O-GlcNAcylation was associated with cancer development and progression.  Here, we demonstrated the involvement of O-GlcNAcylation in melanoma metastasis.

High implantation of a balloon-expandable valve above the left ventricular outflow calcification improves the prosthetic valve function without increasing complications: a case series.

Background: The initial outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement in patients with left ventricular outflow tract calcification are poor. Furthermore, balloon-expandable transcatheter aortic valve replacement is associated with an increased risk of annular rupture, and self-expandable transcatheter aortic valve replacement is associated with worse post-operative residual paravalvular leakage grades. Therefore, developing an optimal method for transcatheter aortic valve replacement for patients with left ventricular outflow tract calcification is desirable.

Sequential immunotherapy and bevacizumab treatments in glioblastoma multiforme: A case series and review of the literature.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a tumor with a high refractory rate to immunotherapy and a low tumor mutational burden phenotype, leading to limited immunogenic neoantigens. The present study aimed to investigate the sequential use of immunotherapy and bevacizumab in patients with GBM, exploring the clinical outcomes and potential complications. Patients received various combinations of immunotherapy and bevacizumab after standard treatment, including surgery, radiotherapy and temozolomide.

Second-line treatment patterns and outcomes in advanced HCC after progression on atezolizumab/bevacizumab.

Background & Aims: Atezolizumab/bevacizumab (A/B) is now a standard first-line treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the optimal second-line regimen is not known. We evaluated real-world treatment patterns and outcomes to investigate factors associated with post-progression survival (PPS).

Methods: In this multicenter, international, retrospective study, we examined clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with advanced HCC who progressed on first-line A/B.

Behavioural Changes of Late Talkers During the Covid-19 Pandemic, One Year Follow-Up From a Community Sample.

Aim: Global threats to child health and well-being, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, have put child development at grave risk. This study aimed to observe the behavioural changes of children with isolated language delays from a paediatric outpatient clinic as a community sample during the pandemic with a 1-year follow-up.

Methods: Patients admitted to the paediatrics outpatient clinic due to isolated language delays were included in the study.

Knee phenotypes distribution according to CPAK classification in Turkish population.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the distribution of knee phenotypes based on the CPAK classification in healthy nonarthritic subjects and osteoarthritic patients in Türkiye.

Methods: Radiological EOS analysis of nonarthritic 1172 knees and osteoarthritic 571 knees was evaluated to clarify the distribution of CPAK classification. The knees were categorized into 9 subgroups according to the arithmetic hip-knee-ankle (aHKA) angle and joint-line obliquity (JLO).

Simultaneous total hip and knee arthroplasties in hemophilic arthropathy: series of 5 cases.

Objective: This study aimed to compare preoperative and postoperative measures in haemophiliacs who had simultaneous total hip and knee arthroplasties.

Methods: A retrospective database search identified five patients with severe factor 8 deficiencies who underwent simultaneous hip and knee joint replacement surgery between 2002-2018. Preoperative and postoperative evaluations included Harris Hip Score (HHS), Knee Society Score (KSS), Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), range of motion, flexion contracture (FC), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), hip-knee angle, and leg length discrepancy.

What are the levels and interactions of neuroligin-1, neuroligin-3, and inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8) in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by deficits in social interaction, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors. Several genes, including synaptic proteins and environmental risk factors, play a role in the etiology of autism. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between neuroligin-1 (NLGN-1) and neuroligin-3 (NLGN-3) levels, which are neuronal cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), and inflammatory cytokine (IL-6, IL-8) levels with disease severity and symptom clusters and with each other in children with ASD.

Cardiac thrombus: can T1 and T2 mapping replace contrast enhanced images?

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs) and signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of pre- and postcontrast T1 maps, T2 maps, early and late gadolinium images in terms of visual assessment of cardiac thrombus, to see if maps can replace contrast-enhanced images for detection of cardiac thrombus.

Materials And Methods: T1, T2 maps, and postcontrast images of 22 patients with cardiac thrombus were retrospectively evaluated for SNR and CNR. SNR and CNR values of thrombus, blood pool, and myocardium measured at maps and contrast-enhanced images were compared with each other.

Results from the international collaborative systematic literature review informing the 2023 EULAR recommendations for the treatment of systemic sclerosis.

Background: The EULAR recommendations for the treatment of systemic sclerosis (SSc) were updated in 2017, informed by a systematic literature review (SLR) completed in 2014.

Objectives: The aim of this new SLR was to provide the most up-to-date literature to underpin contemporary EULAR recommendations for the management of SSc.

Methods: 30 searches for 30 interventions (including several outcomes/clinical questions), and 1 dedicated search (with several interventions) for calcinosis were prioritised by the task force.

This study examined the effect of lymphedema self-care patient school education on patient functionality, quality of life, body value, and lymphedema volume in patients with lower extremity lymphedema. The study utilized a single-group quasi-experimental design. The study sample included 21 patients with primary and secondary lower extremity lymphedema.

Importance: Clinical trials are vital for advancing cancer treatments and improving patient outcomes. Understanding the factors that influence participants' decision-making is critical for enhancing trial recruitment.

Objective: To evaluate the attitudes of patients with cancer and their relatives toward clinical trial participation, identifying key barriers and motivators that affect their willingness to engage in such trials.

Tricuspid regurgitation and outcomes in mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair.

Background And Aims: The association between periprocedural change in tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and outcomes in patients undergoing mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER) is unclear. This study aimed to examine the prognostic value of TR before and after M-TEER.

Methods: Patients in the OCEAN-Mitral registry were divided into four groups according to baseline and post-procedure echocardiographic assessments: no TR/no TR (no TR), no TR/significant TR (new-onset TR), significant TR/no TR (normalized TR), and significant TR/significant TR (residual TR) (all represents before/after M-TEER).
