Purpose: To describe a case of large arterial ring formed by a duplicate origin of the right middle cerebral artery (MCA) associated with a frontal branch arising from the superior channel of the ring (main MCA) using magnetic resonance (MR) angiography.
Methods: An 81-year-old man with spinocerebellar degeneration underwent cranial MR imaging and MR angiography using a 1.5-Tesla scanner.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the formation of α-synuclein (α-syn) aggregates, which lead to dopaminergic neuronal degeneration. The incidence of PD increases with age, and senescence is considered to be a major risk factor for PD. In this study, we evaluated the effect of senescence on PD pathology using α-synuclein preformed fibrils (PFF) injection model in senescence-accelerated mice.

Microglia, a type of immune cells of the central nervous system, play a critical role in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease (AD). Recently, efforts for drug discovery have focused on modifying the function of microglia to halt AD progression. One such effort targets a multifaceted kinase called receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1) that controls inflammation and cell death.

Pyogenic granuloma is a nonneoplastic inflammatory reactive hyperplasia commonly found in the soft tissues of the skin and oral mucosa. Oral pyogenic granulomas are usually found on the lips, gingiva, and tongue, but rarely on the palate. Surgical excision is the standard treatment for oral pyogenic granulomas.

Introduction: A technical qualification system was established by the Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgery in 2004, and its effectiveness in low anterior resection (LAR) has been reported. We herein performed a subgroup analysis of the effectiveness of the participation of technically qualified surgeons in laparoscopy-assisted high anterior resection (HAR), a procedure used for the technical qualification of surgeons.
Methods: The EnSSURE study enrolled 3188 patients who underwent laparoscopic rectal resection for rectal cancer between January 2014 and December 2016 at 56 Japanese hospitals.

We retrospectively evaluated the impacts of using granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and its timing on posttransplant outcomes for 9766 adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) between 2013 and 2022 using a Japanese database. We separately evaluated three distinct cohorts based on graft type: 3248 received bone marrow transplantation (BMT), 3066 received peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT), and 3452 received single-unit cord blood transplantation (CBT). Multivariate analysis showed that G-CSF administration significantly accelerated neutrophil recovery after BMT, PBSCT, and CBT.

Background: Multiple first-line treatment options have been developed for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in each subgroup determined by predictive biomarkers, specifically driver oncogene and programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) status. However, the methodology for optimal treatment selection in individual patients is not established. This study aimed to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based personalized survival prediction model according to treatment selection.

Nivolumab plus ipilimumab (NIVO+IPI) has a long-term response rate of 30% for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). However, 20% of patients develop primary resistant disease (PRD) to NIVO+IPI and show poor survival outcomes. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of PRD as a second-line treatment in patients with mRCC.

Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) causes fetal hydrops in pregnant women. Despite the significant impact of this virus, effective vaccines remain unclear. In this study, we successfully engineered B19V protein nanoparticles by fusing the N-terminal receptor-binding domain corresponding to 5-80 amino acids of VP1 with two distinct types of self-assembling protein nanoparticles.
