Numerous studies have reported a weekend effect on outcomes for diseases treated at hospitals. No study has been conducted in France for kidney transplantation. We therefore performed a cohort-based study to evaluate whether outcomes of kidney transplant recipients display a weekend effect.

Novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome virus (SARS-CoV-2) has become a global health care crisis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists immunocompromised patients, including those requiring immunosuppression following renal transplantation, as high risk for severe disease from SARS-CoV-2. Treatment for other viral infections in renal transplant recipients often includes a reduction in immunosuppression; however, no current guidelines are available recommending the optimal approach to managing immunosuppression in the patients who are infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Background: Evidence about the reliability of pre-implantation biopsy is still conflicting, depending on both biopsy type and pathologist's expertise. Aim of the study is to evaluate the agreement of general v specialist pathologists and to compare scores on biopsy and whole organs in a set of discarded kidneys.
Methods: 46 discarded kidneys were identified with their corresponding biopsies.

Background: Informing kidney transplant recipients of their prognosis and disease progression is of primary importance in a patient-centred vision of care. By participating in decisions from the outset, transplant recipients may be more adherent to complex medical regimens due to their enhanced understanding.
Methods: We proposed to include repeated measurements of serum creatinine (SCr), in addition to baseline characteristics, in order to obtain dynamic predictions of the graft failure risk that could be updated continuously during patient follow-up.

Background: Acute kidney injury is a treatable entity although difficult to recognize without diagnostic biopsy. We investigated the potential association between clinically defined deceased donors and acute kidney injury with preimplantation histological findings and recipient outcomes.
Methods: Kidney biopsies from donors were classified using the Acute Kidney Injury Network criteria and assessed for percentage glomerulosclerosis, tubular atrophy, interstitial fibrosis, and vascular narrowing with the Remuzzi score and for acute tubular necrosis.

Although the involvement of type 1 (IPR1) and type 2 (IPR2) inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors in apoptosis induction has been well documented in different cancer cells and tissues, the function of type 3 IPR (IPR3) is still elusive. Therefore, in this work we focused on the role of IPR3 in tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. We determined increased expression of this receptor in clear cell renal cell carcinoma compared to matched unaffected part of the kidney from the same patient.

Background And Objective: The use of trained kidney transplant recipients as patient navigators resulted in increased completion of the steps in the transplant process by dialysis patients. We sought to understand the experiences of these patient navigators.
Setting And Participants: Six kidney transplant recipients were hired and employed by transplant centers in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

This study analyzed the long-term outcomes of localized prostate cancer in renal transplant recipients after radiotherapy treatment - mainly brachytherapy. We retrospectively analyzed clinical data of renal transplant recipients between 2003 and 2016 at a single tertiary center, and identified four patients with high serum PSA level during regular follow-up, 1-108 months after primary renal transplantation. The mean age of patients with detected high serum PSA level with 9.

Purpose: To evaluate renal cell carcinoma (RCC) findings in acquired cystic disease of the kidney (ACDK) shown by C-choline and FDG PET/CT, and contrast-enhanced CT.
Materials And Methods: Six ACDK patients with 7 RCCs underwent C-choline and FDG PET/CT, and contrast-enhanced CT before nephrectomy. Findings obtained with 3 imagings were evaluated and sensitivity detecting RCC was compared using 3-point grading scale (negative, equivocal, positive).

Background: Conversion from calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) therapy to a mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor following kidney transplantation may help to preserve graft function. Data are sparse, however, concerning the impact of conversion on posttransplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) or the progression of pre-existing diabetes.
Methods: PTDM and other diabetes-related parameters were assessed post hoc in two large open-label multicenter trials.

Background: The management of malignancy post kidney transplantation includes reduction in immunosuppression and referral to an oncologist management of their malignancy. Recent advances in oncology have resulted in the approval of several classes of drugs with immune-modulatory activity. However, activation of the immune system against malignant cells may precipitate allograft rejection in solid organ transplant recipients.

Background: The clinical utility of screening biopsies (SBs) at 1 year post-transplantation is still debated, especially for stable kidney graft recipients. Given the heterogeneity in practices between transplantation centres, the objective of this study was to compare graft and patient survival of stable patients according to whether they were followed up in a transplantation centre with or without a policy for having an SB at 1 year post-transplantation.
Materials: From a French multicentre cohort, we studied 1573 kidney recipients who were alive with stable graft function at 1 year post-transplantation, with no acute rejection in their first year post-transplantation.

Surveillance biopsies after renal transplantation remain debatable. To drive the decision of such intervention, we propose a predictive score of abnormal histology at 1-year post-transplantation, named 1-year Renal Biopsy Index (1-RBI). We studied 466 kidney recipients from the DIVAT cohort alive with a functioning graft and a surveillance biopsy at 1-year post-transplantation.

Background: Knowledge about the expression and thus a role of enzymes that produce endogenous HS - cystathionine-β-synthase, cystathionine γ-lyase and mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase - in renal tumors is still controversial. In this study we aimed to determine the expression of these enzymes relatively to the expression in unaffected part of kidney from the same patient and to found relation of these changes to apoptosis. To evaluate patient's samples, microarray and immunohistochemistry was used.

HERAKLES was a 1-year randomized, multicenter trial. Patients were randomized at 3 months after kidney transplantation to remain on cyclosporine-based therapy, switch to everolimus without a calcineurin inhibitor (CNI), or switch to everolimus with low-exposure cyclosporine. Overall, 417 of 497 (83.

We estimated the subject-specific effect from a multivariable Cox model. We confirmed a 1.

Eradicating transplant tourism depends on complex solutions that include efforts to progress towards self-sufficiency in transplantation. Meanwhile, professionals and authorities are faced with medical, legal, and ethical problems raised by patients who return home after receiving an organ transplant abroad, particularly when the organ has been obtained through illegitimate means. In 2016, the Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group convened an international, multidisciplinary workshop in Madrid, Spain, to address these challenges and provide recommendations for the management of these patients, which are presented in this paper.

Background: Although kidney graft survival within 5 years after transplantation is now achieved in >95% of recipients, chronic graft deterioration remains a factor limiting long-term survival. Chronic nephrotoxicity induced by calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs) is one of the major causes of chronic graft injury; thus, minimization of CNIs by administration of everolimus (EVR) is expected to relieve their toxic effects.
Methods: Fifty-six kidney transplant recipients receiving CNI-based immunosuppression (tacrolimus, n = 34; cyclosporine, n = 22) were analyzed.

Background: Optimizing immunosuppressive treatment in the early posttransplant period is important for achieving long-term graft function and survival.
Material And Methods: There were 205 renal transplant recipients involved in this study. Patients were divided into groups according to the induction therapy (no induction vs basiliximab/daclizumab vs rabbit antithymocyte globulin), maintenance therapy at the time of transplantation (tacrolimus [TAC] vs cyclosporine), the average trough TAC levels in months 4 to 6 after TO and serum creatinine 5 years after renal transplantation.
