Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is prevalent globally with limited therapeutic drugs available. To systemically identify novel proteins involved in the pathogenesis of CKD and possible therapeutic targets, we integrated human plasma proteomes with the genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of CKD, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) to perform proteome-wide association study (PWAS), Mendelian Randomization and Bayesian colocalization analyses. The single-cell RNA sequencing data of healthy human and mouse kidneys were analyzed to explore the cell-type specificity of identified genes.

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common risk factor for sarcopenia. However, whether sarcopenia increases the risk of CKD remains unclear. To investigate the longitudinal and causal associations between possible sarcopenia and CKD, this study was performed.

Introduction: Circadian syndrome (CircS) is proposed as a novel risk cluster based on reduced sleep duration, abdominal obesity, depression, hypertension, dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia. However, the association between CircS and chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unclear. To investigate the cross-sectional and longitudinal association between CircS and CKD, this study was performed.

The Eurotransplant Senior Program (ESP) has expedited the chance for elderly patients with kidney failure to receive a timely transplant. This current study evaluated survival parameters of kidneys donated after brain death with or without matching for HLA-DR antigens. This cohort study evaluated the period within ESP with paired allocation of 675 kidneys from donors 65 years and older to transplant candidates 65 years and older, the first kidney to 341 patients within the Eurotransplant Senior DR-compatible Program and 334 contralateral kidneys without (ESP) HLA-DR antigen matching.

Background: Posttransplant fertility returns quickly, and female recipients of child-bearing age may conceive while on immunosuppression. However, pregnancy after transplantation confers risks to the recipient, transplant, and fetus, including gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, transplant dysfunction, preterm labor, and low birthweight infants. Additionally, mycophenolic acid (MPA) products are teratogenic.

Background: Available data suggest inhibition of the pancreatic local-renin-angiotensin system (RAS) reduces tissue complications of diabetes. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic seed extract of () (HESS) on the pancreatic local-RAS and its alternative pathway.
Methods: Three doses of HESS were orally administered to three groups of diabetic male Wistar rats, and the results were compared with both diabetic and healthy control groups.

Background: Patients waiting for a kidney transplant by far exceed available organs. AB0 incompatible living donor kidney transplantation (AB0i LDKT) represents an additional therapeutic strategy, but with higher risk for complications. We aimed at evaluating outcomes of AB0i LDKTs compared to compatible (AB0c) controls at our Institution.

Unlabelled: Timely recognition and treatment of acute kidney graft rejection is important to prevent premature graft failure. A predefined urinary marker set for acute T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR) containing 14 peptides was tested for this purpose in a multicenter in-place validation study.
Methods: Three hundred twenty-nine prospectively collected and 306 archived urine samples from 11 transplant centers in Germany, France, and Belgium were examined.

The Section Meeting for Ureteral Stent in Japanese Society of Endourology, Japan.
Objective: We validated the Japanese version of the ureteral stent symptom questionnaire in patients with an indwelling ureteric stent.
Methods: The English version of the ureteral stent symptom questionnaire was translated into Japanese using a multistep process by three urologists and two independent translators. A total of 70 patients with indwelling ureteral stents completed the Japanese ureteral stent symptom questionnaire, as well as validated instruments, namely, the International Prostate Symptom Score or Overactive Bladder Symptom Score and the EuroQoL 5-dimension questionnaires.

Background: In the setting of kidney transplantation, histopathology of kidney biopsies is a key element in the organ assessment and allocation. Despite the broad diffusion of the Remuzzi-Karpinski score on preimplantation kidney biopsies, scientific evidence of its correlation to the transplantation outcome is controversial. The main issues affecting the prognostic value of histopathology are the referral to general on-call pathologists and the semiquantitative feature of the score, which can raise issues of interpretation.

Background And Objectives: The fact that metabolism and immune function are regulated by an endogenous molecular clock that generates circadian rhythms suggests that the magnitude of ischemia reperfusion, and subsequent inflammation on kidney transplantation, could be affected by the time of the day.
Design, Setting, Participants, & Measurements: We evaluated 5026 individuals who received their first kidney transplant from deceased heart-beating donors. In a cause-specific multivariable analysis, we compared delayed graft function and graft survival according to the time of kidney clamping and declamping.

Background/aims: Long-term survival of liver transplant recipients is endangered by tumorigenesis at different sites. Little is known about primary de novo tumors developing in the graft.
Methods: We analyzed the follow-up data of 2731 liver recipients that were transplanted between 1988 and 2019 at our institution (Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Department of Surgery).

Background: Whilst there are a number of publications comparing the relationship between body mass index (BMI) of kidney transplant recipients and graft/patient survival, no study has assessed this for a French patient cohort.
Methods: In this study, cause-specific Cox models were used to study patient and graft survival and several other time-to-event measures. Logistic regressions were performed to study surgical complications at 30 days post-transplantation as well as delayed graft function.

Chronic kidney disease remains highly prevalent and exerts a heavy economic burden. The practice of nephrology has come a long way in managing this disease, though there remains room for improvement. The private domain, where more than half of the adult nephrology workforce operates, faces serious challenges.

The purpose of our benchmarking study was to describe the consequences in terms of practices in 6 transplantation centers of a French prospective cohort.
Methods: We included adult patients who received a first or second kidney graft between 2013 and 2019 (n = 4157).

The transplantation field requires the identification of specific risk factors associated with the level of immunosuppression. Here, our aim was to analyze the association between the number of circulating lymphocytes, monitored routinely by complete blood cell counts during outpatient visits, and patient and graft survival. In total, 2,999 kidney or combined kidney-pancreas recipients transplanted between 2000 and 2016, from two University hospitals, were enrolled.

Background: Access to kidney transplantation by uremic children is very limited due to the lack of donors in many countries. We sought to explore small pediatric kidney donors as a strategy to provide transplant opportunities for uremic children.
Methods: A total of 56 cases of single pediatric kidney transplantation and 26 cases of en bloc kidney transplantation from pediatric donors with body weight (BW) less than 10 kg were performed in two transplant centers in China and the transplant outcomes were retrospectively analyzed.

The transmission of cancer from a donor organ is a rare event but has important consequences. Aim of this systematic review was to summarize all the published evidence on cancer transmission in kidney recipients. We reviewed published case reports and series describing the outcome of recipients with donor-transmitted cancer until August 2019.

Background: Most studies comparing the efficacy of hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) versus static cold storage (SCS) are based on short-term outcomes. We aimed to better evaluate the mid-term impact of HMP in patients receiving expanded criteria donor (ECD) kidneys.
Methods: The analyses were based on the French Données Informatisées et VAlidées en Transplantation (DIVAT) observational cohort.
