Background: The pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is closely associated with the dysfunction of the intestinal epithelial barrier, leading to increased bacterial translocation, leukocyte infiltration, and mucosal injury, which may act as a pivotal or incipient event in the pathophysiology of the disorder. The primary objective of this study is to examine the key genes implicated in IBD and the perturbation of intestinal epithelial cell function.

Methods: The genes associated with ferroptosis were identified through the utilization of the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and the GeneCard database.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL) is a rare cancer more common in young women, typically treated with the R-EPOCH regimen, which can lead to high remission rates but struggles with relapses.
  • A case of a 31-year-old woman with relapsed PMBCL showed that switching to a PD-1 inhibitor combined with targeted therapy can achieve complete remission after previous treatments failed.
  • F-FDG PET/CT imaging effectively monitors the progression and response to treatment in PMBCL, making it essential for baseline assessments and follow-ups.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the risk of cardiovascular mortality (CVM) in older patients with Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), which has been overlooked in past research.
  • - Analyzing data from 2,899 older MCC patients, researchers found that 16% experienced CVM, making it the second leading cause of death, with the risk significantly higher than that of the general population.
  • - Key findings indicate that age at diagnosis and disease stage increase CVM risk, while chemotherapy and radiation may provide a protective effect, suggesting the need for cardiovascular health monitoring in high-risk MCC patients.

Aim: In this study, we aimed to establish a rat tooth movement model to assess miR-20's ability in enhancing the BMP2 signaling pathway and facilitate alveolar bone remodeling.

Method: 60 male SD rats had nickel titanium spring devices placed between their left upper first molars and incisors, with the right side serving as the control. Forces were applied at varying durations (18h, 24h, 30h, 36h, 42h, 1d, 3d, 5d, 7d, 14d), and their bilateral maxillary molars and surrounding alveolar bones were retrieved for analysis.

Background: Previous research has indicated that Victimization Experiences (VE) may be linked to a heightened likelihood of developing psychological symptoms and Internet Addiction (IA) among adolescents. However, the precise mechanism through which VE contributes to IA in adolescents remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate whether Social Anxiety (SA) serves as a mediation between VE and IA, utilizing the framework of General Strain Theory.

During assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment, the aged women, especially those over 35 years old, have fewer mature oocytes and poorer quality of the oocytes comparing with the young women. In vitro maturation (IVM) technology facilitates the usage of immature oocytes, which is clinically important for the aged women. However, the maturation rate is low for the oocytes from the aged women.

Clin Res Hepatol Gastroenterol

May 2024

Department of Endoscopy, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100021, China. Electronic address:

Esophageal cancer ranked ten of the most common cancers in China. With the advancement of high-quality endoscopy and chromoendoscopic technique, early esophageal cancer can be diagnosed more easily, even combined with esophageal-gastric fundal varices. Endoscopic resection of early esophageal cancer is a minimally invasive treatment method for early esophageal cancer, and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is one of the standard treatments for early esophageal cancer in view of the risk of bleeding, the patient in this study successfully received ESD treatment after using endoscopic variceal ligation and endoscopic injection of tissue glue and sclerosing agent before ESD surgery.
