Background And Objectives: Preterm infants need nutritional support due to their premature digestive system, undeveloped anatomy and functional limitations. Neonatal positioning in the proper position is one of the nurses' main principles that affect the residual volume. We performed our systematic review and network meta-analysis to determine the best feeding position for preterm infants in reducing gastric residual volume and increasing the rate of gastric emptying.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on bone marrow kinase (BMX), also known as endothelial tyrosine kinase (Etk), highlighting its importance in cancer-related processes such as cell proliferation, survival, and immune activation, while pointing out a lack of direct studies linking BMX to various cancers.
  • Using databases like TIMER, GEPIA, and UALCAN, the research analyzes BMX expression across multiple cancers and finds it significantly downregulated in breast, colon, and lung cancers, suggesting it could be a useful diagnostic biomarker.
  • The study also investigates the relationship between BMX expression and immune cell infiltration, revealing that higher BMX levels are linked with increased presence of immune cells, which may have implications for immunotherapy

Background: Embryonic stem cell-related gene (ESRG; also known as HESRG) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). It is involved in the regulation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) self-renewal. ESRG gene has the ability to interact with chromatins, different RNA types, and RNA binding proteins (RBP); thus making ESRG be considered an oncogenic lncRNA, where its expression is detected in various tumor tissues.

Kupffer cells dictate hepatic responses to the atherogenic dyslipidemic insult.

Nat Cardiovasc Res

March 2024

Department of Medicine Solna, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Center for Molecular Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Apolipoprotein-B (APOB)-containing lipoproteins cause atherosclerosis. Whether the vasculature is the initially responding site or if atherogenic dyslipidemia affects other organs simultaneously is unknown. Here we show that the liver responds to a dyslipidemic insult based on inducible models of familial hypercholesterolemia and APOB tracing.

Background: In terms of survival rate, recurrent oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) after primary surgery is considered as a poor prognostic indicator.

Objective: This study aims to determine the incidence of OSCC recurrence among patients treated at Khartoum Teaching Dental Hospital (KTDH) and possible risk factors associated with it.

Methods: Records of 303 patients with a history of radical surgery were retrieved from the hospital's archives, and the histopathological records were retrieved from the archival specimens of Professor Ahmed Suleiman Oral Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Dentistry, and University of Khartoum.

Background: Full pulpotomy has been proposed as an alternative to root canal treatment in teeth with signs and symptoms indicative of irreversible pulpitis (IRP), but the evidence is limited, relying on underpowered studies with a high risk of bias. The aim of this study is to conduct a prospective meta-analysis (PMA) of individual participant data of a series of individual randomised trials to provide robust evidence on the clinical and cost-effectiveness of pulpotomy compared with root canal treatment.

Methods: Individual participant data will be obtained from a series of randomised trials designed and conducted by a consortium of multi-national investigators with an interest in vital pulp treatment.

The DNA topoisomerase II (topo II) enzyme plays an important role in the replication, recombination, and repair of DNA. Despite their widespread applications in cancer therapy, new, selective, and potent topo II inhibitors with better pharmaceutical profiles are needed to handle drug resistance and severe adverse effects. In this respect, an array of 36 new anticancer compounds was designed based on a Xanthone core tethered to multifunctional Pyridine-amines and Imidazole scaffold alkyl chain linkers.

Background: Increasing grain nutritional value in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) is a paramount breeding objective, as is increasing drought resistance (DR), because sorghum is grown mainly in drought-prone areas. The genetic basis of grain nutritional traits remains largely unknown. Marker-assisted selection using significant loci identified through genome-wide association study (GWAS) shows potential for selecting desirable traits in crops.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of warm compresses in maintaining perineal integrity for women who had vaginal deliveries with a single baby in the head-down position.
  • Researchers performed a meta-analysis of 13 controlled trials involving 3,947 participants, comparing the outcomes of women who used warm compresses during delivery versus those who did not.
  • Results indicated that women who used warm compresses experienced significantly less perineal trauma, fewer episiotomies, and lower pain levels, suggesting that warm compresses can improve comfort during and after vaginal delivery.

Hepatic stellate cell activation markers are regulated by the vagus nerve in systemic inflammation.

Bioelectron Med

March 2023

Department of Medicine Solna, Laboratory of Immunobiology, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Center for Molecular Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Background: The liver is an important immunological organ and liver inflammation is part of the pathophysiology of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, a condition that may promote cirrhosis, liver cancer, liver failure, and cardiovascular disease. Despite dense innervation of the liver parenchyma, little is known about neural regulation of liver function in inflammation. Here, we study vagus nerve control of the liver response to acute inflammation.

In this study, a carboxylated carbon nanotube-grafted AgPO@AgIO (CNT-COO/AgPO@AgIO) composite was synthesized through an in situ electrostatic deposition method. The synthesized composite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The electron transfer ability of the synthesized composite was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).

The purpose of this research was to assess and utilize the bioactive compounds of garlic nanoparticles (Ga-NPs) as a natural antioxidant in sunflower oil (SFO) stored at 65 ± 1 °C for 24 days. The garlic nanoparticles (Ga-NPs) from the Balady cultivar were prepared, characterized, and added to SFO at three concentrations: 200, 600, and 1000 ppm (/), and they were compared with 600 ppm garlic lyophilized powder extract (Ga-LPE), 200 ppm BHT, 200 ppm α-tocopherol, and SFO without Ga-NPs (control). The QTRAP LC/MS/MS profile of Ga-NPs revealed the presence of four organosulfur compounds.

The Spike Protein of SARS-coV2 19B (S) Clade Mirrors Critical Features of Viral Adaptation and Coevolution.

Microorganisms

October 2022

Unit of Disease and Diversity, Department of Molecular Biology, Institute of Endemic Diseases, Khartoum University, Khartoum P.O Box 102, Sudan.

Pathogens including viruses evolve in tandem with diversity in their animal and human hosts. For , the focus is generally for understanding such coevolution on the virus spike protein, since it demonstrates high mutation rates compared to other genome regions, particularly in the receptor-binding domain (RBD). Viral sequences of the 19B (S) clade and variants of concern from different continents were investigated, with a focus on the A.
