Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common age-related neurodegenerative disease resulted from the progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the pars compacta region of substantia nigra. The goal of this study was to investigate the effects and mechanisms of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) HAGLROS on the apoptosis and autophagy in PD. The MPTP-induced PD mouse model and MPP-intoxicated SH-SY5Y cell model were established, and the expression levels of HAGLROS and miR-100 were determined.

Fluoxetine-mediated inhibition of endoplasmic reticulum stress is involved in the neuroprotective effects of Parkinson's disease.

Aging (Albany NY)

December 2018

Key-Disciplines Laboratory Clinical Medicine Henan, Department of Neurology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450052, Henan Province, China.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that Fluoxetine (FLX), an anti-depressant drug, has broad neurobiological functions and neuroprotective effects in central nervous system injury, but its roles in Parkinson's disease (PD) remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether fluoxetine attenuates rotenone-induced neurodegeneration in PD.

Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated to control, rotenone-treated, rotenone + FLX-treated and FLX-treated groups.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanism of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) prostate cancer antigen 3 (PCA3) in prostate cancer (PCa) via regulating the miR-218-5p/high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) axis.

Methods: The Cancer Genome Atlas database was used to divide differentially expressed lncRNAs, microRNAs, and messenger RNA (mRNAs). The mRNA expressions of lncRNA PCA3, miR-218-5p, and HMGB1 were determined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.

Infectious or septic shock is induced when a toxic microorganism invades blood circulation in the human body. Emergency operation is an effective method for treating infectious shock in the early stages although the use of anesthesia is more complex due to the internal disorders caused by the disease. This study explored the effects of propofol and etomidate anesthesia on the cellular immune function (T lymphocyte subpopulation) of infectious shock patients, aiming to provide a basis for the selection of the proper anesthetic method.

Severe multiple injury (SMI) can induce multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and easily result in complications, as well as having a high mortality rate. To explore the curative effect of continuous vena-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) in treating MODS and its effect on serum tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α interleukin (IL)-10 and nitric oxide (NO), we selected 200 patients who suffered from SMI and received treatment in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between April 2012 and April 2014 as research subjects. All patients were treated with CVVH.

Initial research on the relationship between let-7 family members in the serum and massive cerebral infarction.

J Neurol Sci

February 2016

Department of Neurology, First Affiliated Hospital, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Eighty-eight ischemic stroke patients with massive cerebral infarction (MCI) were studied to assess the impact of let-7f miRNA on inflammation and neurological function using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) during admission and after two weeks.
  • Sera samples were collected to analyze the expression levels of let-7f, IL-6, and other biomarkers, revealing that let-7f was significantly lower in MCI patients without hemorrhagic transformation (HT) and was linked to better GCS scores and lower hs-CRP levels.
  • The findings suggest that let-7f has a protective role against inflammation by inhibiting IL-6 expression, especially in patients with MCI without HT.

Objective: Tristetraprolin (TTP), also known as zinc finger protein 36, is an RNA binding protein that has a significant role in regulating the expression of mRNAs containing AU-rich elements. We postulated that TTP might regulate interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-18 expression in diabetes. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that the levels of TTP are correlated with nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Aim: Efficiently inhibiting the formation of macrophage foam cells is indispensable for mitigating and treating atherosclerosis. Tenascin-C (TN-C) plays an important role in promoting atherosclerosis; therefore, it is essential to inhibit foam cell formation associated with TN-C for controlling atherosclerosis. Activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) is one of the factors involved in regulating the complex process of foam cell formation.

Curcumin, the most active component of turmeric, has various beneficial properties, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor effects. Previous studies have suggested that curcumin reduces the levels of amyloid and oxidized proteins and prevents memory deficits and thus is beneficial to patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying curcumin's effect on cognitive functions are not well-understood.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor ameliorates learning deficits in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease induced by aβ1-42.

PLoS One

March 2016

Key-Disciplines Laboratory Clinical-Medicine of Henan, Zhengzhou, Henan, China; Department of Neurology, First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

An emerging body of data suggests that the early onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with decreased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Because BDNF plays a critical role in the regulation of high-frequency synaptic transmission and long-term potentiation in the hippocampus, the up-regulation of BDNF may rescue cognitive impairments and learning deficits in AD. In the present study, we investigated the effects of hippocampal BDNF in a rat model of AD produced by a ventricle injection of amyloid-β1-42 (Aβ1-42).

Recent studies have shown that microRNA (miR)-346 regulates the expression of glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3β and activates the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, which regulates the differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Here, we explored whether miR-346 was involved in high glucose-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition in mouse podocytes and examined the relationship between miR-346 and GSK-3β expression. The expression of miR-346 in podocytes was measured in the presence of different concentrations of glucose.

Promoter polymorphisms of SERPINE1 are associated with the antidepressant response to depression in Alzheimer's disease.

Neurosci Lett

May 2012

Key-Disciplines Laboratory Clinical-Medicine Henan, Department of Emergency, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, PR China.

Depression is one of the most frequent neuropsychiatric symptoms in Alzheimer's disease (AD). As the main regulator of the tissue plasminogen activator/brain-derived neurotrophic factor axis, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) is involved in the pathogenesis of both AD and depression. This suggests a potential role of the PAI-1 gene SERPINE1 in the development of AD-related depression and its response to antidepressant treatment.
