Treating burn lesions has always been challenging because any product should be cheap, accessible, and have anti-bacterial commodities and tissue regeneration properties. The green synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (GS-MgONPs) can create an optimal prospect that is safe with low toxicity in biological tissue and better safety for application while including the antibacterial effect. This recent study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of burn wound treatment using GS-MgONPs in rats.

Telomerase-based vaccines: a promising frontier in cancer immunotherapy.

Cancer Cell Int

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, Lahijan Branch, Islamic Azad University, Lahijan, Iran.

Telomerase, an enzyme crucial for maintaining telomere length, plays a critical role in cellular immortality and is overexpressed in most cancers. This ubiquitous presence makes telomerase, and specifically its catalytic subunit, human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), an attractive target for cancer immunotherapy. This review explores the development and application of telomerase-based vaccines, focusing on DNA and peptide-based approaches.

Article Synopsis
  • Spontaneous abortion (SA) is a common complication in pregnancy influenced by genetic factors and maternal nutrition.
  • A study analyzed 192 women with a history of SA versus 347 healthy women, examining the impact of dietary carotenoids and specific gene polymorphisms on the occurrence of SA.
  • The findings revealed that higher intake of β-cryptoxanthin might protect against SA only in women with the TT genotype of the related gene, while no significant links were found for other carotenoids.

Article Synopsis
  • Secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure is linked to various health issues and shows socioeconomic disparities, particularly among Iranian adults aged 35-65, with a higher prevalence in women (47.29%) compared to men (38.23%).
  • Using a concentration index, the study found that SHS exposure is disproportionately higher among low socioeconomic status (SES) individuals, with key contributing factors including female gender, low SES, marital status, and rural living conditions.
  • The findings highlight a pro-rich inequality in SHS exposure, suggesting that policy interventions should focus on supporting women, low-SES individuals, and married couples to effectively reduce this exposure.
