Background And Aims: Endometrial cancer (EC) and breast cancer (BC) are prevalent in women. Visfatin is an adipokine that, in addition to being involved in metabolism and inflammation, may also be interested in carcinogenesis. Visfatin measurement in cancer patients has shown that visfatin levels in cancer patients differed from those in healthy subjects.

Growing clinical evidence represented that certain dietary components are involved in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) development and progression. This research, therefore, aimed to evaluate whether there exists any relationship between nutrients and IBD. This case-control study from 2017 to 2019 was performed on 145 newly diagnosed IBD patients and 145 BMI-, sex-, and age-matched healthy controls who were recruited from a hospital clinic.

Energy restriction and manipulation of macronutrient composition of the diet are the main approaches that are used by people who aim to lose weight. When such strategies are employed, appetite and endocrine regulators of satiety, such as gut peptides, all are deeply affected. The gut microbiota-brain axis controls energy homeostasis in humans by affecting central satiety and gut peptides.

Article Synopsis
  • C-reactive protein (CRP) and cytokine levels can change in COVID-19 patients due to the virus's inflammatory response, prompting an analysis of their relationship.
  • A systematic review of 103 studies revealed that interleukin (IL)-10 shows a moderate correlation with CRP levels, with IL-10 explaining around 10% of the variability in CRP changes.
  • The findings suggest that understanding these inflammatory markers may help in developing treatments and prevention strategies, leading to recommendations for further research on CRP and cytokines in relation to COVID-19 progression and severity.

An ideal tissue-engineered dermal substitute should possess angiogenesis potential to promote wound healing, antibacterial activity to relieve the bacterial burden on skin, as well as sufficient porosity for air and moisture exchange. In light of this, a glass-ceramic (GC) has been incorporated into chitosan and gelatin electrospun nanofibers (240-360 nm), which MEFs were loaded on it for healing acceleration. The GC was doped with silver to improve the antibacterial activity.

A chemically diverse set of 13 5-nitrofuran-tagged heterocyclic compounds has been prepared via the Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé multicomponent reaction. The testing of these compounds against the so-called ESKAPE panel of pathogens identified an apparent lead compound--cyclohexyl-2-(5-nitrofuran-2-yl)imidazo[1,2-]pyridine-3-amine ()-which showed an excellent profile against and (MIC 0.25, 0.

Background: Indices, based on anthropometrics with or without non-anthropometric components, are predictive of cardio-metabolic outcomes. Fat mass index (FMI) is similar to BMI except measured fat mass replaces body weight. The visceral adiposity index (VAI) combines anthropometric measures with lipid measurements TG/HDL.

The miR-138-5p promoter-methylated DNA level, miR-138-5p and PDL1 expression were investigated in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. miR-138-5p promoter methylation status and miR-138-5p expression were investigated using the MethyLight and qPCR method, respectively. For measuring PDL-1, we applied the Bioassay Technology Elisa kit.

Steroid hormones, such as estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), 17β-ethinylestradiol (EE2) and estriol (E3) are a group of lipophilic active substances, synthesized biologically from cholesterol or chemically. A pH-switchable hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent-based liquid phase microextraction (DES-LPME) technique was established and combined with gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy for the determination of estrogenic compounds in environmental water and wastewater samples. A DES was synthesized using -menthol as HBA and (1)-(+)-camphor-10-sulfonic acid (CSA) as HBD, and used as a green extraction solvent.

Article Synopsis
  • - Researchers have noted that pemphigus foliaceus (PF), an autoimmune skin condition, can develop after a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
  • - Previously, there was only one documented case of PF linked to the use of Bamlanivimab, raising the possibility of it being a drug-related condition.
  • - This report introduces the first case of PF occurring solely due to COVID-19 infection, without any associated drug use.

Background And Aims: Older people have higher rates of comorbidities and may experience more severe inflammatory responses; therefore, are at higher risk of death. Herein, we aimed to systematically review the mortality in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients and its predictors in this age group.

Methods: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, and Science Direct using relevant keywords.

There is evidence to support the hypothesis that dietary antioxidants have shown protective effects against chronic kidney disease (CKD). The purpose of this study was to determine the association between the dietary total antioxidant capacity (DTAC), renal function, and development of CKD and kidney stones in Ravansar Non-Communicable Diseases (RaNCD) cohort study, Kermanshah, Iran. This cross-sectional study was conducted using the recruitment baseline data of the RaNCD cohort study on 9,777 individuals aged 35-65 years.

In the present research, several novel and natural hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were prepared using methyltrioctylammonium chloride (MTOAC) as the hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) and different types of straight chain alcohols as hydrogen bond donors (HBDs). One of the DESs composed of MTOAC and -butanol was advantageously used to develop a vortex-assisted liquid phase microextraction (VALPME) method combined with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV) for the determination of common acaricides in fruit juice samples. Several important parameters influencing extraction efficiency were investigated and optimized, including the type and volume of DES, sample solution pH, effect of salt addition and, extraction and vortex time.
