Unlabelled: The Alzheimer's disease (AD) research community continues to make great strides in expanding approaches for early detection and treatment of the disease, including recent advances in our understanding of fundamental AD pathophysiology beyond the classical targets: beta-amyloid and tau. Recent clinical trial readouts implicate a variety of non-amyloid/non-tau (NANT) approaches that show promise in slowing cognitive decline for people with AD. The Alzheimer's Association Research Roundtable (AARR) meeting held on December 13-14, 2022, reviewed the current state of NANT targets on underlying AD pathophysiology and their contribution to cognitive decline, the current data on a diverse range of NANT biomarkers and therapeutic targets, and the integration of NANT concepts in clinical trial designs.

The STAT3 pathway promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition, migration, invasion and metastasis in cancer. STAT3 upregulates the transcription of the key epithelial-mesenchymal transition transcription factor SNAIL in a DNA binding-independent manner. However, the mechanism by which STAT3 is recruited to the SNAIL promoter to upregulate its expression is still elusive.

Empathy plays a crucial role in promoting older adults' interpersonal experiences, but it remains unclear how these benefits of empathy occur. To address this gap, we examined associations between empathy and how older adults behave and express emotions during their daily interpersonal encounters. Participants included 268 adults aged 65+ (46% men, n = 124) from the Daily Experiences and Well-being Study.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to permanent motor and sensory loss that is exacerbated by intraspinal inflammation and persists months to years after injury. After SCI, monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) infiltrate the lesion to aid in myelin-rich debris clearance. During debris clearance, MDMs adopt a proinflammatory phenotype that exacerbates neurodegeneration and hinders recovery.

Rapid and strategic cell placement is necessary for high throughput tissue fabrication. Current adhesive cell patterning systems rely on fluidic shear flow to remove cells outside of the patterned regions, but limitations in washing complexity and uniformity prevent adhesive patterns from being widely applied. Centrifugation is commonly used to study the adhesive strength of cells to various substrates; however, the approach has not been applied to selective cell adhesion systems to create highly organized cell patterns.

The COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdown disrupted daily life and was related to increased mental health problems across the developmental spectrum, including for emerging adults. Understanding factors that contribute to adjustment during such national crises is critical, and attachment theory may provide a valuable framework for doing so. In the current study, 441 U.

The primary objective of the study was to examine associations between financial stress and self-rated health (mental and physical), with presence of and search for meaning in life as moderator variables. The secondary objective was to examine the association between presence of meaning and self-rated health, with search for meaning as a moderator. The sample included 166 emerging adults (ages 18-32, mean age 22.

IgE-mediated opioid hypersensitivities, or true allergies, are rare and most adverse reactions to opioids can be attributed to side effects or to pseudo-allergies. Given that immune-mediated allergies to opioids are uncommon, literature regarding cross-reactivity among opioid classes are limited. This retrospective study aimed to determine the rates of cross-reactivity and tolerance among patients with previously documented opioid allergy or adverse drug reaction (ADR) across three opioid drug classes (natural, semisynthetic, and synthetic opioids).

Treating substance use disorders is difficult as individuals often resume substance use during abstinence. One potential factor contributing to the recurrence of substance use is incubation of drug craving. Specifically, individuals report higher levels of craving when presented with drug-paired stimuli across abstinence, although this effect is largely absent in opioid-dependent individuals.

The current study examines mother and father PPD as a risk factor for child emotion regulation difficulties. A model was tested in which parent depression and parent emotion socialization of children were serial intervening variables. Parent emotion socialization was assessed via parent self-reported supportive and nonsupportive reactions to child negative emotions.

Most of the drugs that we use in our everyday clinic cause ocular side effects or toxicity, depending on the drug duration and dose. Eye care physicians should be familiar with any possible ocular side effects linked to these medications, which could save the physicians' time to determine the diagnosis of the ocular irritation or toxicity. Not all medications are listed in this review, but we did go over the most common systemic medications based on our experience seeing patients in our everyday clinic.

Introduction: This study uses the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, and Sustainment (EPIS) model to retrospectively describe the mail-based overdose education and naloxone distribution (OEND) program developed in collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) for use in the HEALing Communities Study in Kentucky (HCS-KY) and details the reach of this innovative delivery model.
Methods: HCS-KY is a community-engaged cluster-randomized trial assessing the effects of implementing evidence-based practices, including OEND, on overdose death reduction across 16 communities highly impacted by the opioid epidemic in Kentucky. The study launch coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Significance: Cellular metabolism is highly dynamic and strongly influenced by its local vascular microenvironment, gaining a systems-level view of cell metabolism is essential in understanding many critical biomedical problems in a broad range of disciplines. However, very few existing metabolic tools can quantify the major metabolic and vascular parameters together in biological tissues with easy access.
Aim: We aim to fill the technical gap by demonstrating a point-of-care, easy-to-use, easy-to-access, rapid, systematic optical spectroscopy platform for metabolic and vascular characterizations on biological models to enable scientific discoveries to translate more efficiently to clinical interventions.

Anti-Aβ immunotherapy use to treat Alzheimer's disease is on the rise. While anti-Aβ antibodies provide hope in targeting Aβ plaques in the brain there still remains a lack of understanding regarding the cellular responses to these antibodies in the brain. In this study we sought to identify acute effects of anti-Aβ antibody on immune responses.

Introduction: Diffusion tensor image analysis along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) index was proposed for assessing glymphatic clearance function. This study evaluated DTI-ALPS as a biomarker for cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) related vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID).
Methods: Four independent cohorts were examined.
