Spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage is a rare condition with a poor prognosis. It is usually treated conservatively unless vital signs are unstable. We report a case of a 60-year-old male patient with acquired cystic kidney disease who presented to ED due to continuous left lower abdominal pain.

Introduction: The impact of rotational angle between the femoral and tibial components is often overlooked in the 2D evaluation of varus/valgus stability after TKA with anterior-posterior knee X-rays. The rotation angle between the femoral and tibial components may influence the measured angle and distance between these components in 2D stress X-rays following TKA.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the rotational angle between the femoral and tibial components on the evaluation of varus/valgus stability using stress X-rays following total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Introduction: Patient satisfaction with two teriparatide (TPTD) self-injection regimens [once-daily (1/D)-TPTD and twice-weekly (2/W)-TPTD] was compared in a randomized crossover study involving patients with osteoporosis at high fracture risk.

Materials And Methods: Questionnaires evaluated overall satisfaction, satisfaction with treatment effectiveness, satisfaction with utility of the self-injection device, and preference for a particular injection regimen after crossover. Quality of life (QOL), visual analogue scale pain scores, and bone mineral density (BMD) were also analyzed.

Excess fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), a mature osteocyte-derived phosphaturic hormone, causes chronic hypophosphatemic osteomalacia in adults. This rare condition was recently reported in 2 alcoholic patients, with marked improvement upon cessation of alcohol consumption, suggesting a link between alcohol and FGF23-related hypophosphatemia within the highly limited cases. This study aimed to investigate whether the source of excess FGF23 in alcohol-induced FGF23-related hypophosphatemic osteomalacia is the bone or the other organs.

Intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP) is a promising biomarker for small-bowel ischemia including non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI). A 75-year-old woman with diabetic nephropathy sustained a distal radius fracture. Two days later, she underwent a brachial plexus block to facilitate orthopedic surgery, which resulted in hypotension.

Patellar tendon rupture is a severe complication following total knee arthroplasty. We encountered a case of rheumatoid arthritis with an incomplete rupture of the patellar tendon post-total knee arthroplasty. An 84-year-old woman was diagnosed with an incomplete rupture of the right patellar tendon 3 months post-total knee arthroplasty of her right knee.

Article Synopsis
  • Imatinib is the main treatment for unresectable and metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), with a study tracking 70 patients who received this therapy from 2001 to 2023.
  • The study found that survival rates decreased over time, with only 12.2% of patients surviving 20 years, and most deaths were due to GIST progression.
  • Despite initial effectiveness, patients continued to face a risk of disease progression even after 10 years of treatment, emphasizing the need for long-term monitoring and care.

Introduction: This study aimed to compare treatment satisfaction with two dosing regimens (two teriparatide [TPTD] self-injection systems) in osteoporosis patients at high risk of fracture.

Materials And Methods: In this open-label crossover randomized trial comparing self-injected once-daily (1/D)-TPTD with self-injected twice-weekly (2/W)-TPTD, three satisfaction variables were evaluated by questionnaire for 2 years. The primary endpoint was overall satisfaction and secondary endpoints were satisfaction with treatment effectiveness and with utility of the self-injection device.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates the in vivo dynamics of mobile medial pivot-type total knee arthroplasty (MMPTKA) during both weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing activities, aiming to improve understanding of knee mechanics after surgery.
  • - Ten knees undergoing MMPTKA were analyzed through radiographs taken under anesthesia and through motion observation during squatting, revealing significant differences in knee kinematics between relaxed and active states.
  • - Results indicate that the kinematics of the knee components are greatly affected by muscle contractions and loading, highlighting the femoral component's considerable posterior translation and external rotation during anesthesia, which aids in achieving a better range of motion post-surgery.
