Background: RefluxStop is a unique implant for laparoscopic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It restores normal function of the gastroesophageal junction without the unwanted effects of encircling the esophagus, circumventing adverse events (AEs) associated with conventional anti-reflux surgeries.
Methods: Three-year follow-up of 50 patients with chronic GERD treated by RefluxStop was achieved in a prospective, single-arm, multicentric clinical trial analyzing safety and effectiveness of the procedure.

Interaction of the long control region (LCR) and the E2 protein of HPV11s was studied by in silico modelling and in vitro functional analysis. Genomes of HPV11s from fifteen (six known and nine novel) patients (two solitary papillomas, eleven respiratory papillomatoses of different severity, one condyloma acuminatum and one cervical atypia) were sequenced; E2 polymorphisms were analysed in silico by protein modelling. E2 and LCR variants were cloned into pcDNA3.

Diagnosis of rare bleeding disorders is challenging and there are several differential diagnostics issues. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is a useful tool to overcome these problems. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the usefulness of molecular genetic investigations by summarizing the diagnostic work on cases with certain bleeding disorders.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, high-grade, aggressive cutaneous neuroendocrine malignancy most commonly associated with sun-exposed areas of older individuals. A relatively newly identified human virus, the Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of MCC. Our study aimed to examine nine MCC cases and randomly selected 60 melanoma cases to identify MCPyV status and to elucidate genetic differences between virus-positive and -negative cases.

Inventor of RefluxStop™, Seehof 4b, 6072, Sachseln, Switzerland.
Background: RefluxStop™ is an implantable, non-active, single use device used in the laparoscopic treatment of GERD. RefluxStop™ aims to block the movement of the LES up into the thorax and keep the angle of His in its original, anatomically correct position. This new device restores normal anatomy, leaving the food passageway unaffected.

After months of restrictive containment efforts to fight the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) epidemic, European countries are planning to reopen. To support the process, we conducted a cross-sectional survey among the Hungarian population to estimate the prevalence of infectious cases and prior SARS-CoV-2 exposure. A representative sample (n = 17,787) for the Hungarian population of 14 years or older living in private households (n = 8,283,810) was selected.

Objective: The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Node (N) classification is the most common used staging method for the prognosis of gastric cancer. It demands adequate, at least 16 lymph nodes (LNs) to be dissected; therefore different staging systems were invented.
Methods: Between March 2005 and March 2010, 164 patients were evaluated at the Department of General Surgery in the Kenézy Gyula Hospital and at the Department of General, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery in the Kaposi Mór Hospital.

Rheumatoid arthritis, in common with other systemic autoimmune diseases, can involve several other organs presenting with complex immunological manifestations. Immune thrombocytopenic purpura caused by an autoimmune reaction against platelets is an infrequent haematological complications. A female patient with rheumatoid arthritis rapidly developed extremely severe immune thrombocytopenic purpura upon suspending oral corticosteroid therapy.

Objectives: The use of self-expandable plastic stents has offered a reasonable alternative of self-expandable metal stents in palliative treatment of esophageal malignancies, in the recent years. Studies and clinical data on the use of self-expandable plastic stents in esophageal cancer are, however, available in a very limited number. Here, we present the results of our 3-year study designed to evaluate the efficacy of self-expandable plastic stents in palliation of advanced esophageal carcinoma.
