Since nail psoriasis restricts the patient's daily activities, therapeutic intervention based on reliable and reproducible evaluation is critical. The Nail Psoriasis Severity Index (NAPSI) is a validated scoring tool, but its usefulness is limited by interobserver variability. This study aimed to develop a reliable and accurate NAPSI scoring tool using deep learning.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been widely used in therapeutic applications for many decades. However, more and more evidence suggests that factors such as the site of origin and pre-implantation treatment have a crucial impact on the result. This study investigates the role of freshly isolated MSCs in the lacrimal gland after allogeneic transplantation.

Central nervous system (CNS) involvement, including encephalopathy, encephalitis, leptomeningitis, and pachymeningitis, in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is rather rare. We report the case of a 61-year-old female with a history of RA in remission for 7 years, who presented with numbness, weakness of the left upper limb, dysarthria, and headache. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain showed meningeal enhancement in the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes.

Introduction: Research has made progress in organ fabrication using an extracellular matrix, cell sheets, or organoids. Human liver tissue has been constructed using a 3-dimensional (3D) bioprinter and showed evidence that an in vitro generated liver bud was reformed in a rodent liver model. This study describes the stages of development of rat fetal organs and liver structure and reviews recent progress in liver organoid transplantation.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to clarify the influence of social interaction on the effect of a cognitive intervention program using Go.
Methods: A single-blind, randomized controlled trial using a classical board game "Go" was conducted. A total of 72 community-dwelling older adults, without previous experience playing Go, were randomly assigned to three groups: (1) a face-to-face group (FG) in which members attended 12 Go group lessons held once a week; (2) a non-face-to-face group (NFG) in which members individually underwent the same Go lessons as the FG using a tablet computer; or (3) a health education control group (CG).

With advances in transplantation technology and supportive care practices, hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) has become relatively safer and the applicability of HCT continues to expand. However, appropriate selection of transplant candidates remains challenging. Identifying adult patients who may benefit from HCT involves consideration of patient and disease factors, including overall health, prior therapies, age, comorbidity, and disease/disease risk.

The dermal papilla (DP) is a specialised mesenchymal component of the hair follicle (HF) that plays key roles in HF morphogenesis and regeneration. Current technical difficulties in preparing trichogenic human DP cells could be overcome by the use of highly proliferative and plastic human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). In this study, hiPSCs were differentiated into induced mesenchymal cells (iMCs) with a bone marrow stromal cell phenotype.

Docetaxel chemotherapy for metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer patients has been thought palliative because the radiological response rate is low and durable response is rare. The patient was a 64-year-old man who was diagnosed with cT3aN0M0 prostate cancer and underwent external beam radiation therapy as the initial treatment. He underwent androgen deprivation therapy and 8 cycles of docetaxel chemotherapy.

Cytomegalovirus pneumonia should be considered in cases with deterioration after initiating PCP treatment; multiple nodular lesions are useful findings for the diagnosis.

The aim of reproductive medicine is to support the birth of healthy children. Advances in assisted reproductive technologies and genetic analysis have led to the introduction of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) for embryos. Indications for PGD have been a major topic in the fields of ethics and law.

Recent clinical studies have raised the clinically important question of the relationship between dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and prostate cancer (PCa) progression. The significance of DHT or 5α-reductase inhibitors (5ARI) in PCa development and progression has not yet been fully characterized. The aim of this study was to determine whether the initiation of DNA replication was influenced by DHT in PCa.

Advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains an incurable disease, and newer anticancer drugs are needed. Bisebromoamide, a novel cytotoxic peptide, was isolated from the marine cyanobacterium Lyngbya species at our laboratory in 2009. This compound specifically inhibited the phosphorylation of ERK in platelet-derived growth factor-activated normal rat kidney cells.

To achieve a successful pregnancy in humans, sperm is required for capacitation, followed by binding to and entry into an oocyte. Maternal endometrial epithelial cells (EECs) prepare the appropriate implantation environment through regulation of immune cells and endometrial cells. After acquiring endometrial receptivity, a successful pregnancy consists of complex and finely regulated steps involving apposition, adhesion, invasion, and penetration.

Genistein and curcumin are major components of Asian foods, soybean and curry turmeric respectively. These compounds have been intensively investigated for their chemical and biological features conferring their anti-cancer activity. Genistein and curcumin have also been investigated for their potentiation effects on disease-associated CFTR mutants such as ΔF508 and G551D.

Increasing evidence demonstrates that members of the sirtuin family, most of which work as NAD(+)-dependent protein deacetylases, mediate the preferable effects of caloric restriction. Since mitochondria play a central role in cardiac reactive oxygen species production, targeted modification of mitochondrial proteins and subsequent improvement in mitochondrial function have the potential for controlling cardiovascular senescence and managing cardiovascular diseases such as ischemia/reperfusion. We showed that caloric restriction primes cardiac mitochondria for ischemic stress by deacetylating specific mitochondrial proteins of the electron transport chain.

The purpose of the present study was to compare the effects of alendronate (ALN) and alfacalcidol (ALF) on the femoral bone mass and bone strength in orchidectomized rats and to clarify the skeletal benefits of combined administration of ALN and ALF. Fifty male Sprague-Dawley rats, 3 months of age, were randomized by the stratified weight method into five groups: the age-matched control (CON), orchidectomy (ORX), ORX + ALN (2.5 microg/kg, s.

Recent studies for SN mapping of esophageal and gastric carcinoma show that the SN concept is valid even for upper GI cancers with multidirectional and complicated lymphatic flow. The relatively high incidence of anatomic skip metastasis can be attributed to aberrant distribution of SNs. An individualized and minimally invasive surgical approach can be applicable to management of esophageal and gastric carcinoma based on SN status.
