Background: Fast-track surgery (FTS) is a modern nursing approach that has gained popularity in the perioperative phase of surgery.

Aim: To investigate the impact of FTS on perioperative care for hepatobiliary surgery.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 98 patients who underwent hepatobiliary surgery and were admitted to our hospital from August 2021 to October 2023.

Objective: To explore the role and mechanism of metformin (MET) in regulating myocardial injury caused by cardiac ischemia-reperfusion.

Material And Methods: A rat model of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury was established by ligation of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery. The myocardial area at risk and the infarction size were measured by Evans blue and 2,3,5‑triphenyltetrazole chloride (TTC) staining, respectively.

Objective: Glioblastomas are highly vascularized malignant tumors. We determined the efficacy and safety of the anti-angiogenic multi-kinase inhibitor, anlotinib, for a newly diagnosed glioblastoma.

Methods: This multicenter, single-arm trial (NCT04119674) enrolled 33 treatment-naïve patients with histologically proven glioblastomas between March 2019 and November 2020.

Objective: This research was devoted to estimate the outcome of preventive nursing intervention on venous thromboembolism (VTE) after varicose vein surgery in lower extremities.

Methods: A total of 516 subjects with varicose veins of lower extremities (from January 2020 to January 2022) treated in our hospital were separated into observation subgroup (n = 258) and control subgroup (n = 258) at random. The conventional nursing intervention was applied in the control subgroup, preventive nursing intervention, prophylactic anticoagulation and the use of Caprini score was applied in the observation subgroup.

Accurate segmentation of the medical image is the basis and premise of intelligent diagnosis and treatment, which has a wide range of clinical application value. However, the robustness and effectiveness of medical image segmentation algorithms remains a challenging subject due to the unbalanced categories, blurred boundaries, highly variable anatomical structures and lack of training samples. For this reason, we present a parallel dilated convolutional network (PDC-Net) to address the pituitary adenoma segmentation in magnetic resonance imaging images.

Disparity in Lung Cancer Screening Among Smokers and Nonsmokers in China: Prospective Cohort Study.

JMIR Public Health Surveill

March 2023

Office of Cancer Screening, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening effectively reduces lung cancer mortality in smokers, but its impact on nonsmokers is less understood.
  • A study conducted in Zhejiang Province, China, evaluated LDCT screening among smokers and nonsmokers who were considered high-risk for lung cancer based on an established risk score model.
  • Results showed higher screening rates and a greater detection of early-stage lung cancer among nonsmokers compared to smokers, with LDCT screening significantly increasing lung cancer incidence in smokers while decreasing lung cancer mortality.

Development of a tongue image-based machine learning tool for the diagnosis of gastric cancer: a prospective multicentre clinical cohort study.

EClinicalMedicine

March 2023

Department of Gastric Surgery, The Cancer Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Zhejiang Cancer Hospital), Institutes of Basic Medicine and Cancer (IBMC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hangzhou, 310022, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Tongue images and coating microbiome characteristics, which reflect overall body health in traditional Chinese medicine, were analyzed to diagnose gastric cancer (GC) in a substantial study involving over 1,200 participants.
  • Researchers utilized AI deep learning models to assess the diagnostic potential of these tongue features, with promising results showing high accuracy rates via area under the curve (AUC) metrics: 0.89 for tongue images and 0.94 to 0.95 for microbiome data.
  • The findings suggest that tongue images and microbial analysis can be effective diagnostic tools for GC, marking a significant advancement in non-invasive cancer diagnosis methods.

Background: Pneumonia is a severe respiratory disease in both children and elderly people and is commonly accompanied with inflammation and lung injury. In this study, we sought to examine the expression and function of serum amyloid A-like 1 (SAAL1) in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated pneumonia model.

Methods: An LPS-stimulated mouse model and A549 lung cell model were established to examine the effects of SAAL1 in pneumonia.

To analyze the results of liver cancer screening for urban residents in Zhejiang Province from 2013 to 2018 and explore the influencing factors of the detection rate. From September 2013 to August 2019, six urban communities in Hangzhou (Jianggan District and Gongshu District), Ningbo (Haishu District, Yinzhou District and Jiangbei District), and Quzhou (Kecheng District) were selected as study sites. All permanent residents aged 40-74 (with local household registration and living in the local area for more than 3 years) were selected as the research subjects by using cluster sampling method.

To analyze the results and cost-effectiveness of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening program among Zhejiang urban residents so as to provide evidence for further optimization of CRC screening strategies. Based on the Cancer Screening Program in Urban China which was conducted in Zhejiang province from 2013-2018, data related to the rates on compliance and detection through the CRC screening program among the 40-74 year-old residents were analyzed. Chi-square tests were used to compare the differences among groups, and multivariate logistic regression models were applied to explore the potential risk factors.

Study Question: Can avian influenza A (H7N9) virus be transmitted between unrelated individuals in a hospital setting?

Methods: An epidemiological investigation looked at two patients who shared a hospital ward in February 2015, in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Samples from the patients, close contacts, and local environments were examined by real time reverse transcriptase (rRT) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and viral culture. Haemagglutination inhibition and microneutralisation assays were used to detect specific antibodies to the viruses.
