In recovered COVID-19 patients, the state of mucosal immunity remains understudied. Cytological, functional, and metabolic characteristics of neutrophils and the interleukin status will help to correctly assess the need for immunorehabilitation measures. The study objective is to assess the state of mucosal immunity after COVID-19.

This fact preceded the tragic earthquake on April 6, 2009, which led to large casualties in the Italian city of L'Aquila. This conclusion was obtained based on an analysis of the statistics of the critical frequency of the ionosphere.

Objects and structures made of organic glass require protection from damage caused by external factors. Light, humidity, temperature, dust pollution and, undoubtedly, microorganisms lead to the deterioration of optical and mechanical properties. Polysiloxane-based protective coatings, consisting of silicon-oxygen backbones linked together with organic side groups attached to the silicon atoms, are widely used.

Lichens often grow in microhabitats where they experience severe abiotic stresses. Some species respond to high UV radiation by synthesizing dark brown melanic pigments in the upper cortex. However, unlike the melanized structures of non-lichenized fungi, the morphology of the melanic layer in lichens remains unstudied.

2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene (TNT) is the most widely used nitroaromatic compound and is highly resistant to degradation. Most aerobic microorganisms reduce TNT to amino derivatives via formation of nitroso- and hydroxylamine intermediates. Although pathways of TNT degradation are well studied, proteomic analysis of TNT-degrading bacteria was done only for some individual Gram-negative strains.

New hybrid liposomes based on cationic amphiphiles with different structures of the head group (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), 3-hexadecyl-1-hydroxyethylimidazolium bromide (IA-16(OH)), 1-(butylcarbamoyl)oxyethyl-3-hexadecylimidazolium bromide (IAC 16(Bu)), and hexadecylmethylpyrrolidinium bromide (PR-16)) were developed for transdermal administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The different surfactant/lipid compositions were studied to obtain stable liposomes with high functionality. The hydrodynamic diameter of cationic liposomes was ∼110 nm.

In this review, we explore systemization of knowledge about the triggering effects of non-genetic factors in pathogenic mechanisms that contribute to the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Possible mechanisms involving environmental and individual factors in RA pathogenesis were analyzed, namely, infections, mental stress, sleep deprivation ecology, age, perinatal and gender factors, eating habits, obesity and smoking. The non-genetic factors modulate basic processes in the body with the impact of these factors being non-specific, but these common challenges may be decisive for advancement of the disease in the predisposed body at risk for RA.

The influence of magnetite nanoparticles, granular activated carbon (GAC), and biochar, as well as their combinations on the anaerobic digestion of chicken manure and the structure of microbial communities was studied. The addition of magnetite, GAC, and biochar increased the rate of methane production and the total methane yield. It has been observed that these additives stimulated anaerobic microorganisms to reduce the concentration of accumulated volatile organic acids.

Background: More than half of human protein-coding genes have an alternative transcription start site (TSS). We aimed to investigate the contribution of alternative TSSs to the acute-stress-induced transcriptome response in human tissue (skeletal muscle) using the cap analysis of gene expression approach. TSSs were examined at baseline and during recovery after acute stress (a cycling exercise).

The present work introduces self-assembled polystyrenesulfonate (PSS) molecules as soft nanocapsules for incorporation of Eu-Sm complexes by the solvent exchange procedure. The high levels of Eu- and Sm-luminescence of the complexes derives from the ligand-to-metal energy transfer, in turn, resulted from the complex formation of Euand Sm ions with the three recently synthesized cyclophanic 1,3-diketones. The structural features of the ligands are optimized for the high thermal sensitivity of Eu- luminescence in DMF solutions.

Supercooled transition metals are characterized by the absence of long-range order and the presence of a specific short-range order in the arrangement of atoms. So, the presence of shoulders and broadenings at the second maximum in the experimentally measured quantity-in the static structure factor()-is usually interpreted as a manifestation of the icosahedral (ideal or distorted) short-range order (ISRO-). Icosahedral short-range order is a structure with fivefold symmetry in the arrangement of atoms, which can lead to the possibility of achieving deep supercooling.

Background And Aims: Proctitis is the least extensive type of ulcerative colitis, for which rectal therapy is rarely studied and is underused. This study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and patient's preference of a novel formulation of budesonide suppository 4 mg, compared with a commercially available budesonide rectal foam 2 mg, for the treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative proctitis.
Methods: This was a randomised, double-blind, double-dummy, active-controlled trial.

Hallucinogenic drugs potently affect brain and behavior and have also recently emerged as potentially promising agents in pharmacotherapy. Complementing laboratory rodents, the zebrafish () is a powerful animal model organism for screening neuroactive drugs, including hallucinogens. Here, we test a battery of ten novel -benzyl-2-phenylethylamine (NBPEA) derivatives with the 2,4- and 3,4-dimethoxy substitutions in the phenethylamine moiety and the -OCH, -OCF, -F, -Cl, and -Br substitutions in the position of the phenyl ring of the -benzyl moiety, assessing their acute behavioral and neurochemical effects in the adult zebrafish.

Genomic and metabolomic studies of endolithic bacteria are essential for understanding their adaptations to extreme conditions of the rock environment and their contributions to mineralization and weathering processes. The endoliths of arid serpentine rocks are exposed to different environmental stresses, including desiccation and re-hydration, temperature fluctuations, oligotrophy, and high concentrations of heavy metals. Bacteria of the genus Rhodococcus commonly inhabit endolithic environments.
