The present work demonstrates the optimization of the ligand structure in the series of bis(phosphine oxide) and β-ketophosphine oxide representatives for efficient coordination of Tb and Eu ions with the formation of the complexes exhibiting high Tb- and Eu-centered luminescence. The analysis of the stoichiometry and structure of the lanthanide complexes obtained using the XRD method reveals the great impact of the bridging group nature between two phosphine oxide moieties on the coordination mode of the ligands with Tb and Eu ions. The bridging imido-group facilitates the deprotonation of the imido- bis(phosphine oxide) ligand followed by the formation of tris-complexes.

New coronavirus infection causing COVID-19, which was first reported in late 2019 in China, initiated severe social and economic crisis that affected the whole world. High frequency of the errors in replication of RNA viruses, zoonotic nature of transmission, and high transmissibility allowed betacoronaviruses to cause the third pandemic in the world since the beginning of 2003: SARS-CoV in 2003, MERS-CoV in 2012, and SARS-CoV-2 in 2019. The latest pandemic united scientific community and served as a powerful impetus in the study of biology of coronaviruses: new routes of virus penetration into the human cells were identified, features of the replication cycle were studied, and new functions of coronavirus proteins were elucidated.

The development of hypogravitational motor syndrome is an essential negative consequence of weightlessness for humans; an important role in the pathogenesis of this syndrome is played by changes in axons of the spinal tracts. Myelinated fibers and transcriptome of the spinal cord were studied in mice exposed to hypogravity during a 30-day flight on a biosatellite. Morphometric analysis of myelinated fibers of the spinal tracts showed a decrease in the thickness of the myelin sheath.

The Effect of α-Adrenoreceptors Blockade on the Isolated Rat Heart during the Formation of Sympathetic Innervation.

Bull Exp Biol Med

December 2022

Department of Normal Physiology, Kazan State Medical University, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.

We studied the effects of the α-adrenergic receptor antagonist yohimbine (10-10 M) on inotropy, chronotropy, and coronary flow in the Langendorff-isolated heart from 3- and 6-week-old rats. Yohimbine affected all the studied functional parameters of the isolated heart. The force of contraction of the left ventricular myocardium, HR, and coronary flow decreased at all studied concentrations of the antagonist.

A new triphenylphosphonium-conjugated amphipathic cationic peptide with improved cell-penetrating and ROS-targeting properties.

Curr Res Pharmacol Drug Discov

December 2022

Department of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacology, Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, Kazan Volga Region Federal University, 18 Kremlyovskaya St., 420008, Kazan, Russia.

We study for the first time whether triphenylphosphonium (TPP) moiety can improve cellular delivery and redox properties of amphipathic cationic peptides based on YRFK/YrFK cell-penetrating and cytoprotective motif. TPP moiety was found to increase reducing activity of both stereoisomeric peptides in solution and on electrode surface in association with TPP-mediated intramolecular interactions. Among TPP-conjugated peptides, newly synthesized TPP3-YrFK featured both increased antioxidant efficacy and proteolytic resistance.

The use of liquid waste as a feedstock for cultivation of microalgae can reduce water and nutrient costs and can also be used to treat wastewater with simultaneous production of biomass and valuable products. This study applied strategies to treat diluted anaerobic digester effluent (ADE) as a residue of biogas reactors with moderate (87 ± 0.6 mg L; 10% ADE) and elevated NH-N levels (175 ± 1.

Complexation of Oligo- and Polynucleotides with Methoxyphenyl-Functionalized Imidazolium Surfactants.

Pharmaceutics

December 2022

Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry, FRC Kazan Scientific Center, Russian Academy of Sciences, Arbuzov Str. 8, 420088 Kazan, Russia.

Article Synopsis
  • * Techniques like light scattering, electron microscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy were used to confirm the formation of nanosized lipoplexes (100-200 nm) via various mechanisms including electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions.
  • * The research found that the length of the surfactant's hydrocarbon tail and the type of nucleic acid significantly impact their interaction, with MPI-n/DNA complexes showing reduced cytotoxicity in cancer cells and effectiveness comparable to Lipofectamine 3000 for transfection.

The public health threat from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continues to intensify with emerging variants of concern (VOC) aiming to render COVID-19 vaccines/infection-induced antibodies redundant. The SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is responsible for receptor binding and infection of host cells making it a legitimate antibody target. Antibodies mostly target epitopes in the receptor binding domain (RBD).

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the treatment of anxiety disorder with Anvifen (aminophenylbutyric acid) in a short (21 days) and prolonged (60 days) course of treatment.

Material And Methods: Patients were randomly divided into two groups: a short course (21 days) of treatment with Anvifen (group 1) and a prolonged course (60 days) of treatment with Avifen (group 2). In each group, patients were divided into age subgroups: 20-40 years old (1a - =30, mean age 32 [21; 39], 2a - =30, mean age 33 [23; 38] years) and 41-70 years (1b - =30, mean age 62 [51; 67] years; 2b - =30, mean age 60 [51; 68] years).

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a heterogeneous disease where herpesvirus infection and genetic predisposition are identified as the most consistent risk factors. Serum and blood samples were collected from 151 MS and 70 controls and used to analyze circulating antibodies for, and DNA of, Epstein Barr virus (EBV), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), human herpes virus 6 (HHV6), and varicella zoster virus (VZV). The frequency of selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in MS and controls were studied.
