The solution behavior and physicochemical characteristics of polymer-colloid complexes based on cationic imidazolium amphiphile with a dodecyl tail (IA-12) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) or DNA decamer (oligonucleotide) were evaluated using tensiometry, conductometry, dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering and fluorescent spectroscopy and microscopy. It has been established that PAA addition to the surfactant system resulted in a ca. 200-fold decrease in the aggregation threshold of IA-12, with the hydrodynamic diameter of complexes ranging within 100-150 nm.

Synthesis and Functional Characterization of 2-(2,5-Dimethoxyphenyl)--(2-fluorobenzyl)ethanamine (25H-NBF) Positional Isomers.

ACS Chem Neurosci

May 2021

Laboratory of Toxicology, Department of Bioanalysis, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ghent University, Campus Heymans, Ottergemsesteenweg 460, B-9000 Ghent, Belgium.

Serotonergic psychedelics, substances exerting their pharmacological action through activation of the serotonin 2A receptor (5-HTR), have continuously comprised a substantial fraction of the over 1000 reported New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) so far. Within this category, -benzyl derived phenethylamines, such as NBOMes and NBFs, have shown to be of particular relevance. As these substances remain incompletely characterized, this study aimed at synthesizing positional isomers of 25H-NBF, with two methoxy groups placed on different positions of the phenyl group of the phenethylamine moiety.

One of the major problems observed in veterinary practice is articular cartilage injuries in animals. In terms of agriculture, it leads to their culling from the herd, even if they are highly productive animals. With companion animals, owners usually have to decide between euthanasia or long-term sometimes lifelong treatment of the injury by a veterinarian.

Objective: To study a role of central sensitization (CS) in patients with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS) after decompression of the lumbar and/or sacral roots.

Material And Methods: The study included three groups of patients: 1) early FBSS (e-FBSS, =23), pain after surgery decreased, but continued to significantly bother the patient, or recurred in the first 6 months after surgery; 2) middle FBSS (m-FBSS, =42), pain after surgery completely stopped, but recurred within 6-12 months; 3) late FBSS (l-FBSS, =31), if pain relapse occurred more than 12 months later. Neurological status assessment, study of muscle trigger zones (MTZ), postoperative scar trigger zones (TZS), pain assessment according to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), CS assessment according to the Russian version of the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) were performed.

Department of Microbiology, Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, 420008 Kazan, Russia.

Microalgae are considered a potential source of valuable compounds for multiple purposes and are potential agents for bioremediation of aquatic environments contaminated with different pollutants. This work evaluates the use of agricultural waste, unsterilized and anaerobically digested, to produce biomass from a strain of . Furthermore, the presence of bacteria in these wastes was investigated based on the bacterial 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

The surface deposition of luminescent anionic cluster complex [{ReS}(OH)] advantages to the design and synthesis of composite luminescent silica nanoparticles (SNs) for intracellular imaging and sensing, while the encapsulation of the cluster units into SNs lacks for efficient luminescence. The deposition of the Re clusters resulted from their assembly at the silica surface functionalized by amino-groups provides the synthetic route for the composite SNs with bright cluster-centered luminescence invariable in pH range from 4.0 to 12.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers found that when MSI2 is removed, it lowers the levels of another protein called EGFR, which is important for cancer cell growth.
  • * Depleting MSI2 makes NSCLC cells, especially those with changes in EGFR, less able to grow and makes treatments that target EGFR more effective.

is an emerging pathogen with increasing clinical importance due to its intrinsic resistance to several classes of antibiotics. The chromosomally encoded drug efflux pumps contribute to antibiotic resistance and represent a major challenge for the treatment of bacterial infections. The ABC-type efflux pump MacAB was previously linked to macrolide resistance in and serovar Typhimurium.

Within the framework of the quantum mechanical approach, the available experimental data are analyzed to identify the electronic structure of the multiferroic FeCrO. The relative values of the key contributions to the parameters of even and odd crystal fields acting on the 3electrons of the Feion are determined. Data on local lattice distortions are systematized.

Natural variation in plant telomere length is associated with flowering time.

Plant Cell

May 2021

Department of Biology, Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, New York University, New York 10003, NY, USA.

Telomeres are highly repetitive DNA sequences found at the ends of chromosomes that protect the chromosomes from deterioration duringcell division. Here, using whole-genome re-sequencing and terminal restriction fragment assays, we found substantial natural intraspecific variation in telomere length in Arabidopsis thaliana, rice (Oryza sativa), and maize (Zea mays). Genome-wide association study (GWAS) mapping in A.

A diverse series of 43 novel "soft antimicrobials" based on quaternary ammonium pyridoxine derivatives which include six-membered acetals and ketals of pyridoxine bound via cleavable linker moieties (amide, ester) with a fragment of fatty carboxylic acid was designed. Nine compounds exhibited in vitro promising antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains with MIC values comparable with reference antiseptics miramistin, benzalkonium chloride and chlorohexidine. On various clinical isolates, the lead compounds 6i and 12a exhibited antibacterial activity comparable with that of benzalkonium chloride while higher than that of miramistin.

We tested for fire-induced (5-6 years post-fire) changes in the structure and functioning of the soil food web along a 3000-km north-south transect across European Russia, spanning all major forest types in the northern hemisphere outside the tropics. The total biomass of the detrital food web, including microbes and invertebrates, was not affected by fire. However, fire reduced the biomass of microfauna and mites, but had no impact on mesofauna or macrofauna.
