In this work, within the framework of a self-consistent model of arc discharge, a simulation of plasma parameters in a mixture of argon and methane was carried out, taking into account the evaporation of the electrode material in the case of a refractory and non-refractory cathode. It is shown that in the case of a refractory tungsten cathode, almost the same methane conversion rate is observed, leading to similar values in the density of the main methane conversion products (C, C, H) at different values of the discharge current density. However, with an increase in the current density, the evaporation rate of copper atoms from the anode increases, and a jump in the - characteristic is observed, caused by a change in the plasma-forming ion.

Terminal Schwann cells (TSCs) are capable of regulating acetylcholine (ACh) release at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ). We have identified GABA as a gliotransmitter at mouse NMJs. When ACh activates α7 nicotinic ACh receptor (nAChRs) on TSCs, GABA is released and activates GABA receptors on the nerve terminal that subsequently reduce ACh release.

Background: Data on the genetic factors contributing to inter-individual variability in muscle fiber size are limited. Recent research has demonstrated that mice lacking the Arkadia (RNF111) N-terminal-like PKA signaling regulator 2N (; also known as ) gene exhibit reduced muscle fiber size, contraction force, and exercise capacity, along with defects in calcium handling within fast-twitch muscle fibers. However, the role of the gene in human muscle physiology, and particularly in athletic populations, remains poorly understood.

This study is devoted to creating a neural network technology for assessing metal accumulation in the body of a metropolis resident with short-term and long-term intake from anthropogenic sources. Direct assessment of metal retention in the human body is virtually impossible due to the many internal mechanisms that ensure the kinetics of metals and the wide variety of organs, tissues, cellular structures, and secretions that ensure their functional redistribution, transport, and cumulation. We have developed an intelligent multi-neural network model capable of calculating the content of metals in the human body based on data on their environmental content.

Effects of membrane cholesterol-targeting chemicals on skeletal muscle contractions evoked by direct and indirect stimulation.

J Muscle Res Cell Motil

December 2024

Laboratory of Biophysics of Synaptic Processes, Kazan Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, FRC Kazan Scientific Center of RAS, 2/31 Lobachevsky St, Kazan, 420111, Russia.

Article Synopsis
  • Cholesterol is essential for the plasma membrane and helps form lipid rafts, which play a crucial role in muscle contraction and nerve communication in skeletal muscle.
  • In experiments involving mouse diaphragm, lower concentrations of cholesterol-depleting agents did not significantly impact muscle contractions, but higher concentration (10 mM) notably weakened the contraction response during nerve stimulation.
  • The study suggests that severe cholesterol depletion primarily disrupts neuromuscular communication rather than affecting the contractility of muscle fibers themselves.

The work presents core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) built from the novel Cu(I) complexes with cyclic PN-ligands (1,5-diaza-3,7-diphosphacyclooctanes) that can visualize their entry into cancer and normal cells using a luminescent signal and treat cells by self-enhancing generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Variation of P- and N-substituents in the series of PN-ligands allows structure optimization of the Cu(I) complexes for the formation of the luminescent NPs with high chemical stability. The non-covalent modification of the NPs with triblock copolymer F-127 provides their high colloidal stability, followed by efficient cell internalization of the NPs visualized by their blue (⁓450 nm) luminescence.

Sodium pectate derivatives with 25% replacement of sodium ions with nickel ions were obtained by carbonization to temperatures of 280, 550, and 800 °C, under special protocols in an inert atmosphere by carbonization to temperatures of 280, 550, and 800 °C. The 25% substitution is the upper limit of substitution of sodium for nickel ions, above which the complexes are no longer soluble in water. It was established that the sample carburized to 550 °C is the most effective active element in the hydrogen-oxidation reaction, while the sample carbonized up to 800 °C was the most effective in the oxygen-reduction reaction.

The regulation of the anthropogenic load on waterbodies is carried out based on water quality standards that are determined using the threshold values of hydrochemical indicators. These applied standards should be defined both geographically and differentially, taking into account the regional specifics of the formation of surface water compositions. However, there is currently no unified approach to defining these regional standards.

In this work, within the framework of a unified model for the discharge gap and electrodes, a comparative numerical analysis was carried out on the effect of evaporation of graphite anode material on the characteristics of the arc discharge in helium and argon. The effect of changing the plasma-forming ion, in which the ion of evaporated atomic carbon becomes the dominant ion, is demonstrated. For an arc discharge in helium, this effect is accompanied by a jump-like change in the dependence of the current density on voltage (CVC), and smoothly for a discharge in argon.

A number of nickel complexes of sodium pectate with varied Ni content have been synthesized and characterized. The presence of the proton conductivity, the possibility of the formation of a dense spatial network of transition metals in these coordination biopolymers, and the immobilization of transition ions in the catalytic sites of this class of compounds make them promising for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells. It has been established that the catalytic system composed of a coordination biopolymer with 20% substitution of sodium ions for divalent nickel ions, Ni (20%)-NaPG, is the leading catalyst in the series of 5, 15, 20, 25, 35% substituted pectates.
