Background: Recent research has demonstrated that Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) risk is influenced by a number of common polymorphisms, including MC4R rs17782313, PPARG rs1801282, and TCF7L2 rs7903146. Knowledge of the association between these single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and body weight changes in different forms of prediabetes treatment is still limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of polymorphisms within the MC4R, PPARG, and TCF7L2 genes on the risk of carbohydrate metabolism disorders and body composition changes in overweight or obese patients with early carbohydrate metabolism disorders.

The gene therapy has been successful in treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI) in several animal models, although it still remains unavailable for clinical practice. Surprisingly, regardless the fact that multiple reports showed motor recovery with gene therapy, little is known about molecular and cellular changes in the post-traumatic spinal cord following viral vector- or cell-mediated gene therapy. In this study we evaluated the therapeutic efficacy and changes in spinal cord after treatment with the genes encoding vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), angiogenin (ANG), and neuronal cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) applied using both approaches.

RAS proteins function as molecular switches that transmit signals from cell surface receptors into specific cellular responses via activation of defined signaling pathways (Fang, 2015). Aim: To identify oropharyngeal Streptococcus species and to analyze the genetic determinants of antibiotic resistance in patients with asthma and in those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Material And Methods: An experimental diagnostic Streptopol+ (Lytech Co. LTD) panel based on a multiplex real-time PCR was applied to investigate the representation of antimicrobial resistance genes (mef and ermB) and the species composition of streptococci isolated from oropharyngeal swab samples from 89 patients with stable COPD and from 51 patients with asthma.

Bacterial ribonucleases (RNases) are considered to be potential anticancer agents. One of most important determinants of RNase cytotoxicity is the net charge of the molecule. In this work a set of mutants of the RNase from Streptomyces aureofaciens (RNase Sa), differing in the net charge of the protein molecules (from -7 to +6) and localization of additional positive charge at the N- or C-terminus of the molecule is used to study inhibition of cell growth.

The cytotoxic effects of Bacillus intermedius RNase (binase) towards ovarian cancer cells (SKOV3 and OVCAR5) were studied in comparison to normal ovarian epithelial cells (HOSE1 and HOSE2). Binase decreased viability and induced the selective apoptosis of ovarian cancer cells. The apoptosis rate was 50% in SKOV3 and 48% in OVCAR5 cells after 24 h of binase treatment (50 μg/ml).
