Clinical questions in the Japanese Urological Association's 2024 clinical practice guidelines for urethral strictures.

Transurethral procedures such as direct vision internal urethrotomy and urethral dilation have been the traditional treatments for urethral strictures. However, transurethral procedures are associated with high recurrence rates, resulting in many uncured cases and prompting major international urological societies to recommend urethroplasty as the standard treatment owing to its high success rate. In contrast, many Japanese general urologists have little doubts about treating urethral strictures with transurethral treatment.

Conclusiveness of Cochrane Reviews on Nursing Interventions for Patients with Cancer: A Systematic Analysis.

Background: This study aimed to assess the conclusiveness of Cochrane Reviews (CRs) in oncology nursing.

Methods: We searched systematically for all CRs published in the Cochrane Library in the oncology nursing field between January 2014 and April 2023. We analyzed the difference between conclusive and inconclusive outcomes using the χ and Mann-Whitney -tests and identified 430 articles.

Implicit attitudes towards dementia after education: Preliminary trial results from Japan.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and validity of measuring implicit attitudes towards dementia in adults and older adults and evaluate the impact of dementia-friendly education using virtual reality (VR) on implicit attitudes.

Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of data from a randomised controlled trial. Community members in Tokyo aged 20-90 years participated in dementia-friendly education with or without VR.

Conclusiveness of the Cochrane Reviews in Family Nursing: A Meta-research Study.

This study established the clinical conclusiveness of Cochrane reviews (CRs) in family nursing. We extracted relevant characteristics of CRs to determine the methods of obtaining high-level evidence for family nursing. We performed a systematic search of all CRs on family nursing published in the Cochrane Library between January 2014 and April 2023.

The Development and Psychometric Testing of the Scale of Cultural Sensitivity of Health Care Professionals in Japan.

Introduction: The development of cultural sensitivity is essential for health care professionals but there are few tools to measure this quality in Japan. The purpose of this study was to develop a scale of cultural sensitivity for Japanese health care professionals and examine its reliability and validity.

Method: A draft scale was created through conceptual analysis and a questionnaire was completed by 515 health care professionals and 1,322 college students.

Investigation of the possibility of using an augmented reality-based endotracheal aspiration simulation tool for nursing education.

Aim: We developed an augmented reality technology-based endotracheal aspiration simulation tool (the AR tool) consisting of three modes: a mode for nursing students to learn endotracheal aspiration by themselves (learning mode); a mode for repeated practice (practice mode); and a mode for confirmation testing (test mode). This study aimed to compare the learning outcomes of the AR tool with traditional training mannequins and identify potential uses and improvements of the AR tool.

Methods: We invited students, and faculty members from the three universities who agreed to cooperate in conducting this study.

The Japanese Urological Association's guidelines for the treatment of renal trauma were published in 2016. In conjunction with its revision, herein, we present the new guidelines for overall urotrauma. Its purpose is to provide standard diagnostic and treatment recommendations for urotrauma, including iatrogenic trauma, to preserve organ function and minimize complications and fatality.

We explored risk indicators likely to result in older adults needing certified long-term care in Japan and ascertained whether this relationship forms a U-shaped link. We analyzed a community-based cohort of residents in Kitanagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Participants were 3718 individuals aged 65 years and above who underwent health examinations between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic influenced nursing students' academic experience and career choices? A qualitative descriptive analysis.

COVID-19 control measures influenced education and training environments and profoundly impacted nursing students' career prospects and academic lives. This study intends to elucidate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing students' academic experience and career choices. A qualitative descriptive study was conducted at a 4-year university in Japan, using semi-structured interviews with 14 nursing students.

[Current status of collaboration with public health services by occupational health nurses, and related factors].

Objectives: The Japanese government launched a project to facilitate collaboration between public health services and occupational health services with the aim of promoting overall health and wellbeing. However, collaboration at the practitioner level, including professionals who develop health support activities, has not yet been achieved. This study was conducted to clarify the actual state of collaboration between public health services and occupational health nurses as well as the factors related to their experiences with such collaboration.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of nursing students in Japan: a cross-sectional study.

Background: The effect of the prolonged coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on the mental health of nursing students is unclear. This study assesses the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and insomnia among nursing students in Japan during the pandemic and determines the risk factors associated with such symptoms.

Methods: An online survey-based cross-sectional study was conducted from August 16 to October 16, 2021.

[Childcare and housework performed by fathers with infants and related factors].

Objective　The aim of this study was to identify the status regarding childcare and housework performed by fathers with infants (one and two years old, first child), as well as related factors.Method　An online survey of fathers with infants across Japan was administered in October 2020. The survey items encompassed basic attributes, work conditions, and child-rearing information, as well as items from the Quality of Marriage Index (QMI), Work-Family Conflict Scale (WFCS), and a Japanese version of the K6 screening tool.

Association Between Access to Specialists and History of Cellulitis Among Patients with Lymphedema: Secondary Analysis Using the National LIMPRINT Database.

Cellulitis is frequently encountered in patients with lymphedema despite existing prevention protocols. To resolve this issue, social aspects surrounding patients, such as communication with patients and professionals, are necessary to consider new approaches. This study aimed to clarify the association between the history of cellulitis in patients with lymphedema and access to specialists after adjustment for relevant confounding factors.

Influence of Striving for Work-Life Balance and Sense of Coherence on Intention to Leave Among Nurses: A 6-Month Prospective Survey.

The increase in the elderly population in need of healthcare services has led to a serious shortage in the nursing workforce. To retain a large nursing workforce, a strong work-life balance among nurses is needed along with a healthy work environment. This prospective study investigates the influence of work-life balance and sense of coherence on intention to leave among hospital nurses.

A change in temporal muscle thickness is correlated with past energy adequacy in bedridden older adults: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Energy inadequacy has a great impact on health outcomes in older adult patients; however, it is difficult to evaluate energy adequacy in these patients, especially in home-care settings. We recently reported that temporal muscle thickness can be an indicator of nutritional status. The present study aims to examine whether a change in temporal muscle thickness is directly correlated with energy adequacy and, if so, to determine the cutoff value of a change in temporal muscle thickness to detect energy inadequacy.

A causal model on assertiveness, stress coping, and workplace environment: Factors affecting novice nurses' burnout.

Aim: This study aimed to develop and test a causal model focused on assertiveness, stress coping, and workplace environment as factors affecting burnout among novice nurses.

Design: Cross-sectional study was conducted with novice nurses of 17 hospitals.

Methods: The Novice Nurse Assertiveness Scale and the Japanese version of Maslach Burnout Inventory.

Proposal for Reforming Prehospital Response to Chemical Terrorism Disasters in Japan: Going Back to the Basics of Saving the Lives of the Injured by Securing the Safety of the Rescue Team.

Introduction: Having experienced the Tokyo subway sarin attack in 1995, Japan has established extremely strict rules on handling injured victims before they are sent to a hospital. As a result, it takes a long time before rescue actions are taken. This report aims to propose a reform to change the system that focuses on saving lives.

Carbohydrate intake during early pregnancy is inversely associated with abnormal glucose challenge test results in Japanese pregnant women.

Background: In East Asian countries, which have a high prevalence of underweight individuals, there is little information about the association between dietary factors and abnormal glucose tolerance during pregnancy. We examined the association between carbohydrate intake and moderately abnormal glucose tolerance in Japanese pregnant women.

Methods: We conducted a prospective study on 325 Japanese pregnant women without a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus prior to pregnancy.
