Introduction: Hip fracture is very common in advanced ages, and it is very likely that this condition is accompanied by nutritional deficiencies. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of prognostic nutritional index (PNI) on postoperative mortality in geriatric patients who underwent hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fracture.
Materials And Methods: Geriatric patients (aged ≥ 70 years) who underwent hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fracture were prospectively recruited.
Tumor budding (TB) is a powerful prognostic factor in colorectal cancer (CRC). An internationally standardized method for its assessment (International Tumor Budding Consensus Conference [ITBCC] method) has been adopted by most CRC pathology protocols. This method requires that TB counts are reported by field area (0.

Background This study aimed to analyze acid-base imbalance by assessing the arterial blood gas (ABG) samples of the medical and surgical intensive care unit (ICU) patients by the Stewart approach and demonstrate the advantages of this method in delineating the acid-base status in cases where Henderson-Hasselbalch, anion gap, and base excess cannot optimally depict the imbalance and create recognition in the clinicians in this regard. Methodology Adult (i.e.

Objective: The liver is a critical organ at risk during right breast radiotherapy (RT). Liver function tests (LFTs) such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) serve as biochemical markers for hepatobiliary damage. In this multicenter cross-sectional study, the effects of liver dose-volume on changes in LFTs pre- and post-RT in patients treated for right breast cancer were evaluated.

Introduction The treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies in osteogenesis imperfecta aims to provide the maximum possible function by preventing bone fractures and progressive deformities. Despite the development of implants used in the surgical treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta, there is no consensus on the most appropriate method for the correction of skeletal deformities. The aim of this study was to compare telescopic and non-telescopic implants in terms of postoperative complications.

Introduction: Haemoglobin transfusion thresholds have been used in the intensive care unit (ICU) to guide red blood cell transfusion (RBCT) decisions. Recent research has also focused on physiological indicators of tissue oxygenation as trigger points for blood transfusion. This study aims to assess the oxygen extraction rate (OER) as a critical indicator of the oxygen delivery-consumption balance in tissues and investigate its potential as a reliable trigger for blood transfusion in ICU patients by analysing clinical outcomes.

Aims: Venous invasion (VI) is a powerful yet under-reported prognostic factor in colorectal cancer (CRC). Efforts to improve its detection have largely focused upon histological assessment, with less attention paid to tissue-sampling strategies. This study aimed to prospectively determine the number of tumour blocks required to optimise VI detection in CRC resections.

Background: Tumor size is an independent predictor of lymph node metastasis and survival in the endometrioid type endometrial adenocarcinoma (EC). However, some of the ECs tend to grow towards the cavity in the polypoid pattern, which can reach very large sizes. In this study, we aimed to analyze the association of growing in the polypoid pattern of the tumor with the proportion of lymph node metastasis and extrauterine tumor spread.

Diagnosis of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is often decided upon with typical pruritus supported by elevated serum bile acid levels. However, there is confusion regarding the absolute reference range for serum bile acid . To confirm the utility of Placental Strain Ratio (PSR) measurement as a marker for the diagnosis of ICP and to reveal the extent to which it is correlated with serum bile acid concentration.
